  2. I know this is my l4d2 side coming through. However, what can we do to differentiate our server from others? What will bring in new players, and take them away from other servers? Is there anything like a !buy system for tf2? Where you can purchase perks. Say like ammo, health, invuln. You get the idea.

NO please god no. TF2 doesnt need any more random stuff complicating it. that might work for an 10v10 version of an 8 player game but TF2 is muddy enough as it is.

  3. how does TF2 handle respawns on the config side? Different game modes have different schemes, like payload uses wave respawns while cp maps use individual timers. is there a way to make it each maps default? Do defaults exist?

the game is balanced for timed respawn.

RTV is pretty nice for TF2 since stalemates are inevitable.

  4. Hypothetical suggestion:

    1. CTF_Doublecross- its different and still a top 10 map. I would specifically avoid 2fort despite its popularity. Turbine would also be a good choice for a ctf map.

    2. pl_frontier

    3. pl_badwater

    4. cp_dustbowl                 2-5 all top 10 maps

    5. plr_hightower

    6. cp_lazytown- seems fun

    7. cp_degrootkeep- fun and stupid melee map

    8. cp_baloonrace- my personal favorite stupid/fun map

    9.   TBD stock

    10. TBD custom

  5. These are the most popular maps, in order. Its the best stats database I could find. If someone has any other data please post it!

We don't need to limit ourselves to these, but, for a fledgling server getting players in is the most important thing. The first page are the maps that bring people in.

I think the best setup is to use those maps as the backbone and have a few interesting but playable custom maps to keep things interesting/keep people around. By playable I mean they have to work with a full server. TF2 is stalemate friendly and a lot of times the cool/interesting seeming maps are actually a mess. I know that goes for my beloved Rats_1337 in csgo. We need to remember that the maps we like aren't necessarily the best bet for a fledgling server.

    I think cp_balloonrace is a lot of fun as a breakup/fun/different map.
