  1. na, i guess i'll be ok then, its just down at the [H] fourms and over at gamespot they all got like 38c and 40c temps so i was wondering if 47 was really high.
  2. well to put in another fan i'd have to cut into the case... my poor sweet beautiful case, or i'd rather not do that.
  3. my P4 2.8c runs at 47c/116f idle, is that ok? if not how can i lower it. i have 2 intakes in the front, 1 outtake in the back, and a blow hole in the top. i'm also using the stock cooler that came with the processor. and have most of my cables out of the way.
  4. feed it the virgin flesh of a newborn
  5. yeah i disabled them but the system would still freeze when i tried to run a test and wouldnt reconize the hardware, then i saw that my RAID controler was on (im not using a raid setup) so i turn that off and it still didnt work. so i've reloaded XP and poof everything is fine, the only thing i've change from the first time i loaded XP to this time is the raid controler so i'm guessing whatever was the problem was connected to that. so i have sound now and later today i'm going to set it up with my cable and test her out with CS.
  6. i'd like it alot more if the sound and ethernet worked on it....
  7. i'm fairly sure everything is installed correctly, however, i have no sound. at first i tried using the on board sound on my motherboard (the P4P800 Deluxe) i had it set to auto in bios (it has two settings auto and disabled) and i loaded XP home onto the PC and i didn't have any sound. the error i got said something about how it did not detect any hardware. so i went out and got a Santa Cruz sound card and installed that, then i loaded the drivers from the CD and tried to run a sound test that came with the drives and it froze up the computer. when i try to play a CD it still gives me the error about no hardware device detected. please help. thanks.
  8. yeah i just and speced the same pc i order from newegg and its over $600 more than mine, but suprisingly the dell i did the same for came up as $1000 more, i'd thought they'd be cheaper than alienware.
  9. no, you might as well get a dell and save money if your not going to build one.
  10. well i've order everything from newegg, and i currently using my new NEC 1760v (so pretty.....*drool*)
  11. priced alienware pc, they are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much for what you get.
  12. ok so the specs have changed. this is what they look like now: coolermaster ATC-111 liteon 52x24x52 burner liteon 16x dvd rom mitsumi floppy WD "SE" 80gig 8mb HD logitech elite keyboard 2 DIMMs of 512mb corsair XMS NEC 17" 1760v Asus P4P800 MS intellimouse 3.0a Enlight 420W P4 2.8c XP home and a Ati 9800 pro 128mb i changed to home because of the people i've been talking to at gamespot, also to an enlight as they suggested that as well, and all the newegg reviews are very positive. so all totaled up it comes to $1,978 which is cheaper than my first specs and better.
  13. well the lcd is also becuase its easier to move and takes up alot less room. the dorms at state have lans now and then so i'd go to those and a lcd would be alot easier to move than a CRT. about the 256mb 9800, from all the benches i've seen the extra ram does next to nothing. as for going back up to a gig of ram, i could always up grade to a gig of ram later. 512 will be fine for now and if next summer i need more i can buy it then, it will be cheaper by then too. as for overclocking i'm not touching that with a ten foot pole, the less stuff for me to screw up the better.
  14. i have a burner and a dvd drive in this pc and not only do i use my dvd drive to watch movies, i just like how by having 2 cd drives i can be that much more lazy before changing a cd ; ) also i was thinking of get the 2.8c P4 and geting 2 sticks of 256 enstead of the 2.4c and the 2 sticks of 512. as for fans it comes with 4. 2 in front, 1 in back and 1 on top so i think thats enough, and from all i've read intel stock HSF are good, and i'm not over clocking so it should be more than enough. edit was fans and HSF question
  15. well to make a good thing even better, the review of the asus board over at [H] said it had great sound so i can cut the autigy out and that frees up $75.
  16. well (add your fav 4 letter word to show shock and suprise), i just looked over at new egg and all the 9800 pros are going for 388 or 389 so the extra 10 bucks just sold me on geting one (yeah im cheap, and easy!) so i'll be geting the 9800 it looks like.
  17. well what im looking at right now is: coolermaster ATC - 111C SX1 $178 (its my congrats on being a college grad and contenution school to get a useful degree present) lite on CDRW $45 lite on dvd $33 floppy $10 WD 80gig 8mb HD $82 logictek elite keyboard $33 1gig of corsair PC3200 $190 (2 512 sticks) NEC 1760v $450 (buying at CC as i can return it if even 1 pixel is dead) Asus P4P800 the 865PE chip set, with bios unlocked pat tech. $123 itellimouse 3.0a $29 Antec true power 430W $83 P4 2.4c $182 Win XP pro $143 autigy $75 and then the video card. which i want for $300 so that makes it around 2k, oh and im geting some round cables too.
  18. i really rather not as what im currently looking at is just over 2k so i really want to keep it there.
  19. i'll be building my pc at the end of the month and had planed on putting in a 9800np or a 9700p. but the 9700p has been discontenued and the 9800np is nowhere to be seen (but at dell, ick). i really dont want to shell out an extra $100 to get a 9800p so does anyone know when the 9800np is going to be out, or should i just pick up a 9700p now, or do i wait for the 5900 value card. i dont have anything against nvidia and i could really care less they cheated at a test that doesn't mean much of anything so what is the best way to go?
  20. i had one done too awhile ago, but it wasn't that bad, they just shot up my toe with a local and started cutting.
  21. well im not to big on the leds and windows and all that jazz. i just want a nice clean looking case with good air flow.
  22. that is a nice case, do the bubbles move? well the 3 cases i was looking at were the new cooler master wave master (not out yet), the cooler master ATC-201-SX / ATC-201C-SX2, or the Antec Proformance Plus 1080AMG. haven't found a price for the first cooler master, the second one is $145, and the Antec is $125 and comes with a 430W trupower PSU. guess i'll be going with the Antec.
  23. well steel cases are cheaper, but aluminum is suppost to conduct heat out of the case better, however i haven't found anything to back this up other than a chart showing the conductivity of different metals, so i wanted to ask if they really are better than steel cases, or is it they're just more sexy?
  24. yeah cuz them things are just nasty.
