  1. First and foremost, I am an Onslaught player, not a DM or CTF player. Everything I truly like about UT2K4 was contained in that game style. UT3 looks great and brought back some nice death match features. Those are the only good things I can say about it. Let's start at the beginning with the server browser. 1. There is no way to designate and browse favorite servers. 2. There is no way to designate and browse for friends online. 3. There is no way to connect to a specific IP by cut and paste. Vehicles. Based on what is available in the demo. The focus of everything has changed from being anti-vehicle to being anti-personal with some curious exceptions. 1.Scorpion With the removal of the sticky rope. It can no longer function as anti-manta. 2. Hellbender. With the change in the rear turret from a charge and fire to straight fire and the decrease in power it is no longer effective against vehicles unless they are slow. 3. Goliath. Splash damage range has be severely reduced. from playing the VCTF map you pretty much have to directly hit something in order to really damage it. 4. Manta. Is pretty much unchanged with the exception that it is now a bigger vehicle and easier to hit. Rumor has it that if you crouch it can't run you over but I have been unable to prove that. 5. Raptor. Seems unchanged. 6. SPMA. Seems to be slower, however with an increased range. Probably a reasonable trade off. My biggest complaint with the vehicles is that they removed the scroll wheel zoom function and the first person view.
  2. Epic's suggestions for fixing problems... http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=578532
  3. Here's the deal. Apparently when Epic games says the demo *only* works with Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 they mean *exactly* that. Windows XP SP3? Sorry. SP1? No idea... Linux was already out of the picture for the demo. Windows XP Server 2003 (which just about every gaming server provider runs unless Linux)? Nope. Bottom line is that until Epic patches the demo to allow for Windows XP Server 2003 to run, everyone who wants a dedicated server is essentially dead in the water. And no, not many happy campers out there. I'll let you know if/when we get rolling. Sorry kids. -Fk
  4. The demo is here - thread renamed to reflect initial comments. -Fk
  5. As DA pointed out in another thread, official word just came down. So this Thursday is it pretty much for our Last Call. We'll swing one round per map or switch to two point wins - or just let it rip if the competition is good. Any maps you want up now is the time. EDIT: Friday?!? -Fk
  6. BU Forums Posted this info. It's official via a press release. Midway and Epic today announced the minimum and recommended system requirements for the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3, the highly anticipated first-person shooter scheduled for release in November 2007. Please see below for all information regarding these requirements along with newly released screenshots from the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3. 7. I saw this today on TG Daily. Thought you might be interested. linky So would this be just the console side, or console and the PC? Anyone heard anything?
  8. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25786.html
  9. http://kotaku.com/gaming/tgs07/unreal-tour...ions-303227.php Not much, but interesting commentary/comparison by one who has played both UT3 and Halo3. Granted UT3 is on PS3, but that is pretty close to compy as far as experience goes.
  10. http://unrealtournament3.com/ Flashy graphics but no new data. Edit: Hold the phone! Check out the new audio!
  11. Anyone read/heard anything about a possible date for demo release?
  12. This is prolly old, but I saw it today and hadnt seen it here before. Thought I'd post it up - looks sweet! linky
  13. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24262.html http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24281.html Developer for UT3 walks through some vehicles, etc. 2 parts. VCTF on PS3 first, Warfare (Torlan) in part 2. Worth it. The Nightshade (invisible Necris vehicle) is *only* defensive with the deployables - has no offensive weapons. However, the spider mines it plants can be guided with the avril guide beam by folks on foot - and the spider mines *book* - thank god they are only avail through that vehicle. Scorps now have a boost mode (think super mario cart) - that's nice. -Fk
  14. A bit dark but otherwise fine. Scavenger = Metroid ball of doom vehicle. See the deployable slow volume in action. See nodes built. See orb used. DL the 150 meg file or just watch the streaming version http://files.filefront.com/UT3+GC07MPG/;84...;/fileinfo.html -Fk
  15. http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=576079 There it is, the game-type essentially laid out. You start out with your base *and* primary node already good to go. Read the post and followups for the low down --------------------------------------------------------- http://ih.gamerscoalition.com/ut/TorlanII.AVI At the German Games Convention where all this new stuff is coming from, Midway has prohibited pictures (except of the exterior of the booths, not the nougat-filled interior) and also prohibited cam stuff. At least until someone snuck a cell phone vid. Torlan II in play. Hoverboards go remarkably fast all things considered. I bet we can still ride on the spines of the manta - nice touch with the flaps at the rear of each paddle. That water looks amazing (esp when the manta gets capped) Maps are big! It may not be our UT2K4 and Onslaught but it does look like a hell of a lot of fun -Fk
  16. http://ih.gamerscoalition.com/ut/comiccon_ut3.zip Deathmatch so no vehicles but if you finally wanted to see something resembling weapon speed and foot movement - here it is. Shockballs *implode* pulling debris into themselves - neat! 28 meg zip containing an mp4 vid file, so quicktime or whatever is needed to view Or lesser quality here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5LiBpGnLbE -Fk
  17. Teams of 6 in Onslaught seems like a good number for TWL matches. I don't know who came up with it but it seems to work. What about Warfare? It may not be the case, but it sounds like it could demand a more players with the side quests. Any ideaz what the player count should be on the average map for a good time? For best playability I think a sever should max out at 16-18 in ONS but who knows more for Warefare? Or am I just imagining the maps being that much larger?
  18. New footage and bit more info. Same video interview in 2 formats. Higher quality WMVs Google Video version The Krall looks wicked on the hoverboard in Part 4.
  19. 14 minute-ish Jeff Morris interview in a hotel corridor by a German mag (interview is in English). A lot of the same talking points but still entertaining for how amped Morris is. - Game is "finished", just polishing now. - Interesting point in how the mods being allowed on the PS3 is in another sense a gateway for folks looking to get into console development as one would not need a 10k developer's kit to do it - make the mod on the pc, put it on a mem stick, pop it in the PS3. PS3 mod developers would have to deal with the same constraints of system mem, textures, framerates, etc. that all other PS3 developers have to deal with. - You got the pipes on teh interwebs, and a quad core server, you could pull off 32 v 32 matches online (PC) - otherwise 12 v 12 is the designed spec. - Oddly enough, some of the ONS maps for UT2004 were made *before* they had developed ONS... Not that way now of course... - Sounds like a Torlan rebuild is in. (Look back to some of the GDC stuff from 2006 for rough footage of a Torlan 2) - Tether your hoverboards to a raptor! Wheee - The usual are on the table for post release bonus packs, including new vehicles - nothing ruled out - but there wil lbe bonus packs http://trailer.onlinewelten.com/videos,id1...eff_morris.html Be warned - the site is teeming with additional flash nonsense and embedded hot linked ad words and crap. Just don't move your mouse too much -Fk
  20. http://www.beyondunreal.com/content/articles/198_1.php I greatly worry about the "one orb per team" bit - granted, we have no idea what is really going on but I keep getting visions of Larry the DBag, amateur game killer, grabbing mister one and only orb and going on a site seeing trip somewhere on the map. Wish that question was asked... -Fk
  21. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/22157.html Best let the thing load up before starting the stream. I think there is some new footage in there but it may just be all from the new trailer - in any case what is there is smooth and easy to see - nice stuff. -Fk EDIT: Mix of the new E3 trailer footage and the OXM stuff that never made it onto the web - so some new stuff there.
  22. Just out of curiosity... how much do you have set aside for an upgrade? I'm not going to go really crazy, but I have about $1500 set aside for a new mobo/proc/videocard/ram. /Edit: make that $1600 when adding the GC membership too.
  23. http://e3.gamespot.com/live.html?tag=event_nav;live That will be the Midway stage demo - not online yet - but will be. Other news is being posted to various games sites but many of the sites are being hammered with all the E3 interest traffic 1) No more paddle rides on the manta. Jump on a wing, you die. No word if you can jump on the spine and live. 2) Adrenaline is out but apparently there will be "drops" after certain events or kills - drop a darkwalker, get a pickup for an any weapon instagib (one time). Stuff like that. -Fk
