  1. the only thing thye could actually be bad for is the HDD, but the head parks now a days so it is not an issue. Since the components are primarily solid state and have active cooling there are no expansion issues. Back in the day it could have been a problem but only after thousands of starts. The way things are made now it is a non-issue. Most components that fail now are for the exact opposite reason, the heat buildup and stress from running all of the time.or from failed cooling since a fan is the most likely component of a system to go out.

  2. Right, the 80PLUS certification is out now. I am pushing towards making 80% and better power supplies our standard at Wal-Mart. It is amazing, just by changing what we purchase a little bit, in our last quarterly purchase over the next 3 years we will save over 1,500,000 Kwh of energy and about 90,000 dollars in energy costs with that equipment.

  3. I wish I had my original one. Mine irght now is 0:0:5646782 but this is my second account. I lost all the info for my first one and actually had to re-buy HL2... I probably could have found it but I am impatient like that.I just rememberd the email I used for my original account. Someone else owns the domain now though. I emailed them to see if I could get them to make my old account and forward me the email heh.

  4. Anyone looked at low wattage systems? Part of my job is evaluating new hardware and making purchasing decisions based on the quotes we get. Lately we have started considering the environmental impact of the systems we buy (which interestingly enough usually means a better savings/roi over the life of the product) but anyways. I ave started looking at it for the house, for isntance I only use a laptop now since it uses so much less power. I need to build a gaming rig though, htis laptop pays CS:S fine but the 7800 in it probably won't do the next cycle of games so well. I notice it is common on gaming systems to go 800+ watts for the power supply and what not... I am thinking about trying to build the smallest, most energ effecient and still powerful gaming rig possible. Anyone looked at doing this? any thoughts? Graphics is really my only concern.

  5. Review: Everything was great, the people were nice and friendly. I got to meet a lot of nice people. Fatty and Mrs. Fatty were gracious hosts. Awesome food, sausage was a bit spicy. Pancho has some good food, pizza was nice, Swenson was good, KFC was nice, although if you want to switch that out for grilling in the back or some other items I don't mind! Thank you for lunch on the last day, I'm 90% sure I will return next year (other 10% is for unforseenable zomg stuff)

    Ideas:

I know you have pics of people in FragFest site album and such, but would it be ok if we have face pictures ala year book style so we can better memorize or photoshop their names into the pictures. FF blast by so fast for me my memory haven't fully updated itself :(

Stronger specs PC Rentals (I know you have no control on that end but if it helps toss a subtle hint at them hehe)

The CSS tourney this year was kinda off, not Dingy's fault.

A hat would be awesome, maybe sweats hoodie with zippers be cool.

A special FragFest ID plastic card with a face shot pic (like credit cards) and a reader so when people go into the LAN area they have to swipe and it logs their time there.

A spinning thing for raffling stuff yay

Mmmm more to come if I get any more ideas.

If anyone is interested in actually setting this up, and if I have until next year I can probably get setup to borrow the equipment to actually do this. Either magnetic strip or RFID badges with central control and door locks.

  6. I missed all this... Mag's, what was the decision? You guys making the move? I have no new input, everyone else brought up everything that I would have said.

I would tend to agree, change is good...

I agree, moving from Sacramento CA to Fayetteville AR was one of the best things I ever did even though it REALLY didn't seem like it at the time.

  7. If you are not in a hurry I will grab a copy of the drive recovery software we use at work tomorrow and send you a link to a download for it tomorrow night. My guess though, unless all of your data was in a partition outside the range of the installed data currently... you won't be able to recover anything.

Do not Check Disk or Defrag in the mean time, use it as little as possible. Unfortunately most systems do not write from the spindle out, so ever file you write, could be destroying data.

  8. Ok check these out...
