flux November 25, 2009 Share flux Member November 25, 2009 Alright so it turns out my motherboard took a dump on me. So long story short; I'm building another computer. My budget is no more than $500 bucks. I'm re-using my case and my cd drive. Take a look and let me know what you think or if you have any of this stuff; let me know what you think of it. Or if you know of something better; let me know also. Here we go: Motherboard/CPU Combo: ASUS Motherboard M4A785-M / AMD Phenom II X4 3.0GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.293341 Video Card: PNY Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133246&Tpk=PNY%20Nvidia%20GeForce%209800GTX Power Supply: Apevia Iceberg ATX-IB680-BL 680W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148030&cm_re=680W_power_supply-_-17-148-030-_-Product RAM: G.Skill 1GB 240 Pin DDR2 SDRAM PC6400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231085&cm_re=G.Skill_1GB_240_Pin_DDR2_SDRAM_PC6400-_-20-231-085-_-Product Let me know what you guys think and if I'm forgetting anything too. Also my case is green with blue lights so that's why I went with the green and blue theme.
dragonfly November 26, 2009 Share dragonfly Member November 26, 2009 If you could find the socket LGA775 motherboard for under $100 (which I'm sure you can - try gigabyte or asus) then you can get an E5200 and overclock it quite nicely (plus $15-25 for a better heatsink). Save some monies there too if need be. Do you ever overclock? What kinds of games do you play? What are you going to be using the pc for?
samurai nightling November 26, 2009 Share samurai nightling Member November 26, 2009 Are you re-using your harddrive also? You forgot to either mention that or put one in the list of parts to buy. And what operating system will you have? 1GB of ram won't really be that sufficient to run Vista or Win7 i don't think.
bushwack November 26, 2009 Share bushwack Member November 26, 2009 What games do you play again? That 9800gtx video card is getting a little dated for a new build. If your budget limited this a gts 250 would perform slightly better at a lower price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133266 If it was me I would spend a little more dough and get at least a GTX 260. I just picked up a E5200 for $42.98 after shipping, great deal if your going to overclock and not worried about virtualization in Win7 Pro. Not much of a boost over my old E2160 @ 3.2 but I need a CPU for my HTPC. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DCNQ1O?tag=at055-20&ref=dynamitedata.com Edited November 28, 2009 by bushwack
flux December 5, 2009 Author Share flux Member December 5, 2009 I am going to re use my HD. I just bought a new 500 GB about 2 weeks ago. I don't really ever overclock so I wasn't too sure on all that. I am also just going to be playing CS and surfing the net and things like that and as well as music too. I'm willing to spend more money for a better video card since I don't want to have any problems running CS. I appreciate all of the help as well. I will be checking back in here soon. I just got a new job so I've been working like crazy lately.
