  1. Well, I about bit the dust today guys... I rode the motorcycle 300 miles to my hometown on Friday and had no problems. I was riding around the area around noon today heading toward town and about got hit head on by some donkey burrow. Coming toward me, there is a straight stretch and at the end, the road goes down hill(sort of a blind hill) and it turns to the right as soon as it starts to descend. I was coming up the hill and the car comes over the little hill, but doesnt turn. They just keep going straight and start to come into my lane. The car was pretty far off and I begin to slow down. He eventually comes all the way into my lane and at this point, Im almost off the road in the gravel and only going about 15mph(slowed down from 55mph). Regardless of whether I was off the road or not, they weren't paying a bit of attention and were still headed straight toward me, almost going off the opposite of the road. About two car lengths in front of me, I guess they look up and somehow swerve back to their lane.. Kinda shook me up for the entire day
  2. $200 is just a drop in the bucket on what I have charged and paid off since I've had that card for the past 6 years. I buy everything with that card and pay it off every month. I called them up immediately and Im not going to have to cover any of the fraudulent charges. Now that I think about it, there were two shady chicks in front of me who had to swipe three different cards before one allowed them to buy their black and milds. When I walked out to my motorcycle, they were standing in front of it smoking. In the store, I was going to pay with my card, but then decided to pay cash since it was only 2 bucks. Im not sure what I did with my card, but If I threw it in my helmet and it fell out when I went outside, I could see those two using it..
  3. So apparently I lost my credit card at 711 yesterday when I bought a taquito and an Arizona green tea. I tend to put the card in a random pocket after I use it sometimes and when it wasn't in my wallet later that night when I went out for dinner, I didn't think much about it. I log into my account this morning and see two charges for $105.36 at 711. Seriously who spends $105 at a 711, twice? What could you possibly buy for that with a credit card at a 711? Sort of makes me think a shady employee took it if I left it on the counter.
  4. Thanks preach. I'm not really scion fan or anything and there is no way I'd drive a box. I wasn't specifically looking for a Tc. I was really looking at an all black, four wheel drive, Z71, extended cab colorado. That is what I really wanted, but I was also checking out smaller cars that got better gas mileage and would be better for driving in the city. I like to take my time when buying something significant and it usually pays off. I saw the Tc pop up on craigslist one morning and picked it up that evening. It's actually a pretty nice car. Power windows, sunroof, keyless entry, automatic. I haven't had any of those luxuries in a very long time. It also zips around through traffic pretty well.
  5. Thanks dude. Why won't you get a bike? They are fairly cheap if you just browse local ads for someone trying to get rid of theirs. Insurance is super cheap and this bike gets about 40mpg in the city with aggressive driving. Probably about 50 on the highway. Im going to do a 600 mile round trip this weekend on the bike and test it out. As for the car, It had been wrecked and had some body damage, but completely restored. I bought it off a body shop for about 4-5k cheaper than what private sellers and dealers wanted for one. Also rolling up with cash and getting an extra $500 off with a "I'll take if off your hands right now for this" attitude works pretty well. It's an 07 w/ 40k miles, all maintenance had been done regularly and is very mechanically sound, it also even had new tires I really didn't want to buy another vehicle, but it wasn't practical for me to fix that Rodeo I bought. Since I got this car for so cheap. Im going to see how many miles I can put on her before she craps out.
  6. So I made a thread a while back about the Isuzu Rodeo I bought. Bought it for 5k in Nov of 2008, the head gasket cracked in May of this year. I was working about 75 hours a week when it happened and eventually the engine seized. KBB value was $2500. New engine would cost just as much or more. So I sold it for $500 and picked up this 2007 Scion Tc sometime in May. Then about 2-3 weeks ago I came across a killer deal on a 2008 Yamaha FZ6 w/4500 miles.. It also came with the original front end, in case I want to change it back to stock. I'm not really a fan of the banana seat, but I think this is the type of bike the suits my style. I dig the street fighter conversion and I like how it's got a little more upright sitting position than a super sport bike. It just seems more comfortable for distance trips. It does have the R6 engine just tuned down a little to have some torque in the mid-range. I like a v-twin better and the SV650 would have prob been my first choice, but seeing how I picked this up for only $2000, I think it's a great bike
  7. better business bureau. My room mate had a 2004 Maxima with transmission problems. It's an auto that started slipping. When up shifting or downshifting, it would rev high then CLUNK into gear. Was fine for a long time. Was a little to rough on it the other night and the transmission is now completely out. I'd say your probably fine, but if it's really bothering you, I'd get rid of it or trade it before the problem gets worse. Because there is no way you'd be able to sell it if get's as bad as what my room mate had.

    voice chat

I'm the last player on my team alive and I can hear my dead teammates on voice cat. Not sure if this is a setting or a bug, but it's kinda hard to play when everyone is chatting it up.
  9. I've been outta college for 5 years, but I still have my .edu address. Check your PMs
  10. Actually talked to my friend out in breck today, said he could hook me up with a job and a place to live... so far, this is looking to be the top choice
  11. haha I've read that before, but my Tc isn't quite a lambo. I was thinking more about doing something like that on a motorcycle. Hey man, hook me up with some more info on this. I got friends at a resort on the east coast, but Im not really feeling WV. My old roommate is out in Breck and I was talking to him about it the other day about it, but Tahoe seems like a much cooler spot.
  12. As you can see by My house thread the time has come. I had forgotten that I had really been planning on doing this well over a year ago. My lease ends Oct 1st, but I think I'm going to extend it to do the end of the year, just to bank a few extra bucks and maybe do some traveling for work. Dec 31st, I estimate I'll have about 20k in the bank. I have no bills and a newer car with low miles, so very little maintenance is expected vehicle wise. I also have an unlimited credit card for what it's worth, if I really needed it. I sold most of my possessions last year, but I still have a bedroom full of stuff I can store at my family's place. So I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. I've got to move out of this area. I really don't like it down here. It's sort of a scary feeling just thinking about leaving a good secure job, but it's something I feel like I got to do. I can just feel the 9-5 corporate world sucking the life out of me every day. I'm probably going to move back down to Southwestern Virginia, but first, I'm going to take a break from office space for a while. I figure I have 5 years as a programmer, my future employment looks pretty good. I have the ability to do something really cool and I feel like I need to jump on the opportunity while I can. Here's a couple ideas I have before I decide to reenter the work force. -I'd really like to pick up another motorcycle and ride across the country, but seeing how I'm going to start this in December, it might be too cold for that. -Just take the road trip in my car. I'm into backpacking. So I think it would be cool to check out as many parks as possible. Any traveling I do, I do it with no plans. My idea of traveling is just winging it. You always have the most fun. -Getting a part time job at a ski resort, so I get a season pass and can snowboard all winter. -Take one hell of a round the world trip. This would burn through my savings fast though. Anyone have any ideas? I have about 4 or 5 months before this and I want to be prepared.

    debt

well, I haven't been lurking around much, but I'll go ahead and reply if anyone's still reading. I understand that houses appreciate, but you should never rely on that as a deciding factor. Housing does have trend of going up, but occasionally it goes down. It seems like we have all been trained to go with a mortgage because you will come out ahead in 30 years. Banks and those with money have pushed this and because everyone has a mortgage, houses are way more expensive than what they should be. What's an extra $20k when I'm already borrowing $250k right? Also, I view a house different than most people. I don't think your house should be your investment. We all need a place to live. Are you going to sell it and become homeless? Whats the point of your house's value going up if you don't have another place to live? Sell it and buy another? With all that said, I do understand you could have made bank if you buy and sell at the right time, such as bought in 1995 and sold in 2005. Of course I'm going to be thinking differently in 10 or 20 years. I will own a place within 10 or 20 years. I'm not sure if I agree about the tax benefits argument. Sure you get more back in taxes, but that is because you are flushing money down the toilet in interest. I was paying 11k a year in interest on my townhouse. I would get XXXX amount back in taxes. I pay 7k a year for rent. Unless I was getting more than 4k back, it's not much different. Everyone's situation is different. I'm an only child and so is my father. I'll be the 5th generation to inherit our 100 acre farm. I'll build a place back there, own it and not give a $#% about the status of the housing market.
  14. Yep, it's been well over a year since I've taken a look at wordpress
  15. Actually something like Moveable type maybe what I'm looking for..
  16. No, I definitely want to be in control of the site. posterous and tumblr are out of the question. I've got my URL and am initially going to play around with it pointed to a server in my living room. I've tinkered with wordpress in the past and I didn't really like it. I think django or ruby on rails is what I'm looking for, but it may be too much. I'll check them out tonight when I get off work. Thanks for the heads up.
  17. So being a programmer of 5 years, I feel a bit silly asking this. What is the latest and greatest way to throw a page together. Nothing very complex, fairly simple blog entry, like the consumerist or techdirt. I have the URL and hosting, but I honestly don't know much about the latest back end stuff for webpages. I have coded in PHP, asp and used sql in the past, but I get the feeling there are easier ways. I see things like joomla, but Im a bit skeptical. Is that worth even using? Any advice or points in the right direction are appreciated.
  18. I've got a turntable and two microphones...

  19. I'd probably go with the gas/fire route just because it sounds the most fun.
  20. NOFX

    first DSLR?

Nice camera. I have the XTI and a 17-50mm tamron. If I had saw this early I would have suggested the body and one "good" lens. But it's all good, you will play around with what you got and then start trading or upgrading lenses on FM. Pick yourself up a 50mm 1.8 for $100 and be amazed by difference compared to the kit lenses.
  21. Hey now, I'm sort of a server regular... well I come and go in streaks 16 hrs past 2 weeks so my profile says...
  22. Steve Jobs should crap in a bag and sell the Iturd. The only overhead is food and a bag. We all know people would buy it. I'm betting this would profit more than the Ipod, pad, phone combined. Then we could sit back and enjoy show of some fat bloggers trying to get a recall because theirs didn't contain any corn.
  23. looks like rate is still locked at 100000. cmdrate and updaterrate are both at 66
