Playaa August 28, 2006 Author Share Playaa Member August 28, 2006 currently I'm looking at an '84 Virago for like $800. no clue on the mileage yet but it will probably be a year before I drive much on the highway so a cheap beater bike is probably where I want to start. benjester August 28, 2006 Share benjester Member August 28, 2006 (edited) Take the course. General J was correct in everything he stated. I have a 2000 R6, and the weight limit on that is like 300 lbs... the size of the engine doesn't change the weight it can carry, just how fast it can go with the weight. Dealing with weight is all in teh suspension regardless of what size engine it is. I would say start on the smaller one if that is an option... if you are hell bent on starting on something bigger (not recommended) go older. take the course before buying a bike, you will be thankful you did. One other note: if you go with a sport bike, start on something like a 250 or a 500 ( or something older at the very least)... if you go cruisers, you could probably start on a rebel or v-star like i stated above... cruisers put out less horsepower and weigh more generally...
