  1. I wish stats would be up on the GC servers so I could have a better idea about how the individuals are doing in terms of KD ratio
  2. Well thanks for the response and all I can say: GO, GO, GO !
  3. It's really good to see the progress. Thanks for the organizers. Regarding the captain selection and teams I would have some questions/observations as a newcomer. 1. Was there any specific criteria to select the captains? Is it based on experience, GC membership or something else? I expected to have the teams randomly put together and then each team elect its leader internally... 2. About the teams - random draw was mentioned somewhere... is this still the plan? Do you consider factors such as location of the players when composing the teams? Pings on certain servers can be different for east coast / west coast people not to talk about the time difference. 3. If we are about to start matches next weekend (24th) it would be nice to announce the teams earlier so they can organize some practice together before the first "live" match...
  4. as of today the stats of the MidWest and MW scopeless are still not available. Even from the GC homepage link... Is somebody working on it or just the links are dead?
  5. Hey, so what is going on with MCC VIII - March break takes it's toll with a delay? ))) Would be good to know what to expect as a kick-off date?
  6. it3llig3nc3 - the selected number is: 19 I assume you don't need to be a paying member of GC to sign-up? Well regardless I wanted to join sooner or later anyways Just let me know.
  7. Thanks for looking into this. I posted prodigy because this was the point when I really got desperate about the situation. Even on prior maps the situation was similar. (I would need to check if I have screenshots). I asked them to split up before decided to take the screenshot and post it. Also there was another guy amongs the CTs (the one with the -3) who started to shoot practically everybody whom he encountered claiming that "everybody looks alike"... This adding to the skillstack of Ts made the playing impossible for me... It was quite unfortunate that there was no admin around. The other server (SCOPELESS) was almost full so I was not able to switch and join to ask around if an admin is there. (as I'm not a member and I guess some slots are kept for members only...) Anyways, it is not a big deal and indeed we don't need to curse s4h however they should be a bit less selfish about having fun... The other thing is that altough it is not common but during the past few weeks I noticed that 10:0 10:1 10:2 map wins could easily occur. I know that some of the admin mods can not only team balance but skill balance as well (e.g. switch players from one side to another to balance the skill based on the player's scores) so you might want to consider turning it on if nothing else works.
  8. Guys I just wanted to know if what I experienced today is kinda "normal" practice. So far all I saw was that playing on the servers provided a good gaming experience. Today I just got off from the server after playing several rounds practically against a clan... that was kinda depressing... I hope it won't happen too often... # userid name uniqueid connected ping loss state # 2233 "s4h - RefleX" STEAM_0:0:456005 23:16 108 0 active # 2216 "s4h - tal0n" STEAM_0:1:206006 31:48 52 0 active # 2238 "farmerisme-=GC=-" STEAM_0:0:6002785 09:45 60 1 active # 2177 "|BMC| Ace" STEAM_0:1:4471891 58:55 67 0 active # 2237 "{cp} Tiaga" STEAM_0:1:4862269 14:55 89 0 active # 2089 "s4h - NorgmaN" STEAM_0:1:40586 2:10:47 44 0 active # 2242 "cVK`" STEAM_0:0:809870 01:48 38 0 active # 2243 "[GofW-A] FatalNut" STEAM_0:0:4547561 01:47 61 0 active # 2212 "s4h - StricKeN" STEAM_0:0:9265108 37:00 59 0 active # 2209 "«darc|it3llig3nc3|«" STEAM_0:0:261412 38:28 53 0 active # 2217 "{cp} Traffas" STEAM_0:1:3441739 31:41 97 3 active # 2244 "Bron Bron" STEAM_0:1:5336433 00:01 58 55 spawning # 2150 "Goofus Maximus" STEAM_0:1:141935 1:26:13 63 0 active # 2037 "s4h - ChenTzen" STEAM_0:1:13767 2:52:18 98 0 active # 2226 "Zbrawl" STEAM_0:1:7234002 26:20 133 0 active # 2227 "DiaperSniper" STEAM_0:0:9909126 26:20 235 0 active
  9. is this kinda the CS:S F10 trick of the forum? good I'll make it my signature
  10. Well, I'm sorry for killing your entertaintment... Save the popcorn for the next debate unless Fatty puts up an insult that makes me continue the discussion... (JOKING!!!!)
  11. OK fine. Debate (or whatever we call it - maybe discussion) is over. I believe we're just going around here. On the funny side I did not realize what makes the difference between pubber and regular It's good to know. Half serious: you know I'm not sure I want to become a regular, mostly because GC clearly has different management values than myself, therefore I don't think I can call it >home<. The funny thing is that I might want to be a paying member simply to make sure if I wanna play on GC I have a reserved spot. Even with the different mindset (I mean different from mine how a server should be managed) most of the time it is very enjoyable for me to play on the GC servers. Maybe you would call it schizophrenia but this is the way I feel. I'm a complicated person I know Serious: I think I would have walked away, yes. Why? Because you're the boss here. And I would never debate that. Plus you know: just by asking it seriously would have given an indication that this is not a type of place I ever want to be. After all this I just wanna say: "let it be peace"
  12. That's my point, you're weren't reading. Who in GC was arguing with you? Nobody. He (you) was arguing with a pubber (Macabre) who has decided to back up the admin. Struck me as funny, still is. We don't need high-maintenence fragile gamers who take offense to a word that doesn't carry insult (that wasn't even meant for them). You're either a member, a regular, or a pubber. Where's the "cheap insulting exerecise" that you're referring to? Even if I DID refer to you, you shouldn't equate the use of the word "pubber" with the idea of you riding in steerage either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Indeed your statement about who is agruing with who can be read the way you claim and I confess I did not read it that way and took as an insult. I apologize for this. Please note that between my post and your post there were 6 other from four different people (mookie, stuffering.john, brillow head, wayfarer) and the way I read it that you comment one of them arguing with me. Besides I just realized that in the original conversation (the log 1 posted) I was arguing with another pubber and not a member. It is not obvious as many times members are using nicks wirhout tags and even admins don't reveal themselves as admins publicly for pubbers (they even post messages into the in-game chat in green only with (ADMIN) as a mark only) Am I high maintenance? Perhaps on this matter yes. Maybe because it is important for me and it was a bit difficult to realize how different our viewpoints are. I think I clearly stated that I understand the rules and know my possible choices. Also you probably realize that this discussion won't end with consensus. And that's OK too. But to close it in a way that you go personal (-->"we don't need high maintenance guys here") is a bit harrash and let's be honest: not too fair in a debate. If you don't want me around I can understand that just let me know. Also if you wish to close this debate once and forever.
  13. Well that was a bit rude and just reinforces my feeling that if you're not paying you're second grade "cheap" nobody with whom GC should not even argue? Pathetic. Secondly: just to show that I planned to be a member, I even exchanged PM with Fatty to see if the community is alive and functioning: Thirdly, This debate is not about that one mapchange to assault I hope it's clear. It's about the policy how admins should behave. I think I'm 100% clear now how GC operates on this matter and I understand that my choices are accepting them or leave as they won't change. 4. Another quite rude and high and mighty comment to answer: Well take the 63.251.20.39:27015 for example. I left the clan mostly due to the fact that I had not enough personal time to dedicate to their very strong efforts to fight and win in the different ladders. The server is EXISTING, well managed. I think you all should be proud of the GC servers and the tight rules you maintain on them, but please don't think that you're alone. Up to this point I thought it's a fair debate/conversation but it seems that it went down to a cheap insulting exerecise which is sad. Lastly: if you want my $50 so you feel better debating with a member not a "PUBber", just let me know... if this is what makes you happy I'll pay...
  14. Thanks again for the feedbacks and opinions. I think it was very useful for me in order to understand the GC culture and mindset around these things. I really appreciate the effort you made to respond. However. (does not sound good, eh?) Wayfarer said some things I would like to continue to comment on. 1. He said "I'm sorry but I don't "buy into" this argument [editor: it is about admins paying for the server so they can do more things without asking]. I would be willing to bet your "opinion" would change if you were a paid member." Even if nobody believes me (however I can produce the proofs) I was in a situation for paying for a server and being admin on it. And not $50/year but $50/month! And yet, I acted the way I described. Simply because I did not get obsessed by the power I had. Yes some people choose to pay for these servers but it's mostly because they can control the environment and also have guaranteed "seats" when they want to play. The grey area is where the hospitality starts to be nice and FAIR with players who are not paying but (and it's important) generating the crowd for the paying ones so they can enjoy the game. In my mind hospitality includes being polite and at least asking about certain things. We passed feudalism a long time ago. I feel irritating when people start acting like "the choosen". If this is why some people pay for being an ADMIN it's very very unfortunate. Having power over others is all about respect and moving beyond selfishness. 2. Wayfarer also said that I can choose to pay and then take the benefits. All I have to say to this is that if I choose to pay I will do it because I find GC a valuable thing and I want to give my contribution to make it stronger. I'm not going to buy membersip to enjoy these debatable benefits such as being asked about a map-change... anyways, it is still a lot of fun to play on the server even if some things does not go the way I believe it's optimal... Maybe I'm the minority with my too liberal thinking and the World won't change. The rich and strong will rule as they wish.
  15. Thanks for the responses. Maybe I'm over-reacting this whole thing and it was only a technical issue. Also I'm considering to be a paying member as one of you recommended, just decided to give some time. The server rules are rather strict and here people can really get kicked for one single word which is not allowed and then come up to the forum asking for forgiveness. I'm not quite sure this attitude meets my style and wanna pay to be part of it... but that's OFF topic. About the mapchange. The reason for my overrreaction is that it always tinklees me off when the argument comes up around "I pay for the server, whoever plays there for free should only enjoy it and follow what the paying members want." I tend to look at the regular (--> non paying) players really as guests. And let's be honest: CS can not be enjoyed alone. not even in small crowd. It's really enjoyable with at least 6-8 players. So the guests are really helping for the paying members to get something for their money.... otherwise the server would be much less full... So I think it's a host's _responsibility_ to be nice with the guests and ask what they want... You don't move out a chair under your guest at home just because it's more comfortable for your girlfriend, right? In the mods there is map vote function so it's not so difficult to use it... Why not? Whatever. I think I got the point and have no doubt that nobody is against the players. But for some admins it looks like: "one for all, and more for me"
  16. First I wanted to put up this copy from the server console without comment, but then I realized that some people might misunderstand it so I put it up with the following question: Is there a policy, rule on GC that admins can decide to change the next map based on their own will/desire/decision/preference? I believed that the admin's are more hosts on these servers and making sure the gameplay is fair and enjoyable. Changing maps without asking the players on the server is quite rude in my _personal_ opinion. I'm not sure it's a good argument that admins pay for the server so they do whatever they want... But whatever. so playing on the server, completing aztec the nextmap supposed to be assault and I kinda like that map especially the CS:Source version which is more balanced for CTs than the original. And then italy came up... So I asked why... below is the discussion, the relevan lines marked with --> Enjoy . Counter-Strike: Source . Map: cs_italy . Players: 11 / 25 . Build 2596 . 17. Yeah Yeah ... Already being used... but ill tell you this.... check the other GC servers... Maybe there is no admin on this one curently... but there must be on one of the others... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1. I decided to put up the "get rid of the hang idea" as many others (==> other than you) did not seem to be aware of it and I hoped it helps. You are clever, yes. great. Unfortunately nobody else than me tried to help in this thread with a solution for guys who DOES not know... Don't be selfish, please! 2. Yes I can check if there is an admin somewhere else... just like many other things I can do. Unfortunately the point is not that. The point is if you really listen to what I was saying is that I saw a contradiction between the statement from "Gamerscoalition" (see applying for admin section) saying they "have enough admins" and the fact that only a few times I play on the server I really see admins.
  18. I found this topic and thought it might help to put up some explanation about the variables we're trying to tweak here. Maybe understanding them makes it easier to find the most appropriate value for everybody. Credits should go to www.nuclearfallout.net as I took this from their FAQ. (they are in general a server rental company... ...by far the best I have every dealt with). Q: How can I optimize my client settings (cvars) so gameplay is as smooth as possible? A: There are three main settings to look at on the client-side. These are rate, cl_updaterate, and cl_cmdrate. rate determines the speed, in bytes per second, that your client allows itself and the server to interact at. This setting is needed because your client has no idea how fast your connection is, and it doesn't know how to find out. The rate setting tells it the maximum speed at which it can transfer data. If it is set too high, your connection may not be able to handle it, and you will get packetloss; if it is set too low, choke and latency will increase, possibly making your game stutter or lag. Half-life is generally able to compensate for choke fairly well, as long as there is not much of it; however, when choke gets too high (over 100), it has to start dropping packets (and we all know how bad packetloss is!). I recommend a rate of 8000 or 10000, since most broadband connections can easily handle it (try 10000 first). cl_updaterate determines how many updates per second the client will accept when it is interacting with the server. A higher value can make gameplay more smooth, although it often makes your ping appear higher due to the added latencies on both ends from extra calculations involved. I recommend a cl_updaterate of 40, which I have found balances ping and smoothness fairly well. Feel free to try higher and lower values. A value too high can cause choke if your machine or your connection can't handle all the packets; a high value can also make your ping look much higher than it should be. Some people blindly set this variable to 101 -- that would be an example of a too-high value. cl_cmdrate determines how many commands your client sends to the server per second (such as moving, turning, jumping). I usually recommend that users set their cl_cmdrate cvar to the same value as cl_updaterate, because they are so similar. Too-high or too-low values (like 101) may lead to the infamous "shots not registering" problem and high values can also cause high in-game pings. © nuclearfallout.net: Nuclearfallout-FAQ-Lag
  19. And to help out with this server stuck situation here is an "antidote". It's not my idea, I experienced it yesterday on the server, where there was no admin around to take the server out of the "hang". The hang goes away if we can force the server to change map. Voting is difficult (and not even allowed at the beginning of the map if ever...), so here is how to do it quickly b4 loosing the players on the server. 1. Ask everybody to go to Spectator, except one T and one CT 2. either the T or CT should suicide (console KILL) 10 times as the server is configured to change map after one team reaches the score 10 it will trigger the change map and the server will be OK again... happy fragging
  20. well yes. Same as above. I think if the admin is a "privilege" and it only comes with rights and not responsibilites this is what happens I think the point is to organize the admins in a way that at least the peak playing times are 99% covered. So pick admins based on their promise and potential availability schedule
  21. well, that's understandable, however the point of having _multiple_ admins (just go and check the admin roster) is to provide coverage as much as possible. Eh???
  22. server stuck again... one more note: I'm new. the join page says that currently there is no need for more admin... from my point of view this is the 3rd time when this happens with the server in the past few days and there was no admin at all present at either case. If you have so many admins, why is this an issue????
