TeK August 30, 2003 Share TeK Member August 30, 2003 OK, I picked up a NETGEAR router as the linksys I had didn't want to work properly. I can connect to "AIM" but cannot connect or recieve files. I also cannot connect to IRC. When I try and join this shows up. [15:33] * Connecting to west.gamesnet.net (6667) - [15:33] -west.gamesnet.net- *** Looking up your hostname - [15:33] -west.gamesnet.net- *** Found your hostname, cached - [15:33] -west.gamesnet.net- *** Checking Ident - [15:34] -west.gamesnet.net- *** No ident response - [15:34] Ping? Pong! - Your username is invalid. Connect with your real username, in lowercase. If your mail address were foo@bar.com, your username would be foo. - [15:34] Closing Link: TeKNiK|zx2 by GameWarriors.NJ.US.GamesNET.net (USER: Bad username) - [15:34] * Disconnected I am able to use the internet and also "Direct connect" on AIM but cannot send files directly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am also able to play CS. I have tried going to the website dedicated for the router http://192.168.0.1 and done something with port fowarding but nothing seems to work. Plz help me u tech heads. I would like to be able to connect to IRC and be able to send and recieve files over aim.
Asphyxiator August 31, 2003 Share Asphyxiator Member August 31, 2003 open the proper ports for aim, or just set yourself as DMZ

Gond August 31, 2003 Share Gond Member August 31, 2003 Making yourself DMZ is dangerous...it means any port attack is going to be forwarded to your machine instead of being blocked at the router. Only open the ports you need...and I'd be careful about that.
Asphyxiator September 3, 2003 Share Asphyxiator Member September 3, 2003 Well... no more dangerous than being in front of the router, which he was before.
Gond September 3, 2003 Share Gond Member September 3, 2003 Nope...your right, pretty much exactly the same as not having a router.
