Mad Bean May 11, 2005 Share Mad Bean Member May 11, 2005 I just purchased a laptop from a guy I work with. It is a HP ze5170. I bought it knowing that it has a bad hard drive, so I was able to pick it up very cheap. The one HD that is in is an IBM 40GB 4200 rpm serial ATA-100 2.5". My question to you guys is which do I need to replace it? I was browsing Newegg and see ATA-6 and serial ATA-150. Will these work? I was looking to replace it with these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144377 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822153014 According to Western Digital and Fujitsu's web site, both are compatible with serial ATA-100. Let me know if I'm on the right track.
Preacher May 11, 2005 Share Preacher Member May 11, 2005 (edited) well first of all it's not Serial ATA it's just ATA because they work on the IDE standard, but they should work if the manufacturer says so. Go with the cheaper one, as long as the manufacturer says it will be compatable. Edited May 11, 2005 by Preacher

Guest zerodamage May 11, 2005 Share Guest zerodamage Guests May 11, 2005 Yeah, I tried to help bean out and typically I go through the manufacturer for a replacement HDD or I go with one that says it is compatible with that model Laptop. IN this case, there is no such information available and it may not work. I hope one of these work and I would also use Zipzoomfly if you order since they seem to be surpassing newegg in price and quality of service as of late.
