    XKCD

Just so ya know ... you should always right click on the image and choose properties, then read his actual title. No clue why he doesn't put that as a caption, but it often adds a new funny to the cartoon.
  2. I don't think he was suggesting I lap my heatsink, just providing more insight. It does definately give more insight into why the thermal compound exists. I always thought (incorrectly) that it helps pull heat out of the CPU, when it seems like its just to fill in defects in the fit between the heatsink and the cpu. Makes sense .... heat sink is already copper, why not fill in the flaws with something thats better than air. Yay, well I imagine this will be all fixed up tonite when I remove the heatsink, clean everything up and reinstall. gg -- Thanks guys!
  3. No, I was referring to the desk. I'm speculating that their is a sufficient source of cool air and that its not just recirculating hot air back into the case.
  4. Yah, I didn't reuse anything from a prev installation. The Zalman fan came with a small jar of their grease which I believe is enough for at least two installations. I also cleaned the old grease off before I put the new stuff on *Edit: Also, the tube was capped up and stored in a cool place for ~ three months.
  5. Yeah, thats the first thing I noticed ... the air coming out of the back is hot. New Video card was installed 2 days prior to the CPU upgrade, with no heat problems and its temp was fine seems fine in the monitor, but I didn't touch it. BTW, whats an HS?
  6. Both fans are spinning. The entire front of the case is just mesh, so I'm thinking it has plenty of airflow. It is enclosed in a desk but the back is open (exhaust) and its definately not sealed in front. Plenty of gaps for the air to flow in. Plus, my machine is built in the same case, with the same fans is in a diff desk exactly the same.
  7. Ahh, and I was concerned I wasn't getting enough on. I'll try that first. I'm all out of that, but I have a whole tube of arctic silver.
  8. Tonight I'm going to try this with the stock cooling? In case I didn't get the grease on right ... ?I'm hoping someone looks at this list and is like WOAH .... your PSU is way too small, or something thats obviously wrong. Otherwise I'll just be tinkering with stupid stuff to see where I screwed up. I'm using the leftover grease from my Zalman fan. Since the original thermal compound that came preapplied is gone now. So I applied a thin coat of the Zalmon stuff with the included brush to both the CPU and the heatsink. Ahh, let me get those for ya.
  9. This is what she had: Athalon 64 X2 3800+ Cooler BIOSTAR TForce 6100 AM2 Corsair 620W PSU Memory (2 of them) In this case This what I added/changed: (So that she could play AudioSurf, a $10.00 game) Athalon 64 X2 6400+ 8800GTS 320MB Now shes got heat issues; it idles at 50 and shuts off when she plays unless I really crank the fans up.

He can be rather obscure at times. As a litmus test, see if you think this one is funny. If not, I'd get that checked out. You can do this one in every 30 times and still have 97% positive feedback.

  12. Lunk .... stop blocking plz!!!
  13. Especially if you buy crap. For my last computer, I built a top-of-the-line circa 2000ish machine in May of 2004. It was obsolete before I even assembled the parts.
  14. Not even a necro post .... imagine that. Happy Bday M2 ..... 2 more years to cheap(er) insurance.
  15. You fail! ..... your too late .... its fixed now
  16. Ahh, I've never noticed that .... plz fix it for me
  17. I dunno what your talking about .... the topic says CSS in it I wanted to post it somewhere where you have to be a GC member to read it, and I posted it outside of the TWL forums, because I figured it'd increase the chance ppl would read it? IDK If you want to move it into the TWL forum, go ahead.
