  1. Hardocp.com " Play Quake on Phone: We have all seen phone apps with games and such that sort of look like real 3D, but ATI opened our eyes at CES. The pictures below show id's original Quake actually running in full OpenGL glory on a 240x320 screen that is perfect for mobile phone applications. The power behind the 3D engine is the ATI Imageon 2300, which is a hybrid of technologies that exist within ATI. 2. ANd the above^^^^really only pertains to people that dont really care about brand names. If you think having a certain sticker on your box matters more than anything then go for what you like. Otherwise git on any wagon you want and dont be falling off any time soon. AMD has me sold right now so i wouldnt listen to much crap people had to say if i were in the market. Id just go do my thing the AMD way. Hopefully they wont be dead when its time for me to buy again.
  3. Dont be fooled by intel's or amd's marketing ploys. Their FSB numbers sound insane, point to the 800mhz FSB P4. However, look at benchmarks if your looking for numbers. Make sure its at a legit site that doesnt have a past that demonstrates a bias either (tomshardware If you want a nice sounding FSB number go for the Athlon 64 becuase amd says they have a 1600Mhz FSB and a 2200MHz FSB just like intel says their 800 is all that. Really and truly though it just over hyped crap. FSB isnt what makes the P4 king its pure Mhz and The athlon FX isnt the fastest processor in the world because its got a 2.2Ghz FSB, instead its because its way more efficient per clock cycle than the P4. Ive said this before. The Athlon series of chips is great for gaming. If it lags behinde any processor at all it would only be by the smallest of undetectable margins. The P4 "C" series has a great overall bang for your buck and if you plan on letting your processor churn out MPeg-2 & 4 movies 24/7 then by golly go for the P4. I for one rarely encode media files enough that a few seconds shaven off the total time it takes to a convert file would make a difference. Games are the most intensive things i do on my computer on a regular basis so AMD works for me. It just so happens they are really inexpensive at times too.
  4. Just because they locked the multi doesnt mean you can oc'. If you dont know a whole lot bout overclocking maybe you should stay at stock speeds or research a lil'. The clock rate of a processor is determined by multi and FSB speeds. The FSB of the 2500+ is 333Mhz and requires pc2700 ram. If you buy any pc3200 ram you can overclock slowly to 3200+ on a 400Mhz FSB with the right tools. Duals are great. Dont let anyone tell you they arent. But for gaming they arent the best. The fastest single processors are what you want for gaming. If you want to run a game and have a gamer server on the same machine then you want duals.
  5. http://www.directron.com/cablem.html theres where i get my split loom http://www.xoxide.com/80mmfans.html nice place for fans
  6. Not bad at all. I like all the colours
  7. What bout this? " Memory Supported Several AMD Athlonâ„¢ 64 processor-based motherboards currently support some of the following memory features: -PC1600, PC2100, PC2700 & PC3200 unbuffered memory modules. -184-pin 2.5-Volt DDR DIMMs. -64-bit DDR memory bus. -Supports 64-Mbyte, 128-Mbyte, 256-Mbyte, 512-Mbyte, 1-Gbyte, 2-Gbyte and 4-Gbyte memory technology. -Supports production DIMMs from industry standard DRAM memory manufacturers. Only registered-type memory modules should be used." http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Develo...%5e9513,00.html
  8. Nice work bud. Looks killa wit da lights out. Post more pics when you get all your other stuffs in.
  9. "Oh and BTW LCDS are perfect for gaming. I can tell no diff between my LCD and a CRT." New lcds that is. I dare u to say that about some of the old 15" ones or the ones that still come on most laptops.
  10. Well i cant say i recommend a 9600 se or a 9600 with 256mb of ram. The 9600se is way too slow for many of todays games as is the 9600 non pro. The 9600 pro is the bare minimum card that you could play current games with all the detail on if you have at least a 2Ghz processor. Anything else is more power to yah. A 9600 with 256mb of ram seems like overkill to me and built by ati 9600's dont come with more than 128 so i think ati thinks its overkill too. It shouldnt run any slower than a comparable 9600 card unless the memory controller some how has issues with more ram, but it wont help any on the 9600's. So for the money a 9600pro 128mb card or better is the way to go. That is if you dont feel like exploring nvdiots solution.
  11. lol so laz u going with the million dollar display from dell, a mid range 17"-19", or keeping what u gots
  12. "Hehe, you mean they "resell" the best LCD monitor you have seen." Ah
  13. Correct me if im wrong but i didnt think that LCD panels were affected by refresh rates like crt's. Meaning that a low refresh rate isnt really bad. If youve got the money and still want to game on an LCD then you wont be having a problem. DELL makes one of the best LCD's around at 20" and its good for gaming too. I dont know of any LCD's that are good for gaming besides the dell one but there are more. Look for ones with the best response times. They are better suited for gaming. Its gonna be hard to beat your 22" CRT for gaming when buying a LCD cause its gonna cost a bundle. My 22" CRT from NEC ways a ton too but I put up with it just because it whips everything else when it comes to gaming. DOnt know if posting another forum is allowed, but check this place out http://www.hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?...p?s=&forumid=78 here is a discussion of that dell screen. The 2001 FP. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?s=...15&pagenumber=1 Overall its a good deal but some of the old models had a problem with producing a completely black screen becuase of improper backlight placement, but dell has an excellent return policy heres another glance at some http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?s=...15&pagenumber=1 The 2001FP are about 1000 bucks though at the dell small business store. price is the only problem. THere are some nice 17" lcd's but im not sure of any specific models I can recomend. Nec has always been nice to me though in the CRT range and I think they make some nice Lcd's too. But id hate for you to get a LCd for a considerable amount of money and have it ghost in your fav game So your doing the right thing by asking around
  14. I would think that only good could come from such action.
  15. If he did then i would better understand what he was trying to say. However, if a part runs slightly hotter but still runs with in spec i dont see what the problem would be in relation to a end users overall use. I will say that Intel makes some processors that run as hot as AMD processors and its unfair to say that amd processors overheat or run HOT in general. Even saying they run hott makes it sound like they are in a completly different range of temps from a p4. They are not. Again i think they produce similiar amounts of heat. This is why newer heatsinks can be used on both Intel and Amd platforms. They are close in heat production.
  16. Bump till someone says they joined a team
  17. Awsome thats the power supply my brother has in his full tower. Its been running about a year and works fine. I had to replace the DOA one with a PC Power & Cooling 350 watter and was very pleased.
  18. Sweet case man. I have a silver one a lil like that one. Its the exact same on the inside as that one but the front is a lil different. The only thing bad about mine is the powersupply that came with it was DOA. Nice case though bl00 is always nice cant believe newegg would do that though. They hardly ever make a mistake that ive ever heard of.
  19. Just cleaned up my pals wires. Heres what a lil work made it look like.
  20. Since ive not tried to use linux yet i cant really provide an info of my own but i was gonna use this link to help me through. http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/linux/ Tech TV is a great channel for anyone by the way. Even the Computer know it alls.
  21. Sweet not bad at all. Have u tried running AA or AF settings while playing games. I love the way quake 3 looks @ 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 16xAF on thats still a sweet looking game after all these years. It has scaled wonderfully. Hopefully id's DOOM 3 will do the same try the highest settings in games at a high resolution and enjoy the power that is the 9800XT
  22. " Does it overheat like other AMD cpus do though? Thats why I went back with p4..... honestly. " Really have no clue what your talking about there? If its overheating then that means it wont work right>? Well then ive never had an AMD cpu overheat or seen one for that matter. I use a 1.2GHz thunderbird, 2000+ palimino @1.84, a 2500+ barton @2.2GHz, a 2600+ thoroughbred A, and a barton 3000+ @ 2.2Ghz. THEy all run all 100% CPU usage all the time becuase i run F@H and none of them have ever had problems as a result of overheating. That along with the fact that I know 5 buddies of mine that also all run Different amd types and speeds of processors without any problems relating to heat. So that about 15 amd processors and none of them have a problem with heat. Some have been running for almost 3 years. So i dont know where your going with the whole amd overheating thing. As for the memory i think the non FX 64bit amd processors still require registered ram, but not Error checking ram(ECC) like riz stated. http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Develo...%5e9513,00.html but i think you can run ecc if you feel the need for some reason.
  23. My new years resolution is to get as good with a linux distro as I am with Windows. The distro im gonna use is gentoo.(Jentoo) http://www.gentoo.org/
