  1. since my last login to this forum and the L4D2 server. Is the l4d2 server still alive and full of joy?

    So, hi!

Probably nobody remembers me, I used to be a hunter-25 wannabe.

  2. Totally agree with it, he was rushing really bad.

I didn't wanted to make another thread, but this guy "deskord" was griefing (STEAM_1:0:77031343). He just jumped on purpose and died at the begining of No Mercy.

  3. Congrats lad! I'll be able to notice the difference in speed once my ISP stop being so packet-lossy.

I remember the headaches nginx gave me two years ago, every web software written in PHP used to only ship with the standard .htaccess that is apache-like webservers only... so I forget that .htaccess had any restriction to a certain folder and users were able to access known php scripts of the forum, specially those that had vulnerabilities like LFI/RFI.

So I hope this isn't the case!

About CloudFlare... yeah they had a big issue but it was only once (I hope, lol)
Many of you in the US won't notice any speed boost, but people outside the US can fetch cached images, scripts in the nearest CloudFlare's edges making the loading page time way shorter.

Also I wear this... so I've to advertise cloudflare everywhere! lol

  4. With that attitude you won't get any further. To keep up with the server costs, players donate and get a membership and one of it's features is the reserved slot.
Secondly, if you do not answer to the admin why you were that far ahead you will get kicked... specially if there's a tank and nobody is able to see the jockey that took you there. That's why admin asks first if you were taken by a jockey/charger/smoker but if you do not answer I think the admin assumes that you just rushed.

  5. The problem is that we have all played the standard maps 1000s of times, we know every spot, every strategy, etc.  It was long, but playing a new map one time is going to be confusing.  I think we need to keep playing it until we get better at it.  But we could pick other ones also, and if they seem better we can focus more on them.  I agree though, the pathing was a lot of fun.  I think we should just keep setting up nights to do these types of things, pathing, vip, customs.  As long as we get a server full of regulars these things can be fun and a change of pace.

I already downloaded the new campaign only to study it's hunting spots and most of the maps are a hunter's paradise! xD

And most of them has a lower ceiling so, ceiling pounces!

  6. There's a big difference between high ping and packet loss. High latency doesn't affect other players at all, it affects only you because you see every event on the server with a delay of half a second or less depending on your latency at a given moment.
However, when your connection between the two points ( you <---> server ) suffers from packet loss specially on your upstream, every player on the server sees you "warping" around and it's really annoying for the survivors when you are a tank, maybe that was the reason for the kick, but isn't fully justified still.
For some reason yesterday the hosting company where GC's servers are hosted started to apply *aggressive* packet throttling to a few countries outside the US and for me it was unplayable... everyone saw me really really laggy and it was just too choppy to play, it was a really BIG packet loss issue and wasn't high latency (my latency was the average for me... 210~280).

  7. England, which means I will be cheering for Brazil again - probably by the second round...

Oh, and for anyone playing against Argentina or the Germans!

    Or those evil Belgians...

That hurts, I am Argentinian and my surname is german :corkysm9:

  8.

Yes, even that useless spitter spitting openly with no survivors being pin down and giving them a tickle bath because who knows, they might just stay there long enough to make a difference.

That's another thing I do, when I see a spitter spitting too late I tend to pounce the survivor that is on the spit and pin him, even though it's a 1 pt pounce.

  9. Hot-spot Shield is a popular VPN service that has proxies in almost every country. I guess you have an extension/plugin in your browser that in some way tries to spy on your navigation habits and/or steal your browser's cookies (that's what the forum and every web application uses to identify you).

What browser do you use to visit the forums?

  10. Not about me? In general, no.

    But by this description...

All I see is the same class (hunter or boomer) being used over and over from certain individuals.

So they boom till they get a tank or they hunt three times and get a tank.

I can guess that I am included into this post, and therefore, gave my side of the story.

And I didn't use only "I" in my post, I used the word "we" as in, we that do this.

Based on "used over and over from certain individuals" and Clony's "we"... I guess I am included in those individuals too.

As you may have noticed everyone on this server does rocket a boomer over and over again in almost every map of the game. It doesn't take too much time to get used to the way the high jump works, and since everyone does it the survivors should be always watching the sky, specially in Dark Carnival. It is what I do, if any of the high pouncers are on the other team I watch the sky constantly skeeting any hunter and boomer if I can.

If the survivors are not watching the sky, hunters and boomers doesn't have to do any effort whatsoever to pounce or puke on all the survivors.

It is not too hard to stop a hunter from pouncing around the invisible/visible walls.

Want to make it easier to skeet hunters? Use AWP.

In my case, hunter isn't my primary class. You may think that most of us are the only hunters on the sky but that isn't true, you can't tell who is who unless you kill the hunter but you never see us as Boomers, Chargers, Jockeys or even Spitters because they're not that much exposed as the hunter when it is flying around the walls.

    Based on this stats.... http://www.gamrs.co/l4d/stats/player.php?steamid=STEAM_1:1:18444008

In my case, my favorite class is the Charger with 7,243 spawns followed by the hunter with 6,431 spawns (and 2,698 successful pounces that's a 41% hit rate).

You can check the other "boomer/hunter only" players and you will see that those players doesn't always stick with one class the entire campaign.

  11. I used to do that the first week I've played in this server or so that also happens to be my first versus server I have played on.
What I learned since then is that what makes new players tank skip isn't the lack of confidence, but instead is the players on the same team saying "oh my WHO WAS THAT TANK, WOW..." or something similar making fun or making them know the shortcoming of the player that was tank.

  12. I had a couple ideas...

    1) admin vs member night - maybe we can set a day and time soon, to have admins vs members? We could use Mumble to communicate, make teams and rotate people in and out. We could turn off all talk for admins.

    2) member team night - again set a specific night and time, join in mumble maybe and choose up teams, or assign people to a team.

There aren't that many admins to make a 10vs10 game, also, you're peanut so your fellow admins will leave you behind!

About the member "team" night... isn't that actually "stacking"? :P

There used to be nights that were packed with members and regulars, you had to wait for someone to leave in order to join... those days are becoming less and less frequent, maybe because GC has two servers and sometimes members doesn't really know where is the server with more members on it or just because most regulars are less interested in the game/server.

I think we should call the attention of those who doesn't play that often by doing a "well known GC regulars 'night'", so those really __long__ join time comes back

EDIT: I actually quoted an old post... silly me for not reading the pagination first LOL

  13. I believe in almost every game the maximum latency is 300ms, the L4D2 server has a limit of 300ms that's why I had to pay for a membership but the average latency is 230ms.
I wonder if the server is going to be back, I do not play other game than L4D2 recently

  14. So... isn't worth it yet? I know many of you are from the US and don't have high latency or lag but is latency an important factor in the game like in PvP?

I've 300~320 ms with the last GC Rust server IP, is it going to be back sometime?

  15. Still nothing happened to me, no warnings or kicks in all day. Maybe it's because when I am dead as survivor or infected I tend to use the free camera for see what's going on in a better perspective.
If you're watching a player and nothing more, the mouse movements in third or first person are client-side and is not being registered by the server so it may think you're idling, but in free-camera or even switching between player views gets registered by the server so it detects some activity.

  16. i find that insulting, and yes i am insulted.

You know what I find "insulting"? Your attitude even earlier to that campaign towards me and the team. We were losing then you say the team is terrible, really bad and by that time Ackerman (swatfishy) tells you "speak to yourself" unless you are carrying the team and you wasn't carrying the team, I hardly noticed you doing something, of what you reply "shut your hole" and in the next campaign you decide to ragequit and yet you demand some kind of apology?

And yes... you rushed for no reason, actually a few of your teammates were still up and trying to pick up a few incapped survivors and turns out that you died BEFORE they did. I was watching while I was pouncing around the invisible walls and I could see you way ahead of your team.

  17.

A player victorvictor should read that advice...

was that him? i think i saw him once defibbed like 7-8 times in one map. :blink2:

Yeah, he seems to do it on purpose despite of what the team says he does it anyways and stops when an admin gets on the server.
