  1. Upon playing fy_iceworld2002 and noticing the realistic looking ice covering the floor of the map, I was reminded of a section in one of the HL single player missions either in Half Life, Opposing Force or Blue Shift, where the player has to run through a freezer. The floor is very slippery making movement difficult. I looked through the amx commands and saw that one of the cvars is sv_friction and it's default value is 4. When I go into the server, however, and also on LAN, and change the sv_friction value to 2, it changes, but then immediately reverts back to 4. Is there a way to change it? Imagine slipping all over a map trying to fire your ak at someone. Run, slide, hit wall, stop, fire, run, slide, hit person, hit wall, stop, fire, run...
  2. I think we should run Half Life for a full day. 24 hours of your HL map we played at the LAN party.
  3. sure, if you want to believe that.... no one knows, those who were around are all dead now. but then, how do you know we didn't fight the civil war with m-16's and tanks? who says America hasn't been a country as long as France has been one? Is the Bible a historically accurate book? I believe it is. Historically and scientifically it's never been proven wrong.
  4. lol all killer, Nitemare and I play over on the girlz clan server sometimes too. fun place just to hang out and kill n00bs. ....wait...trop's full of n00bs... eh, well, fun to hear girls on the mic's.
  5. one problem with notebooks (probably CS won't cause this) is that when they're running games, they get so hot that you can't use the keyboard. now, that was running UT2003 on an alienware (man i want one of those) area 51 laptop, and also on a top of the line dell notebook. according to Computer Gaming World, the notebooks run Quake 3 at 100 fps, and UT2003 at around 32 fps. I imagine CS would run at 100. Quake 3's a bit more demanding, if I'm not mistaken. Keep in mind, those are with top notch systems. For $200 be happy with 30 fps.
  6. eh, yeah, i shouldn't use the nuke when i got noclipping on, but hey, when rolldice is on, who really plays seriously?? huh? if you're thinkin about stats when rolldice is on and we're doin aim_usp, you need to change servers.
  7. lol, I like coldplay, but when i saw the yellow video i was like "wth!?!"

    rap #2

I listen to Gangster rap. I like it. Snoop Dog, Dre, Bone Thugs, I like all them real G's. Like MP Stinger said, west coast for lizzife. However, I also listen to a lot of classic rock. Big band records are often found spinning on my record player. I'm in a band that plays modern Christian rock. Yet when we're goofin off in practice we end up playing The Cars,, Nirvana, Metallica, Queen and other stuff. I find nothing more relaxing than sitting back in a comfortable chair, with the lights low, and turning up a good jazz album. Just recently I went with my fiance' to a Seether, Socialburn and Ra concert. That's some pretty hard stuff, but I enjoyed it. The point is, I enjoy all types of music depending on my mood. Music is an expression of the soul. If one's soul is expressing joy, then perhaps they would be found worshiping. A soul who has gone through much pain over the course of their life would likely be playing some grunge/hard rock, or even country. Imagined pain on an otherwise spoon-fed life, and you get modern heavy metal. No pain on a still spoon-fed life, living carefree and being sheltered from the world - modern pop. True musical expression is found in blues, jazz and classical. In my opinion those three types are the pure, unfettered musical release of the soul's emotions. A jazz solo played from the heart, not the page, is amazing to listen to. Gangster rap I find interesting because it's the musical story of the rapper's life. At least the rap I like is. I'm an old school guy, I don't do Jay Z and P Diddy. They're fake, just makin it up to sell records. NWA is where it's at. The kind of rap that Dr Dre and Eazy E had. Not "My crew could beat up your crew," but instead "My crew is on it's way to beat down your crew." And you knew they'd do it too. And beyond that you have the artists themsleves. Snoop Dog is currently doing a lot for his Long Beach, CA community. He's got a program for young kids to keep them from gangbangin. His rap crew Tha Eastsidaz took a big shot in one gang, and a bigshot in the opposing gang, and brought them together with himself and they form a threesome. It got the two gangs to stop fighting and start livin with each other. Tupac was educated at one of the best acting schools in the US, and was on his way to becoming the best black, male actor we'd ever seen. He would have been Shaft if he would have lived to make it. (that's film directors talking, not me) Tupac worked harder than most artists too. He would often be late to shooting his movies friends (directors) said. They later found out it was because every minute he wasn't shooting movies (he made about 5 within a few years. the one I've seen is pretty good) he was at the studio recording. The amount of music Pac put down on tape is amazing. He wasn't a true gangster, either. But he worked hard at what he did. Don't knock Gangster rap just because you don't like it. It's the expressions of their culture. Just as blues or jazz musicians express their culture. It's all how one sees the world they live in, and how they choose to share it with others. If you don't like it, listen to something more your style. MUSIC IS NOT A POLITICAL ISSUE! NEVER, NEVER make music a political issue. You are taking an artist's worldview and telling them they can't see things that way. No one has that right.
  9. just found that game I was talking about: www.starkingdoms.com great fun, got some new features added that should make it better. if any of ya decide to try it, my kingdom is called "Old Time" and I'm in sector 5:38, send me a message.
  10. I'm there...http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=red_flag_yellow_star not much to this game, i played a game awhile ago called Starkingdoms, had a lot more, building armies, and goin to war and stuff....let me see if i can find it again, closed down for awhile, may be back up.... oh, forgot about this, it's a game made by a guy I used to play Starkingdoms with. pretty cool, a bit more involved than the nationstates one. I'm giving it a try. http://www.memtec-online.com/game/MWM/
  11. Alright, I'm stepping out on a shakey limb and making the assumption that most of you have played a few maps that you didn't get when you downloaded CS. They're commonly called "3rd party" maps. We have a few on [Mmmm]tropolis. As we refine our map list and map cycles to better suit you all, I want to know what some of your favorite 3rd party maps are. Or perhaps even some packaged maps that never get played anymore (cs_militia, de_rotterdam, etc). Don't throw out maps that you've played once or twice, give us some maps that you know are popular, maps that other people have on their systems. I want maps that most people have and don't play much, however if the server were to switch to it, they'd stick around and enjoy themselves. And, if you have a favorite map that isn't very popular, but you think it's good enough to become popular, throw it out too.
  12. lol, well, that wasn't Nite.... computer was just logged in as him. It's actually Word and his brother Stealth. Word just doesn't know his name and password to change it. He's sorry about the mix-up.

    Band trip!

Won't be around this weekend (even if i was the computer's busted...so no CS anyway) due to a retreat I'm going on. I'm in a late high-school/college/young adult Christian ministry that calls themselves Narrow Road. (www.narrowroad.org) I'm the drummer for the band. This weekend the church we all attend is taking their annual youth group trip to a Bible camp up in northwest Iowa, our band is providing the music for their worship times. I always had fun on those retreats when I was younger, they got this great tobogan (how do you spell that word?!) run that shoots you out onto the lake, assuming it's frozen, and a rock climbing wall that I gotta try this year. So anyway, that's what's going on in my corner of the world. I don't really want to go, but the band needs a drummer, so I must go.
  14. never played de_52Leon, but I'd like it added because I know it's a quality map. If not that, de_volare or de_deep6. as_highrise is a load of fun too.
  15. I'm having a huge problem with my computer. After being off for more than 20 minutes, it takes many tries for it to start. I have to start it, then restart it again and again for it to finally "catch" and open windows. and after that it usually reboots on its own a couple times before becoming "stable" and letting me begin to use the computer. Then at random points in my computer use, the machine either freezes, or reboots on its own. I've found no explanation for this. Sometimes it locks up or reboots when I open up a new window on the internet, when I start a new program, when I do something in a program (say, click on "save" for a picture in photoshop) but often it just randomly reboots. I'll be chatting on AIM or Yahoo with my fiance' or with friends, and the computer will for no reason at all, reboot. Then once it reboots, it takes two or three "self-restarts" to become ready for use again. I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to get my computer started and join prodigious. The farthest I've gotten is to open Counterstrike and get to the main menu. Then it reboots. I vacuumed out the inside of my box, it was real dusty. I've reset the configurations in my CMOS and BIOS to Fail-Safe defaults, Optimized defaults, reset configurations to last known good config. I'm running out of ideas. I believe the problem may be with Windows XP and my hardware. I've got an AMD Athalon 1 GHz, 512 PC133 RAM, 350wt power supply, GeForce2 GTS graphics card, Sound Blaster Live audio (which has known issues with WinXP, but I've got those new drivers). The computer came with Windows ME, and hasn't had this problem since I put XP on, however the problem has gotten much worse these past two days, and I've had XP for a few weeks. Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm going to reformat again and put Windows ME back on when I get a chance. What I wouldn't give for the $2500 to buy an Alienware Area-51 laptop...

    Location?

Whoa, whoa, what's this about havin it at Watchtower's place? That idea sounded good to me! I'd love to see your band play too (bein a musician myself). I'd say crash his house if there's room, or stay at McVey's. Anymore details/possibilities/problems come up yet? Fatty, Mini, Watch????
  17. Naw, lots of good people will come if we call it that. All kinds of good people wantin to beat up on poor n00bs. There's a server out there called "Newbie CS," and it's real popular, and the players are all decent to good, lol.
