  1. looking at those covers, i think hbo's special effects team has a lot of work in front of them

One of those pictures has already happened and the other two probably won't because they're very vague (like the Westeros Kings in the background of Danaerys)

  2. 85 degrees. Drinking by the pool. Might go for a swim. Hows your winter going?

You know nothing of the winter of the North, young Southron squire.

  3. Wish you guys all the best, I got a contract in the mail a few weeks a go and it looks like I'm going to be in Yellowstone again for the summer. I'll probably swing by on a moose.

What are you gonna do in Yellowstone park?

Dockhand on Yellowstone Lake. Just call me Allanon the "boatman"

  4. So like normal I've been on a big music/music reflection kick while exams are about to start (silly quarter system), and I thinking about what has really changed me and impacted me more than any other. I'm an album guy, so I figured I'd make a list of my top five and most significant albums for me. What are yours?

    (In no particular order)

    1. Radiohead - Ok Computer. No album more accurately describes the isolating feeling that modern society gives you. I challenge you to listen to it while alone in a big city surrounded by people you don't know.

    2. The Strokes - Is This It? - It's hard for me to even write how much I love this album. I never listened to The Strokes when they first came out as I was a late bloomer in terms of musical appreciation, but I can say that I've listened to Is This It? On repeat more than I would like to admit. Everything about it is just so perfect.

    3. The Beatles - The White Album - I had to put a Beatles album down there as I don't think any other music group has affected me more but I had a hard time picking. The White Album pretty much has the best of every Beatle simple because they couldn't agree on what songs to put in so they made it a double LP with each member getting a decent amount of tracks in.

    4. London Calling - The Clash - I admit I don't know too much about punk. I definitely am not a punk rock kinda person, but that's why I love London Calling. I feel like if punk rock had an album that it could put on display it would this one. Something that is equal parts desctructive, and creative. It's also hard not to like that The Clash released London Calling as a double LP and sold it for the price of one. Stick it to the man.

    5. Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun - I feel like it's difficult to fully describe the experience of listening to a Sigur Ros album, especially this one. It's given me more revelations and contradictory conclusions than I can remember. It's that album that makes you completely rethink what is music can be and what you can be as a person.

Wooo. Sorry if that went on too long. Can't wait to hear what your guys top 5 are!

  5. Sometimes i look at it on my desktop and think, "..... maybe...." but then I don't. No real reason, just lack of interest. Not much to do once you are 80 last time I checked.

Fractals, WvW, sPvP, Legendaries, level up alts, etc. Plenty of stuff to do.

I've got 3 80s now with fully exotic gear and I'm farming for my legendary. You guys need to come back!

P.S. Onyxdragoon add me when you get it (Fishesofgold4865/Allanon Dazzles)

  6. It's been sOOO long I forget what happened last season :/

If you read the books, then last season ended half way through book 2. God only knows when George will write book 6. It only took him years to write book 5 and HBO needs this series to go on for a while.

Well kind of, they're kinda screwing around with the chronology a little bit so they're supposedly on book 3 now (especially since they showed The Battle of Blackwater Bay at the end of season 2). However apparently they're cutting book 3 into two seasons, and as someone who has read the books I always love seeing people's reactions to events that I know are coming up.

  7. I work in Rivernorth and live in Wicker Park.

what kind of fixie do you ride?

He said Wicker Park not Logan Square, he's mainstream now. Also don't worry SJ right back atcha.

wicker park was cool before logan square, thus the core hipsters are in wicker park. logan square is full of posers.

Truth. Logan Square's just the cheaper Wicker Park. I get my neighborhoods confused, is Wicker Park just south of Bucktown?

  9. oh, and before i pass judgment, who had what to drink?

This is assuming that you didn't pass judgement already. I don't remember besides Walking cat ordering two Fat Tires and I had a Black Butte Porter, Three Floyds Pride and Joy IPA and some Belgian that I can't remember.

  10. Just got back from climbing, this is downtown right? Probably won't be there till 6:30 at the earliest. How long do you guys think you'll be there?

I just realized that the plan was for 8 so I'll definitely be there then.

  11. allanon: It's a bit older but I'd say it goes to 13. It had two Penryn based quad core Xeons with a happy combined 24M of L2 cache.

boiler: If you wanna donate a video card(s) then yes, as the 32M ATI video probably won't do it. Also I still rock a Philips 201P 21" CRT running at 2048x1538x100Hz. Love my old monitor.

voodoo: It actually came with a SCSI U320 PCIe 8x HBA, probably for a tape drive at one time, probably pull it and put it in my junk drawer.

sutters: Standard feature on this generation so if you're running KVMless and iLO for some reason breaks you can just plugin up front without having to pull the server out on it's rails.

tomatoes: I would love to donate like a DL360e Gen8 but a loaded out one at cost is still easily pushing 4k. I got this from a local recycler that buys out all the equipment from the local datacenters and it was (very) cheap.

The old beast should happily run multiple game servers, and it is about as reliable as you can get. Right now it has the P400 SAS RAID controller with 512M of BBWC and a couple of 10k 146G drives. I gotta dig through inventory at work and see if we have matched four matched 15k drives for a RAID 10 or perhaps a RAID 5 depending on what I can scrounge up. Depending on what I can find laying around for RAM for it I'd like to see 8 4G DIMMs either configured as 32G or as 24G with two hot-spares for each bank, we'll see what I can find laying around as I rather not order RAM for as it's expensive. If someone wants to donate 8 8G DDR2-667 buffered ECC HP spec'ed DIMMs go for it :P It has a single 800W hot-swap power supply in it, depending on what the local guy has/online prices I might throw in a second one right away. It also sports two 1000Base ethernet controllers with transmit/receive offload, TSO offload, Link aggregation and fail over, jumbo frames, an iLO2 basic license, and N+1 redundant fans. Like all HP servers besides the newer UEFI ones it does it's 'fan curve update' on boot up and it'll suck a small mammal through the front of it and sounds like an Airbus A380.

  12. we need to hear what crasx and mohawk think about it.

I'm absolutely down, and I finally have a U-pass again so I can go anywhere the CTA does!

Great Allanon, I use CTA sometimes too. I think downtown of Chicago is the best area. Do you have a good place in mind?

I do but I'm in Lakeview so everything I know is either off of Southport or in Lincoln Park. I'm ok with downtown as well I just don't know what good spots are down there. Maybe we should check out smalltabs.com

  13. Let me add that this one is better for a little more money. More video memory and better i7 CPU for only 800.

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834215615

This one is running a similar performance ATI video but with i5 processor. $100 cheaper though.

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834131394

Those are just a few anyway. Hope it helps you save some money.

I too am in the market for a gaming laptop. It can be big and bulky. I really like the laptop in the first link here but I really would like Windows 7. The price range would be 700-800. Any other suggestions? I'm not opposed to refurbished if you guys feel that is a safe route to go.

Just gonna join in on the bandwagon here as my 3 year old HP laptop (which wasn't top of the line when I got it) could really use a good replacement. Looking for a mix between decent battery life and decent gaming. I'd say max 1000 cash dollar hairs.
