  1. I like TestCharacter idea too. Instead of having players downloading custom map every week especially when these download servers are horrible, we could have server 1 with only L4D2 vanilla campaign and server 2/3 will have new campaign added to it every month or so.

  2. server 2 is not working well. my bind for rebuy is not working and when I type !rebuy on the chat, it say "Not enough, you need 1082130432 points!"

  3. That is the speed when I'm not using VPN although the download rate is pretty much the same with using VPN. The ping, on the other hand, drop increase about 5-10ms. PIA server can supports around 100 Mbps, which is pretty good with their 40/yr price.

    Testmy.net is pretty much close to speedtest.net, but result is inconsistent.

    Then again, I think 50mbps is way more than I need considering not much stuff online can really utilize that speed. Unless you are one of those people who can download their 40GB game in less than 10 minutes, if so, then shame on you D:

    edit: PIA uses Tunneling Protocol so you need to install their software for Windoww. Router and Mac don't need a client software as the OS itself supports it.

    edit2: for secure VPN, PIA is pretty good and easy to setup, which is the one reason I pick it

  4. I have been using Verizon Fios with the package 50/25 for several years now. SpeedTest.net shows me a steady result, but I know the result is bias since ISP can shape the network to favor SpeedTest.net only.

    Recently, I have read an article regarding Verizon Fios ranking 8th on the Netflix (http://ispspeedindex.netflix.com/usa). It doesn't make any sense that I paid $100 USD every month for something I can barely stream video. Same thing with youtube, where some video will need to stall to buffer.

    So, I have been looking at VPN to see if such method can improve streaming and voila it did. I got privateinternetaccess.com and is it a huge improvement

    Now, Neflix takes me less than 5 sec to buffer the video. BLip.tv load instatly and no more buffering on youtube video

  5. I always thought the Close Quarters stuff in Battlefield 3 was really fun, but it seems like everyone just wants to fly a helicopter or snipe across a map that is a mile wide for 30 minutes.

    I like Battlefield but it gets bored after a few hour. Thus, I attached mines to a car and ram it to a tank making myself a kamikaze :D

  6. I don't remember Sub Zero ever being good in MK9. Always been Kabal/Cyrax and a few others.

    It has been ages I played MK9 ever since Injustice came out. But you are right.

  7. If there is one game from E3 that I have been hyping up its this game. I'm upset that it got delayed but I'm sure it will be beneficial in the long run. Plus I have yet to play a Tom Clancy game and be disappointing. I have some high hopes for this game.

    I am looking forward to Evolve more than this, but this game looks pretty good assuming it doesn't have those boring grinding moments exist in many MMO games. Like kill 300 players to unlock the next shotgun or pay $5

  8. really? I thought it is obvious that the salary distribution is not linear but increase exponentially.

    Second, I am going off topic, but ideal wealth distribution will never work. Think about it, if people whose highest education level is high school vs a college graduates both side get jobs and their salaries are all within a small range, then the economy will be all mess up. The reason why a lot of products in the market is cheap is because more than 40% of workers in america are paid minimal-wages. Not that I am against the idea of helping the poor but in reality, this will never work.

    Increasing minimal-wage will only lead to an increase the price of product or they would look into other countries to import their goods.

    He said they want to switch from that modem combo to ... [/insert decision of the topic] :)

    correct me of I'm wrong, you can connect a switch to a modem and from switch to multiple PC's (I know you can connect 1 PC directly) then each station will issue its own IP and auto configure the network. However they need to connect an additional wireless router to the switch or wireless transmitter (again it depends upon conclusion of the topic), for devises that can't fly on its own (iPads of some sort).

    So for them modem>router>switch>network

    Again it's mine non-professional suggestion.

    oop, I didn't know lol.

    I see what you meant. If you want wireless connection to your setup, the follow will be best depending if the "new" modem you want to switch is a combo or not
    >if modem is a combo (expensive)
    [modem/router combo]>==<[switch]>==<[PC1, PC2, ...]
    \\>==<[wireless router / Access point]]
    this allows better data flow and avoid any device from taking up the bandwidth because the switch manages all the data flow. the best setup is to have all the device on the same level of hierarchy so that the bandwidth is equally distributed assuming your wireless connection is often busy like 1 laptop plays game while another device watches youtube and etc. This setup uses 2 router so it is on the pricey side, but great for having multiple access point in your house for greater coverage or freedom to move your access point around your house. I have this setup and use my old router to convert into an access point for wireless only.
    > if modem is not a combo
    [modem]>==<[wireless router]>==<[switch]>==<[PC1, PC2, ...]

    which what cat mentioned is good too.

  10.

    Yeah but I am assuming he wants them to be able to be using data at anyone given time and from what I know you can't do that without a router in the line.

    It comes down to what device you have.

    edit: She was mentioning about using her own router/modem combo. So, I was referring to that setup

    Cisco is the industry standard for 5+ wired connection. I have tested several switches and routers in the past and Ubiquiti comes close to second having the best throughput, first being Cisco. With that said, Cisco is expensive and they never release new firmware.

    Ubiquiti is a great alternative for switches and router for having a great industry standard UI plus a compelling price. Even their home products have industry networking feature (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1EA0TX6677)

    With the faster internet we want to go from the modem, to a router (I guess it's required), then to a 15 port switch

    Can't you connect the switch directly to the modem instead of the router. Using your setup, if one of your computer from the switch is communicating with a computer like a printer or shared drive connecting to the router or one of the computer connecting to the router uses the internet bandwidth heavily, you will be throttling the bandwidth. In addition, home router is not built for 5+ connection. Router is not a 1 to 1 throughput so there will be an additional delay. And no, router is not required for switch setup.

    That second part is the part I'm trying to figure out. The modem we have right now is a modem/router combo. So I can't test connecting a modem directly to the switch. But now I'm getting conflicting reports from this topic. :D

    You don't need to change anything from the modem. For router connecting to the modem/router combo, you need to disable the DHCP, set the gateway to a different ip, and etc. For switch, it is plug and work for most.
