Nick Soapdish June 16, 2006 Share Nick Soapdish Member June 16, 2006 so i'm thinking of buying a domain name in my name, first and last, in order to toss up resume, professional stuff, and fun items. i like making webpages as a hobby and usually i use frontapge as a solid base and add code here or there as i see fit. what are some good deals/companies/servers to buy a name from and what packages would be good? i have all the software and know how and email accounts so basically i just need a page that would be searched under google or yahoo and would be cheap and allow me to toss my frontpage html on it. suggestions? nut June 16, 2006 Share nut Member June 16, 2006 got my domain and hosting at Go Daddy.com they have nice packages... like you pay 2 bucks for the domain and like 6 for hosting... in 1 package... so they both cost together 10 bucks... which is year long.. then you can "put" your files off of dreamweaver... using your hosting password.. once you have bought all the domain and the hosting do this Example: ftp://navygo.net (my website) then the username and password comes up you type it in... and you have acsess.. took me a while to get it but it works.. make sure your index page is in the root folder or it wont work.. if you dont get the meta info... appalachian_fox June 16, 2006 Share appalachian_fox Member June 16, 2006 http://www.godaddy.com/ Registration is pretty cheap, hosting is as well and I have never had a bad experience / heard a bad thing about them. http://www.doteasy.com/ Free hosting with registration, but I believe the registration is more expensive than GoDaddy's registration. Also, sketchy on service: In general fine, but with free hosting you get what you pay for. Also, no SSL on the webmail. I'm sure there are plenty of other suggestions, but that's where I'd start for a casual resume-poster.
mrX June 18, 2006 Share mrX GC Alumni June 18, 2006 I use godaddy also. Got five different urls, 4 pointing to a single host, and one pointing to one of their free hosts. I was paying monthly for hosting and a dedicated IP. They've even called me a few times about things, just to see how I liked it. Last time they called I asked about paying for a year in advance and was offered some deal that saved me like $2/month, which brings my total for hosting to $5/month. I got the following urls: http://reynardlaw.com http://jdrlaw.com http://ohiotrafficlawyer.com http://jeffreynard.com And this one on their free hosting (which is ad supported): http://thereynards.com Gotta say it was very easy to set up and maintain, and they offer quite a few options for the money.
