He said server reg's LOL! (Everyone else says the opposite but me, I love this guy!)

Is there going to be any overturn on this subject or not? Being that he is a friend of mine, that I have known for a long time, I would like to see if we can work something out and get him unbanned. He's been banned for a month now (at the least) and if all he did to peeve you is say that you "blow" then I would say we should reconsider the ban. He really is a good guy, and as an admin for GC I am putting my neck out there for 1 more chance, and if he gets banned again, I obviously have a lot to lose in the GC community. I would really like to see something come of this, or at least get this matter closed. ***This is of course only my belief, and of course am not permitting ANYONE in the server to mouth off to any admin, including myself. GPU, no need to replace it, stock fan speed is 30%, change it to 50-60 and you'll be fine. And as for artifacting... that is nothing, I've had much worse before.

I was actually talking with a good friend of mine tonight about the same thing. We are gonna talk about it some more tomorrow, on whether to actually go into the stock market or venture into something else. Mainly the economy is so crap, something that wasn't as profitable as the stock market years ago, can now be extremely profitable. I'll really bad at "financial" situations in trying to maximize what I have. But I'll share what I remember tomorrow, and share ideas. As for the stock market, I think it will keep falling for another week or two, but when it starts up, be prepared to jump on it immediately.

Disabled all start-up programs, including av and windows firewall, looked into getting the "hotfix" for windows, but don't really want to go through the hassle of actually getting it. SP2 is giving me no problems at all, the only reason to get SP3 is for the backdoor patches for hackers to get in, which I'm not too worried about. I may try again another day when I feel like troubleshooting for more then a couple of hours. I didn't try the combofix, I did try the cmd prompt stuff, and it did nothing to help.

No Dice, XP is now "worse" then Vista. I reverted back to SP2, waiting for Windows 7 (Maybe they will get it right this time? Fingers crossed, I don't want to buy Apple, or Linux or Unix or anything else ;/)

Yes, under the system tab, Dhcp has a warning on event 1007 and 1003. It never shows up before the SP3 update. Here is what it says for information per Microsoft: *************** Explanation The DHCP Client service on your computer did not receive a response from the DHCP server to the DHCP Discover message within the time limit; therefore your computer's IP address was assumed to be invalid, and the DHCP Client service generated an Automatic Private IP (APIP) address. The failure of the DHCP server to respond could be caused by network connectivity issues, DHCP server or DHCP relay malfunction, firewall issues, or a malfunction of your computer's network interface card or driver. User Action If your computer is connected to the network by cable, confirm that the cable is plugged in. If you have a wireless network connection, confirm that you have a signal and the proper credentials for the wireless network. Your computer's network interface card or driver is not functioning correctly. ****************** I use window's firewall, and onboard NIC from my 780i, and I know my internet is not down. If anyone has any ideas post, I'm going to look more tomorrow, I'm going to bed for now.

How the hell did this thread turn into a Mac thread? You will all die apple boys. As for start-up programs: Drivers (of course), WeatherChannel app, Kaspersky AV, Trillian, Steam. Then after boot, I start Vent, and Winamp. But those have nothing causing an effect on booting. As for registry / defrag. I use Kaspersky, CCleaner, AdAware, and Registry Mechanic every Sunday, plus Disk Cleanup, and Window's Defrag. I guess I could try the 3rd party defrag for giggles, but I doubt that is going to do anything. Computer: EVGA 780i E8400 4Gig Corsair ddr2 800 2 8800GT 512's 700w psu All drivers and Bios are latest and greatest, I even had older drivers back when SP3 came out. I want to think that MAYBE its my router? But I don't know why it would act up on SP3 and not SP2. And please, no more Mac, I will Murdaface you.

So, when SP3 came out months ago, I installed it, and tried to use it, but whenever I booted my computer it would take about 30 seconds to gather my IP. So I said bleep it, and uninstalled SP3 hoping that in the next month or two, they would fix it. Well, I re-installed SP3 today, and I am still having the same problem. When I used to boot under SP2, my internet connection was instant, (I have a bunch of start-up programs) and never had a problem with anything on boot. Now, whenever I boot, it literally takes 20-30 seconds just to get a connection, and all of my start-up programs throw a hissy fit. I'm usually pretty good about troubleshooting problems on computers whether it be a driver issue or an update issue, or I can find the problem online with someone else who found the solution. But this one is beyond me, and I cannot find anything to fix this. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. On another note, I'm thinking about getting Vista x64 and another hard drive just b/c I'm a geek and wanna try out Raid 0. Any help is appreciated!

When you max out the server, instead of only 8 players in it, thats about 2-3x the amount of In/Out bandwidth needed to keep everyone at the same/almost the same point in the game. So you aren't getting In all of the information you need to keep up with everyone. I would take it up with your ISP. As for your config. I see nothing out of the ordinary. I think there are only about 4 commands in that, which actually DO anything to modify the game from default commands. And as Cujo said, this game is more CPU then GPU. The one you have is sufficient enough to get good frames. If it really bothers you that much, turn down reflections to medium, and turn off AA and AF if you are using them. Even HDR for some maps will give you another 20+fps. And, same goes for FPS on 22 vs 8 person server. When you have all of that "extra" movement, your computer has to calculate and output it on your screen, whether they are "on" your screen or not, they are still moving through out the map, taking CPU and taking away from your frames. CSS and Cysis are totally different. You cannot compare them. At All. I have both, and you need totally different computers to play each. Unless you have a beast one like I do. =)

Do you have anything running in the background, good or bad programs alike? Drivers up to date and installed properly? Strong enough power supply? Good internet connection/company? Using any special configurations/autoexec's for cs? What settings are you using? There are so many different reasons you could be getting "low" fps and choke. In Retro, choke and loss are always there, the only way you won't get choke is if you play on a server that is hosted by a top tier server company, not saying retro is on a POS system, because I don't know, but its not top of the line. If I were you, I'd quit looking at the choke/loss, max out your settings to rate 25000 cl_cmdrate 101 and cl_updaterate 101, and just play. (recommended settings for GOOD highspeed internet, preferably cable). Go down the checklist, see if anything sticks out to you! EDIT: Oh, and your frames aren't THAT bad. Cap them at 120 or so, any more is useless. (Inferno is a fps KILLER)

I vote Kaspersky Antivirus, Ad-Aware 2008, CCleaner and Registry Mechanic. I use all 4 every Sunday to make sure my computer is clean. The only programs that I actually NEED to run is CCleaner and RegMech, because Kaspersky blocks just about anything that tries to load onto your computer, and Mozilla Firefox + AdBlock Plus does an amazing job with malware/spyware. Just my 2 pennies.
