  1. I came across a Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop recently in a garbage dumpster at my workplace. It turns on just fine but then this pops up when I try and proceed....

I have tried repeated spamming the f12 and f8 keys upon start up but when I spam the f8 key, I get some beeping after the screen and then it returns to the normal Operating System Not Found crap....

Anyone have any ideas what I might be able to do?

  2. Sky,

Well then, kudos to you for thinking of them all, and even more kudos if they are working flawlessly

I guess I shouldn't have said "this plugin." What I should have said was "this kind of plugin."

I just don't like the idea of being forced back.

And yes, all of those I stated have happened to me on a server, but not just once or twice, so my general consensus would be in disagreement, unless proven otherwise.

Didn't mean to try and make your plugin look like crap, I was simply stating my opinion on the matter. If I did do such a thing then allow me to apologize, because I'm sure plugins aren't easy things to make.

  3. I agree with night, its too much brute force.

I've seen this on other servers before, and it aggravates me when servers have it.

All a player has to do is retreat to the starting saferoom and people in the front will be warned and teleported back to the furthest back guy, and since survivors can't rope other survivors and bring them along, if someone decided to stay in the saferoom, its a done game, if admins are not on that is.

Same thing can happen in the front, If you are not rushing but are blocking spawns and one of your teammates actually decides to rush, it will teleport you along with them back when you weren't doing anything wrong.

And what about the points where the team feels it's a strategic rush and the plugin knows no better and forces you back right into the lion's den eh?

What if a jockey pulls a survivor so far forward the plugin told him not to rush and teleported him back. That is a strategic position an infected put him into, and the plugin to prevent rushing will initially save the survivors from losing a teammate and may allow them to win the game.

What if infected kept chain charging players back, which happens so much in Sacrifice map 2, and the front survivors get told not to rush, and get teleported back to the player being chain charged or brought back in general. It was not their fault they got pulled back, and they did nothing wrong; only a human would know this.

To me, this plugin has too many faults, no matter how you code it. It has to think like a human in order to know if someone is rushing for situations like those I have previously stated, and that is also why I prefer admins over this plugin to take care of business.

We may have faults as humans, but we would do a better job than this plugin could and with that thought, save the person writing the plugin the trouble of making it so sophisticated.

  4.

I guess this is the same with the hunter's ability to pounce from invisible walls. Both techniques are features not planned while VALVe code the Source engine even bunny hopping is possible in GoldSrc, HL1, CS 1.6.

Also both "exploits" requires skills to perform them correctly... I am ok with bunny hopping for speed increase but remember, it is impossible to keep the momentum for more than a few seconds unless a script is being used, in that case the player who uses it should be perma banned (it is "hacking"). But if the map "cuts" are a problem I think the best solution is to block those paths with an in-game asset like in the begining and finale of hard rain

I do bunny hopping when I am bored as survivor but I do not use it for cut through the map like that...

What do you mean by keeping the momentum for more than a few seconds? as in bhoping more than a few seconds? because if that's what you meant; it is possible (without scripts)

Just quite hard, because the timing gets harder and harder as you change heights from the landscape. But if you use some sort of outside help like a script, that is hacking so no, you can't use those.

As for the hunters from invisible walls, I'd say lets drop it here and let TestCharacter surf the forums instead of asking if its legal here or not, because it has already been discussed.

And if we go into detail here, it will get closed like the last one after a while, also in which both strayed from the original topic if I may say.

  5. Just a suggestion. How about making it so that only withes purchased after dangerous witches is enabled become dangerous and those purchased before are not dangerous. This would eliminate a lot of the problem with announcing "buy witches now and then I will buy up the dangerous option". It personally doesn't bother me, but if its a big issue for enough people I guess we should "fix" it, get rid of it, or just leave it alone. A team will announce when they are buying a tank, upping a spitter limit, buy-up unannounced tank, buy witches on respawn cause they are gonna defib, spit on my charge, chain charge a smoked person back to the saferoom. These are verbally stated strategies that maximize points for the infected teams and I consider the dangerous witch announcement just another one, but to tell a team they can't talk about a strategy among themselves is a little unfair. Just to be clear and not appear self serving. I rarely buy witches of any kind myself.

Not sure this can be done, because in order to change any witch to be dangerous, you must change console commands, and when you change these commands, all witches would be effected, regardless of witches already placed. I believe its an all or nothing choice here. Or so that is my knowledge of the console, that leads me to believe this, I could be wrong.

  6. If you take any part of a game out, the game will still be the same game, but it will be lacking something very important that the game mechanics work around, so essentially, each piece is the game. If you removed the witch, the survivors would no longer slow down at certain spots when a witch is about. This is used by Valve to strategically slow the survivors down, to make them think about avoiding or plan to try and kill them a certain way. If there were no witches, maps like Hard Rain 2 would have no purpose, also note it is witch heaven and there are also several comments made by the survivors about these witches. Each infected has their own strategic purpose.

But Valve didn't make these things impassible, and they can be killed if you are skillful enough, but not in Realism, but to counter for this change in style, they made the witch unable to break doors down, and now allow a survivor to startle her and rush behind a door to let his teammates do the dirty work.

This is all taking into account vanilla gameplay, 4v4 versus or 4 player coop campaign. Not the server where you can get explosive ammo out of thin air for each witch and just stumble her to death.

The same can be said about all the other infected but I'm too lazy to go into detail about each one.

This is also just a rant to keep this forum post towards the top so we can make sure the poll gets done. :D

  7. Yeah a big DDOS, someone meng banned last night, for cursing

But thats not mengs fault, he was enforcing the rules.

  8. ^

shotguns can 1 hit witch. i guess many will disagree with this idea, since it is "part" of the game.

I don't even want to begin a rage on you for this comment. It is not "part" of the game, it IS the game. There is even an achievement from Valve to CROWN the witch. Only way to do that is a shotgun, and Valve intended this. This can even be done with a pump shotgun, although very hard, it requires all pellets to hit the head of the witch. The only thing Jackie has done is change the distance and rate at which the witch gets agroed. And which I must say, makes crowning the witch almost impossible now, unless she has agro on someone else, you don't have time to reach her before she is already standing up rushing at you. Only way I have done it was to take an adrenaline and push her with an auto shotty, only to have ever killed her in 1 shot with it.

I remember the times where I could walk up with a pump shotgun and pop her in the head before she even stood up halfway, yes on this server.

  9. Would you stay if no one listened to your opinion simply because you were "different" in some way?

Would you stay if people kept ridiculing you over something that was done ages ago? People can't change in this world am I right?

Would you stay if people couldn't let go of the past, pretending this is high school and kept bringing up all the wrong committed and ignoring anything good done in the future?

Would you stay if no one would realize the good you do because all they can remember is the bad, when that bad is no longer even present?

Would you stay if just for being present, people would make jokes or comment bad things about you, when you have said nothing at all?

Would you stay if this was your friend that was being picked at, or would you speak up and try and fix the situation, like I have?

  10.

I've asked and asked and asked for fireproof hordes to be purchased for a greater cost than normal hordes and it seems Jackie is against it, even though he hasn't actually stated it.

    is that even possible?

I wouldn't doubt it can be possible but it would involve spawning the same zombie over and over since the only fireproof zombies are those hazmat zombies, which instead of just using the console command z_spawn mob, would probably have to do something else

  11. I like Jackie's Idea. Limit the fireworks to maybe 4 or 5, and then the survivors can buy 2 extra firework crates say for 10 extra points up to 3 or 4 increases, maybe a max of 10-12 fireworks per round?

Kinda like the infected max limits

  12. The amount of points you get per pounce is PounceDamage/2. So if you get a 25 damage pounce, you get 12.5 buy points and then whatever extra points you can scoop up from dealing actual damage to the survivors. But recently, things have been altered as Static said and now you can only get a max of 6.2 buy points on a downed survivor, that is (PounceDamage/2)/2. Standing survivors still yield a 12.5 gain.

Not only this but when I say 25 Damage Pounce, I mean that as soon as the hunter touches the survivor, and begins his attack, 25 points of damage is done to the survivor, instantly. That's a lot of damage considering the survivors only have 100 health each, and they lose 1/4th of it on contact, let alone any more damage they sustain from his normal attack.

To get a 25 point pounce, like my video shows you have to be rather far from the survivors, and this is the max you get, any distance over a minimum 25 will still give only 25 damage.

And you can get a low of 1 damage pounce, if you are point blank to the survivor and jump them.

The further the distance the more damage, up to 25, and points, up to 12.5, that you can get.

  13. Sometimes, there are points in a map where there are several people who have tanks and tanks begin to get backed up into queue.

I sometimes myself, being in the queue, more often than naught, feel like I could have contributed better to the team than to have bought a tank and wait for the queue.

Although tanks are indeed a game changer, I was wondering if you have placed a tank into the queue that you could get your 50 points back and drop out of the queue, kind of like selling your tank before actually using it, or maybe where the buy tank option is, change to something like "De-queue Tank (refund 50 points)." Not sure if it would be possible to tell who has bought a tank and is in queue instead of someone who is actually a tank, although I won't doubt the power of coding because it can do some cool things.

Just a suggestion, because sometimes I buy a tank, go into queue and other people are like, we need the tank limit increased. I'm like, dang I could have helped there instead of being the 2nd or 3rd tank in queue.

  14. Gary, you may have been playing 2+ years on the server but I always notice you seem to quit often before the finale, so is your argument even valid here?

But the topic has been answered so my argument down here isn't valid either.
