  1. Yup, because everyone knows there's nothing evil about good ol' market capitalism. None of the crash of 2008 had annnnythinggg to do with banks giving loans out to people for houses they couldn't actually afford. Austerity's probably the way to go right? Greece seems pretty happy about it.

  2. I admit I need to do a lot more research on this to get my facts straight but I feel that the problem lies in that the government isn't investing enough in areas that could help the much worse off. For instance I think that the idea of trickle down economics is a joke and doesn't work but then again I'll post later with some more info. In the mean time though I have a question for you, when you say free markets are the answer do you mean completely unregulated or just less regulated than they are, is that the form that the attack is coming in?

  3. What about those who work hard but are out of luck and were born in a time of bad circumstance?

Change your circumstances. Change your environment. There is nothing preventing anyone from improving their lives except self-imposed barriers and government interference.

Without trying to make this sound like a personal attack, this is one of the most frustrating arguments I've ever heard that people make when they think that the lower class has only themselves to blame for not bettering their position. There's a reason why most people don't leave the ghetto and other very impoverished areas of this country. It's not because they're all lazy, yes some people are, just like the are some people who are lazy everywhere. It's because the system is not fair nor is it anywhere near equal. I know myself that if I did not have the opportunities I had, the unfortunate bouts of anxiety and depression that I've gone through would have made my life much, much, worse. It's a lot easier to tell someone to pick themselves up by their boot straps when you have no idea what their life is like. Crasx you made not the most eloquent arguer, but you have a lot of good points about race. Which anyone in Chicago would know, considering how unbelievably economically and geographically segregated this city is. Just go south of Chinatown, or West of the UIC campus west of the loop and you immediately see the difference.

The thing I like about that video is it does't argue that wealth should be completely evenly distributed, and as much as I have fallen in love with Marxism over the last few years I'm still enough of a realist to understand that not only will there be some unequal distribution it's actually ok but the way that wealth is distributed in America currently is absolutely repulsive. To say any otherwise would just be lying to yourself.

  4. More excuses being made. Then to justify it, you claim that other administrations have done it but provide no proof. Obama used the IRS to suppress the Conservative vote in 2012 and used it to harass Romney donors. What was done between 2010 and 2012 had NEVER been done before and on such a scale. Keep making excuses though.

Called current events and the news. Not going to do it for you.

I have seen nothing in the news that says anything about this being bigger than anything that has ever happened as an abuse of power by a gov't. I'm not calling you a liar I just want to know where you read it, and yes I think of myself as very up to date with the news. None of that American news garbage either, BBC, The Guardian, or The Economist do such a better job.

  6. Even as a fervent admirer of Obama early on I completely understand any frustration or anger with this slew of scandals. The only point I would like to make is stop saying that it's all because of the guy on top. PRISM was first authorized under The Bush Administration and I have very little doubt in my mind, giving the amount of innocent civillians that were detained after the pass of the Patriot act that the Bush administration didn't conduct high level surveillance of domestic US phone traffic. Basically then I would say that Obama has now just become as bad. But this whole culture in gov't that creates fear among the civillian population propagating the need for a "war on terror" goes beyond just one man. I'm with you on one point, I just want to finish school, save up some money and move to somewhere a little safer and more free. Yes America is not the most free nor best country in the world. New Zealand for instance is way better, let's just all move there.

ZD you're welcome to join as well, the country is absolutely beautiful. Gay marriage is legal, there's universal health care and they have a tiny army because they're in the middle of nowhere and they don't really interfere with anyone.

  7. Good luck! I'm gonna relive my gym membership next week. As always, I gained extra pounds during winter. Must burn them! :)

Stop taking the El, bike everywhere instead. Trust me it works wonders. I also rock climb a lot, and that's a great full body workout, though it's more for toning then for weight loss.

  8. Has anyone else tried Google's new music streaming service (the first month is free and then you get billed on the second month). It's really, really good. Especially if you have an android device, the playlist creator is way better than mediocre radio feature on Spotify. I cancelled after the free trial because I won't really have fast/if any internet or phone service in Yellowstone but I definitely plan on renewing when I'm back in the city. Seriously it's awesome.

SJ do you still use Rdio?

  9. Been toying with the idea to start playing again... haven't played since.. hmm the Halloween event? Has some cool new stuff been added?

Enough to warrant playing for a little while. They added a new end game dungeon called Fractals of the Mist (or Fractals for short) that's a little bit longer than a normal exploration path. Basically there are a number of different fractal levels and when you complete three in a row you level up and can do a more difficult one. On even numbered levels (e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) there's a bass called Jade Maw after the third fractal after which you get a nice chest reward. Also once you get to level 10 bosses in each Fractal start using an effect called Agony which basically hurts a hell of a lot unless you you have Agony Resistance which you can get on the new rarity of item they added in November called Ascended. That's just a brief summary but here's a much better guide

Beyond that they also added a new zone called Southsun Cove in November and it's changed a little bit with what A.net is called Living Story (aka their way of keeping the game alive by making the world change). It's great for farming and right now it's at the end of a event that gives daily chest rewards for defeating the Karka "queen".

Sorry that was probably a lot of info at once but basically tl;dr yes at least hop on GW2, it's not like there's a subscription fee so I don't see any reason why not to. Hit me up if I'm online.

  10. My guild chat was a rage fest for a good while. You should add me, either as Allanon Dazzles (My mesmer main) or my account name Fishesofgold.4985. I won't be on for most of the summer after this week but I'll probably pick it back up in the Fall.

  11. I was gonna say QOTSA, but you beat me to it.

Imagine Dragons: really liked their two singles, haven't checked out the CD yet though

It's good, very poppy nothing lasting but great for chilling out on a sunny day.

  12. SBI... your damn zergs are terrible at siege. If only they weren't so big.

Yeah, and we spend all our effort on EB instead of splitting our zergs so we don't lose all of our borderlands before we're down by about 200 points per tick :\. That's why I mostly just do Fractals now and farm dungeons. What server are you on?

  13. Summer's finally here. Well it has for a little bit, but I just finished classes because my school in Chicago goes forever and I think it's time to start blasting them summertime jams. So what are some good new albums that you guys will be blasting on your Walkmen?

Here's what I've been putting on repeat so far

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

    The Strokes - Comedown Machine

Queens of the Stone Age- ...Like Clockwork

Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City

The National - Trouble Will Find Me

Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends (Seriously give it a listen, unbelievably good)

well that's all I can think of for now.

  14. Yay for watching sports with friends! However, don't you mean "Hello Bruins"? Here's hoping for a 7 game series for the cup.

lolno. The hawks will win, and I will join in the celebratory rioting/looting/whatever happens after a team wins a championship which I have no idea what that's like because I'm from Cleveland.

  15. Still playing, though I'm going to take a break once I leave to work at Yellowstone for the summer, hopefully they'll be closer to new content by then.

    P.S. Stormbluff forever

  16. What does it mean when I agree with most of this (being a woman?) Either I'm really really confused, or I've been trained and must revolt.

It means that gender norms are stupid and anarchic. Also lolwat.

  17. Chicago gets up to mid 90s in the Summer (last year over 100 I believe). Which isn't even the worst part, it also gets so humid you can't sweat because you're basically swimming in moisture. That's why I'm going to Yellowstone where it doesn't get warmer than 80 and there is no humidity to be found. Except it does still get down to around 30-40 at night.

Yellowstone can't get any warmer than that. The size and amount of bugs creates a permanent partial eclipse of the sun.

    Also, itching.

The end of the late shift in the beginning of the summer is always the worst. I work right on a marina and get eaten alive while I have to wait for all the boats to come back and dock.
