Guest The Hurricane January 16, 2003 Share Guest The Hurricane Guests January 16, 2003 I'm running windows XP... everytime I boot my computer up it like freezes for 2-3 mins after my desktop loads... I can't connect to my DSL... when I click on the button it just gives me the hour glass for like 1 second.. then the hour glass goes away and like 2 minutes later the connection screen will pop up...? Also I can't access the "My Computer"... when I click it, it just gives me a blank window and there is a flashlight... But i can open folders like I can open the C:\ folder or the C:\Program Files folder etc... just not the "My Computer" weird?
Guest ZDamage January 16, 2003 Share Guest ZDamage Guests January 16, 2003 odd this happened after your fixes to your video card. Try undoing those and see if this works. If not, try restoring XP to a previous point.

Gond January 16, 2003 Share Gond Member January 16, 2003 After the 2-3 minutes do things run fine? Does it thrash the HD during this time or just appear to be sitting idle? If you boot to safe mode does it exhibit the same behavior? Is this a store pc or a home built?
Guest The Hurricane January 16, 2003 Share Guest The Hurricane Guests January 16, 2003 After 2-3 minutes everything runs fine. It seems to just be sitting idle... I mean I don't really know what you mean by "thrash" but it just sits there and does nothing. It's a dell... I'll try safe mode on my next reboot and get back to yah. Gond January 16, 2003 Share Gond Member January 16, 2003 You would know if your hard drive was being "thrashed". It would be making lots of noise and the light would be on the whole time. You might still want to check all the startup stuff that is happening...virus protection is probably the culpret but thats a guess. I'd give Dell a call...make sure you tell them you already rebooted
