  1. 1) I can't speak for the rest of the Christians in this world, but the fact (I should say idea since it's not proven) that we've never been contacted by another race or species from outer space, and we have NOTHING after 20,000 years (millions if you're an evolutionist) to prove another species exists.....that idea just proves to me even more that there is a God out there. Because it just shows how impossible it would be for this 1 tiny planet in all this unending space to just happen on accident. 2) I accept Christianity itself wholly, however there are MANY (countless) differences in the beliefs. We all agree on the base belief (which is the whole thing to do with Jesus), but there are SOOOO many different little beliefs that it's impossible to count them. Example: someone of the Baptist denomination attends church on sunday and believes sunday is the sabbath (Lords day for prayer and worship specifically), whereas a Seventh Day Adventist believes the sabbath is on saturday. Is that something that matters really? No, but it's still something that separates us. (there are some more complicated things I was going to use as examples, but then we would have gotten into a completely different discussion) 3) The Bible is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. Old Testament was written before Jesus and was made for the Isrealites and had laws for them (old covenant). The New Testament was written after Christ's death and consists of 4 books about his life (the gospels) and alot of letters written to the early Christians by apostles and disciples of Jesus.... Keep asking man
  2. see, I never understood this. How can any of us POSSIBLY know and understand what a supreme being SHOULD do. Who are we to say he needs to work in this way or that way? That's the point of a supreme being, that he's above us. So whatever he does, it's what he does....that's that. We have no say. You say "if" there is a god than that is how he should act. Well guess what, "if" there is a "should" then there is a god....(of some type). Think about that. If there is a right or wrong answer, then there is a right or wrong. If there is a right or wrong, then someone had to say what was right and what was wrong. If someone said there was a right and wrong, it had to be someone who has the ability to decide for all of mankind, otherwise, what's right for you isn't right for me. So since it's someone who has the ability to decide for mankind, it's most likely not a man, since no man has ever or will ever have that power. (and it would have had to be in the past since we've already established (to a degree(wow a parenthesis inside a parenthesis, inside a parenthesis)) what right and wrong is) Since it was't a man who decided upon this absolute right and wrong, then it must have been some other sentient species. Since there is no other proven sentient species in the universe, I'm going to assume it's got to be a supreme being. (you could take this another direction and go with advanced alien societies if you want) Since there is a supreme being who was around for the first man to decide what was right and what was wrong for him, he is probably still here today (since he's supreme) and has the ability to choose right and wrong for us still. Since this supreme being has the power to choose right and wrong for all mankind for all time, I'm going to assume that what he says is correct and the way things "should" be done. Since what he says is right and "should" be done in the way he says it, since he says "this is how you get to Heaven", well guess what.....that's how you get to Heaven. maybe the reason it's not up to us to decide who gets into heaven and how is because we can't handle it. Do you ever have trouble deciding what to order at a restaraunt? Think about humans having control over the entire universe. Now tell me THAT wouldn't be hell....
  3. my mother, (I gotta explain this one) she once had some potting soil in a bag on the porch and it broke open, a few weeks later, a pot plant was there, we have no clue how it got there, however we do live in a crappy city in the country that is known for it's drug content and drug farms (specifically Crystal Meth, but also weed) if she ever saw that she'd kill me.........
  4. I'm saying "wow" to how pathetically corny Zaps joke was............ wow..........

    LOTR preview

I've tried to read the books Vandread, but I always get bored in the middle of the second book.....which is odd because I've been reading fantasy books since I was 6.......I LOVE fantasy..... I think Tolkien was an amazing writer and story creator, he just wasn't a story teller..... and about that AI program, that thing is SWEET.... it's called Massive and all they do is create 2 armies of cgi monsters (by pointing and clicking basically) and then they hit play and they create their own battles and fight and use strategy and teamwork..... that would just be awesome to see happen...
  6. *this must be said* I'm interested in your religion Orbital, so I'm going to ask some questions......these questions being asked in the same state of mind as you asked yours (which is to learn)..... so 1. Explain once again what exactly the purpose of of Hinduism is. (like the purpose of Christianity is to get to Heaven and Honor God) 2. Are all Hindu in agreement on the religion or do they have "denominations" (groups with variances in belief) 3. Do you believe that a god exists? And if so do you believe he (or them) created the universe? I'll think of more later I'm sure
  7. I think the reason this common misconception comes around is because there are so man ppl in this world who say they're Christian, and think they're Christian even but have NO CLUE what it's really about....... the fact of the matter is.........you can tell a true Christian by his actions..... (not saying non-Christians can't act like us) If someone says they're a Christian and they turn around and cuss someone out or steal or other "bad" things (constantly cause honestly we screw up too), then they don't really have Jesus in their heart.
  8. mmm.....slightly gelatinated butter......
  9. Orbital, on the hell thing, I'm not sure how we can deserve hell......I find that difficult to comprehend also. But if you were an all powerful god who made a species just so you could share your love and then that species turned on you in pretty much every way possible...........how would you feel? and I've heard ppl say that God doesn't have feelings, but I'm positive he does, because we're made in his image, so anything we feel, he is capable of feeling, at least when it comes to the base emotions like hate, love, joy, anger.....those things.
  10. how could someone actually deserve an eternity of paradise? What could you do that is worth that? (just questions....) yes actually, I'm a complete moron and left that out........but the thing is that the actions will follow the heart. If someone truely believes in Jesus then they will want nothing else but to repent of their sins, which is something you need to do to go to Heaven. A man who isn't sorry for what he did won't go..... that's what it comes down to altogether.................you won't see an evil Christian (at least not a true one). You will see some mess up, but any Christian that REALLY knows and believes, will show Gods love to all. Sure we mess up and show anger and hatred (like I showed you anger the other night) but I know I shouldn't have said that and I truely do feel sorry for acting that way toward you. So yeah, that's the only thing we can do to "earn" our way to Heaven, repent and stand ready to submit.....and give in to what God wants which is to believe in his son....
  11. I completely agree with Orbital that we should at least know why we don't believe in someone else's relgion........ which is something I've not done well at all in my life......... I do however know that the love and peace and joy I've felt with Jesus Christ makes me wanna stay right where I am........ I would like to learn more about your religion also orbital, you're Hindu right? (complete side note, I wish I was Indian, those ppl are some SMART PPL!)
  12. also, on the "how can you tell someone if they're wrong" I can't..............but I can point them toward the laws that God has laid out for us........ Orbitz, I recommend you read "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis..........he has some amazing viewpoints in there that rocked my mind after growing up my entire life as a Christian....
  13. Orbital, you've gotta be the most PC guy I know........you're always apologizing anyway........ we don't view you as a lower life form any more than I view someone who doesn't understand how to code in VB.Net as a moron (which is to say I don't)............it's just that we've been given understanding before you........ I really don't wanna say this............................... The reason you're going to Hell is because you refuse to accept Jesus as the Son of God. Like we've said, the ONLY thing you will EVER do in this life to get yourself into Heaven, is accept Christ........... how you live life (whether you're good or bad) isn't going to change a thing......that's why Christ died for our sins, because we can't earn our way into Heaven.......think about it, how could we POSSIBLY be such a nice person in this life and help SOOO many old ladies across the street that we actually DESERVE an eternity (think about that word......ETERNITY) in complete and utter paradise? How can I buy my way into utopia?
  14. ok, here's the deal............... no matter what I say here I'm going to be seen as a self-righteous, pretentious punk who hates everyone.........so I'll just say what the answers are.....no hate in any of them..... First I must state that, because I believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God put here on earth to die for my sins so that I would be allowed in Heaven (because nothing I can EVER do will earn me a place in heaven), because of this, I agree with what the Bible says, I think there are things in there that confuse me but I don't think that because I don't understand them means they're wrong. now onto the answers..... 1. People who don't believe Jesus Christ was the son of God (at least ppl that have heard it told) and do not accept him as that, are hellbound because they've chosen to reject Christ. (now ppl who've never heard about him, that's another tale altogether) 2. the phrase "be saved" does imply that someone is lost, and it has become something said by rote too often. But what it really means is, to understand that Christ is the son of God and that he died for your sins to pay your way to heaven. That's the gist of it.... 3. No Christianity is not accepting of other religions, and I don't see why they should be. I seriously don't see why ANY religion is accepting of another. (no offense to anyone here) If you say you believe in something with your whole heart and have the faith that it's true, why in the world would you accept something that disagrees with what you've said you believe in? I couldn't possibly say "I'm a Christian and I believe that Christ died for me....etc." and turn around and say, but you could be right too. Because that would mean that I really DIDN'T believe what I said. My 100% faith in Christianity leads me to reject other religions as true, basically because they go against what I believe. I can't possibly TRUELY believe in Christianity and then say that I could be wrong......that would go against the term BELIEF......and FAITH.... Orbital, I'm glad you want to expand your knowledge and learn about Christianity, I just hope that I don't drive you away by professing my beliefs. I do not believe in your religion as correct. I think you are wrong. That's that. But it doesn't mean I can't accept you as a person (in fact I think you are a great guy who is kinder than alot of Christians I know). Just know that I don't hate you (and I don't hate your religion) I just don't agree with your beliefs................... and on the topic of homosexuality, I said I didn't hate homosexuals, just don't like what they do. I don't hate alchoholics, but I don't like what they do....in fact my high school mentor (a man who means ALOT to me) told me that he's happy a year ago, and I still talk to him and consider him a great friend, I just don' t like his sexual preference. And I told him that the first time we talked about it, I said "I think you're wrong and you are distorting some views, and that's that, I'll never mention it again if you don't want me to" and I haven't to this day, he knows how I feel........that's all that matters I guess....
  15. to DoD's questions 1) I haven't taken the time to look at this one.....I'll get back to ya.... 2) the 2 different accounts are pretty explainable, one was made by a man who was there at the time (not in the exact place, just in the city) and another was made by a man who wasn't around and didn't write it till probably 10+ years later. Paul wrote the second one (in Acts) saying Judas bought a field with the money, whereas Matthew says Judas gave the money back and the priests bought a field with it. So it could be that Paul was writing what he thought happened, or he could have even had a sarcastic tone that we can't get from the text, because most likely everyone who read what he said, knew what happened to Judas. So maybe he was just making a joke....... Even though the Bible is inspired by God, it's still written by individual men, meaning that each book will have the flavor of that writer.
  16. shoot away man, maybe I'll be able to dodge the bullets....
  17. so wait, hambones an entire clan of ppl? like he has multiple personalities? give it up, I'd like to see anything enjoyable......just got my cs updated to 1.5 last night, and I'm telling ya, those bots are easy on 1.5, cause they jump too often.... I need real ppl.......
  18. 1. what Zweih said.....2 cities full of evil and God said, show me 10 righteous men and I'll save em. I think he even went down to 1 righteous man and still couldn't be found. So they died..... *younger readers, stop reading* 2. I honestly don't know how ppl can consider homosexuality natural. Let's look at it from a completely scientific point of view and not a religious point of view. What does it take to reproduce our species? It takes sexual interaction between a man and a woman. Scientifically speaking, a man is physically designed to interact with a woman. We are both respectively built (be it through creation or evolution) to combine perfectly to reproduce the species. Now the fact that this is considered fun is just a bonus I guess. So on that note (that we are built for it) why in the world would it be natural to have intercourse with something you aren't designed to reproduce with? If someone were to have sex with a monkey, ppl would consider it sick because it's not natural. So why am I supposed to think of homosexual sex in any way besides unnatural and sick? That's my 2 cents, not saying I hate homosexuals.....I just don't like what they do.... *moderators, feel free to edit this if you found it offensive.* 3. not sure about this one either Orbital. Unless you mean when God turned that female into a pillar of salt? and he did that because she did what he told her not to, which was look back at Soddom and Gamorra (Soddom specifically I believe) as they were being destroyed. She was regretting what God was making her leave and God said "BAM!!" and she was salt.... 4. Water to wine, was when Jesus did his first miracle (I think) at a wedding and turned some water into wine because they were running out. Now like all his stuff it was more that it seemed. It appears as if Jesus just turned some water to wine, poof; miracle. But if you read the account deeper you'll realize that it was a lesson in obedience. Jesus was asked by his mother to do this because it was her friends wedding (or something) and they were running out of wine and she didn't want her friends wedding to be ruined. So when the father of the bride(groom?) asked for more wine, Jesus told the servants to draw water from a large barrel and take it to the guy who wanted wine (important man at this particular wedding). Now would you wanna take some water to the guy in charge when he asks for wine? Well the servants did it anyway cause Jesus was a respected guy, and AFTER they obeyed and took the water to the man, it turned to wine. The servants drew out water and took it to him and discovered it had become wine. (This was courtesy of Max Lucado, not my own discovery) on the subject of drinking being wrong, the Bible says don't partake of strong drink and that our body is a temple so care for it. Todays wine, even by the standards of that time, isn't considered strong, and is even considered healthy to a degree. So no Jesus wasn't aiding those ppl in getting toasted off their rockers....he was just helping in a celebration of a holy affair (marriage). I personally have never had a drop of alchohol in my life(apart from cough medicine) and don't ever plan on it because I don't see the point. hope we answered those questions well......any more?
  19. first off the 118mb option isn't an option on a 26.4 connection I only play against bots, but I want to have a second version of CS so I can watch demos and stuff, cause I enjoy that on that note, if anyone has any good demos they'd like to upload somewhere go for it cause I enjoy watching them in my spare time that's how sick my addiction has become, I'll watch demos just so I can see HUMANS playing CS....... I need broadband
  20. applause for DJ all around his ub3r l337n355
  21. that's what I was talking about..... and I'm sorry I came across as starting a flame match, I wasn't trying to, I was just a little frustrated. It seems as if lately I've been treated like a moron ALOT for believing in Jesus Christ..........and I'm getting a little tired of it. I'm supposed to be acceptable of all religions and creeds yet I get mocked for believing mine..... I'm not angry or trying to insult anyone here.....sorry I came across that way
  22. well played uber...........I was just in a bad mood last night, I'll shut my cakehole
