  1. I'm starting to question why I play this game. My matchup luck has been absurdly awful. It's been three weeks in a row now that both of my teams have had opponents with players that went nuts. My Colts winning is the only thing salvaging this weekend, unless I manage to find 30+ points out of the Bears playmakers tonight. I've written off League #2 matchup since it would take 60+ out of Marshall, Lacy and Boykin.

  2. Yeah, I'm Twice Lucky in League #1, and the "on his heels" thing definitely feels accurate. Didn't help that my QB1, WR1, and RB1 were all on bye this week and I had to start Doug Martin's backup on an already crappy TB offense. Injuries and poorly coordinated byes have made it a challenge.

I thought I would get crushed by pronouncemyname in league #1 this week, but annoyingly Vick getting hurt and turning in a .34 and Murray sitting out and turning in a 0 gave me hope of an epic comeback. Then Roethlisberger happened, the Jags ignored their best receiver for the second week in a row, my TE gets hurt, and Calvin Johnson goes absolutely bonkers and I suffer a loss more stinging than losing 123-80. Why do I play this game again?

I also can't believe that the 10 team league has 6 playoff spots and the 12 team league only has 4. Good lord.

  3. I am in a very similar situation to Clueless, unfortunately. I get my insurance through my work, but it's at an 80-20 level, and total costs for coverage have gone up roughly 30% over the last couple of years. That means more money has been taken from my paycheck to pay the difference, so I'm obviously not thrilled.

This is why I do not at all believe that this law is going to lower costs. I am the very definition of middle class (essentially right in the middle). Every politician claims to be pandering to the middle class, and it's us that seem to be hit the hardest thus far. Drives me crazy.

  4. Not quite sure how you guys are having trouble with the 8.1 update (at least from 8, not 7). I ran it on my Surface and desktop and it was easy and flawless. Really like the features added to the new start button (right clicking on it).

To be honest, once I paired Win 8 with a solid state drive, I have a hard time wanting to work on Win 7 machines. The speeds are absolutely insane.

  5. Thought I would start up a thread for people to initiate trade discussion. Obviously negotiations should take place in PMs, but the thread could be used as a trade block announcement type thing.

    I'll start it off:

Possibly interested in trading my WR depth for RB help. This is applicable in both leagues. Let me know if interested.

  6. I am still intending to stay out of the meat of this argument, and please understand that I'm not angry at any person on these forums. I'm mad at the government. This is not a partisan thing for me either. In my statement regarding the "passing" of this bill, I only mentioned Democrats because they were the ones with a super majority that crammed this thing through without reading it and without a single Republican vote. Nobody knew what the hell they were voting on. I have no doubt that the methods used for this bill have been used by Republicans before, but THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT. This topic was too important for the entire country to throw some god-awful POS bill like this down our throats without even reading the damn thing.

The whole thing is a travesty, and I'm mad as hell about it. This should have been debated over a long period of time, with give and take on both sides. This should have been a bipartisan effort. Making MAJOR changes to the healthcare system in this country is something that should not have been rushed and deserved input from everyone.

I apologize that I'm not quoting sources on this stuff, but I don't have the energy or desire to do so. Besides that, I'm not exactly stating anything controversial. That is how it went down.

  7. Part of the reason the system is so expensive currently is the lack of centralized negotiation. That's the biggest reason why U.S. health care costs are so out of line with the rest of the world. Medicaid, for example, demonstrates that centralized negotiation can drastically lower health care costs without ruining the market. Supply and demand doesn't work too well with health care, since often times it's pay this price or die.

As someone who has worked in the health care industry for a long time, please refrain from holding up Medicaid as a good example of the "good that comes from centralized healthcare". Their policies and payouts are so abysmal that, in many cases, the people providing the care can't give the care needed or are losing money doing so.

I do have one thing to say regarding Allanon's post:

Listen, no one is trying to argue that Obamacare/Affordable Health Care Act is amazing, the problem is that there seems to be only one solution presented. Get rid of it. That's not a solution, and the time to discuss this is in the past.

There WAS no discussion on this law. It was written behind closed doors and railroaded through Congress using questionable and outside-the-norm methods by a Democratic super-majority, during which time we were told they had to "pass the bill so we can see what's in it". The whole thing was a shamockery. The term "can't polish a turd" (despite what Mythbusters did) comes to mind in this debacle.

This whole topic makes my blood boil, so I will recuse myself now.

  8. This weekend made me question (once again) why I torture myself playing fantasy football. Absolutely infuriating.

On top of it all, the Colts coaches just turned in the single worst coaching job top to bottom that I have witnessed since the Jim Caldwell Era. Not a good weekend.

  9. I loved (past tense) the G500. Posted a review on the forums in the tech section a few years back.

However, it turns out there is a problem with them. The button switches for M1 and M2. The quality is suspect. It took a few years for me but mine is tanking now. Phantom double clicking when wanting just a single click. Boo.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! *runs home to check on beloved G500*

  10. Everything was looking good in both leagues for me until Denver-Dallas happened. Completely sunk me in Deuce because NOBODY COULD F*^ TACKLE DEZ, and forced me to pray for 3 points out of Roddy White on MNF in the other league (which, considering his year thus far, was asking a lot). That Julio injury though could be a killer - my condolences on your loss, FK.

  11. Unfortunately, most books and "studies" are made possible by financing from groups that have a vested interest in the outcome. Maybe I'm just too jaded from the BS that gets passed off as "unbiased fact" these days, but I put about as much faith in the accuracy of "scientific studies" (at least in the realm of political topics) as I do Johnny blog-face.

I think the best you can hope for is to find books with differing views and conclusions, then decide yourself where in the middle your truth may be.

  12. My half-auto drafted team is scrapping along and fighting to be at .500, while battling running-back-and-Hakeem-Nicks-related ineptness.

My self-drafted team is rolling along after a Week 1 hiccup. If Doug Martin is ever allowed to be Doug Martin again, I like my chances :)

Also, Roddy White needs to quit fooling around and get his ankle healthy.

TBT - That was the story of my fantasy season last year. I scored the second most points in the league, but had the most scored on me by a fairly significant margin. I finished second to last.

  13. For the record, Chick, good natured trash talk is a time-honored tradition of fantasy football, and should in no way be taken seriously. No one is trying to offend anyone, just have a good time with it. Fantasy Football is more fun when you can give your friends a hard time and laugh about it.

Also, FPS, the season is OH SO YOUNG still. Your comment did immediately make me think of this though:
