  1. like zester said, a good suggestion is to make sure to stretch afterwards as well. a stretch after you work out will give you the best results because of the 'warmed up' nature of the muscles. when you do it cold at the start, be careful and dont push it. what your goal is will depend on if you are looking to strengthen your heart or burn fat. i try and stay on the eliptical atleast 20 minutes every time i get on it. a good cartio workout can be done every day or two, depending what else you are looking to do in your workout.
  2. lol. yeh. you'll enjoy this. he ordered some new parts and started to build it. somewhere in there he did something wrong so he brought it to me. i start messing with it. a minute later i ask, "where is the cmos jumper in here i want to try and replace the bios" he responds "there isn't one. there were only a bunch of little small place saver things where the jumpers were supposed to be. i took them all off." i lowered my head and laughed. i laughed hard. and not with him. you know, i haven't tried it yet- but i'm curious if the PS died or is acting up... i mean, i hope not; i'm not sure how it would have...but.. thats the only thing i can think of.
  3. have noticed that every time my friend touches his computer, something goes wrong. he tried switching his gigabyte GA-k8u motherboard from one case to another and now the thing wont boot. i took out the video card, disconnected the HD and CD, still nothing. when i turn it on it starts to spin for a second and then stops. its shouldn't be a power issue, its a 450 watt ps. i've swapped the ram sticks out, i've checked and there is no grounding problem, unplugged everything and redone it. ideas?
  4. wait . i can read. you said psu, not cpu. no, i haven't tried that either. hold on.
  5. unfortunately no, the only person i know with a socket 754 isn't picking up his phone. my other systems are 939 or older socket A. i'm trying to get in touch with him now and get him to let me use his machine to test everything, but thus far- nothing.
  6. i'm building a socket 754 athlon 3000+ on a gigabyte GA-K8U motherboard for my stepmothers retirement. i've got it breadboarded out right now and the power is hooked up. i've kept it as barebones as possible with only the one dimm of ram in it and no ide or agp card in it for video. when i hit the power, the fan gives a little spin but nothing else. the power is going through the mother board because i can see the ram led on the motherboard come on. ideas? it sounds like a short to me, but this isn't the first board that had those symptoms. i had another one(same model) do the exact same thing, except it wasn't spinning up at all and the power led didn't come on. so, more or less the same. i've tested the ram in another machine and it works, i've also tried switching it between different ram dimms. that didn't work. i'm trying to figure out if there is something with the processor maybe... gigabyte is offically useless. their tech support page has a broken submit button for asking a question and the phone line isn't even a 800 and is long distance. i'm trying to get this done quickly because i have to leave town soon, any help would be appreciated.
  7. yeh. someone gave me the 512 ipod shuffle, and i returned it. more interested in another brand than ipod. i was looking at the iriver as well, dont know much about them comparitively as far as how good the iriver is.
  8. alright. thanks for the opinions guys, i'll pick one tonight and order it. then i'll have to find another excuse for getting owned...
  9. picking up an mp3 player as well. looking for a 1 gig player, i would like a bulit in mic to record my professors lecturing. i want to be able to review for exams and such. i dont care about an FM tuner. i'm looking at the creative brand- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16855102168 opinons?
  10. and just one more double check, zd- that wont have power issues with the 400 watt ps?
  11. do you know if what the other forum said about the power requirements of the 7800 being lower was true? that is the biggest thing i'm running into that i fear may be a problem. the 6800's i've seen that fit what i want are running only 50 dollars cheaper. not ruling them out, just curious. i want the most bang for my buck for now and for the long run.
  12. thanks. whats the difference between the 6800GT and the ultra? and why not the 7800 for the 300? i'm posting this on a couple of sites at the same time, getting a feel around. someone is telling me the 7800 is a little less of a power dependent and quieter? and which won out for the new gens of video cards- the atis or the gforce?
  13. i'm looking at around 300ish to spend tops. not looking to go much higher than that.
  14. i'm looking for a new card, i want a pci-e card with 256 of ram. i have a 400 watt power supply. what would you guys recommend, i dont know much about the newer video cards and i've never had a new 'good' card. the last thing i bought was a 9200 when the 9800 was the thing- so this will be the first for me. pretty much, over the next year or two i'm going to be playing BF2 and Elder SCrolls : Oblivion when it comes out. thanks in advance
  15. http://www.joejoe.biz/joejoe/walls/index.p...pgmFilters=#pic mm. those are some sweet backgrounds. i wish i had a place to host some of the ones i have and use constantly for my computer. i have some great ones.
  16. i've found some, but the biggest thing i'm running across is a limited number of ram slots- usually two, or three tops. this is one of the ones i was looking at http://shop.store.yahoo.com/directron/k8n4edeluxe.html
  17. what about a pci-e compadable 754 board? any opinons there?
  18. yeh. i read all of those, then i read the review of the chipsets on http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2471 needless to say after watching it perform in those tests and reading about what it was capable of, that is an amazing chipset i'm going to have to keep my eyes on. the chipset combo on that board has agp + pci-e duality possible, with other southbridge chipsets, its possible to run two pci-es. high scores in hl2 and farcry for pci-e in a very compedtitive way for the rest, top of the line for agp with no hold backs.
  19. what do you guys know bout the norht bridge south bridges that are on that asrock? ULi M1695 & ULi M1567
  20. i was under the impression that board manufacturs didn't produce agp & pci-e 16x. hm, i guess i just never see it because its very uncommon. i dont know uch about asrock, although i was looking at one of their boards this morning. i vere'd away because i dont know the name. biostar i'm an absolute fan of because of the experiences i've had with them, so i fell on that. thats a really good option....
  21. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16812183032 round IDE cables http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813138264 Biostar NF4 TForce6100-939 RT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103535 AMD 64, 3200+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145026 1 gig corsair ddr 400 i had really wanted a atx(non mini) board with onboard video, 4 ddr slots, pci-e slot in 939, but i gave up on the non mini. i need the onboard video because i wont be getting my new video card until after christmas and i'd like to be able to build my machine before then. gonna give the machine i have now to my mom next weekend and upgrade her to post-2k in technology when i build this, thus the timing what do you guys think? any changes you would make? total cost = 334.37 after shipping.
  22. those crude oil prices are the same before the hurricane. it hit 70 before, so even when this finishes, we're facing a whole new problem.
  23. bush has authorized the use of some of the 700 million barrels of crude oil, however the problem is that we still have to process that crude oil into gasoline, and with the damaged refineries, we are running a few men short of a full team if you know what i mean. even going full steam, we are behind. we have to rework and come up with the manpower in other parts of the country to import more, and we have to come up with a way to up our production level more than it is to make up for 10% oil lost every day. another problem that stems from this is the massive amounts of lacking supplies we need to fix new orleans. the national guard is deployed over seas(i feel sorry for them, imagine how much they are hating it over there now, knowing where they really need to be and how much they want to help all their friends/loved ones), so is their supplies. Fema has canceled humanitarian efforts in new orleans from what i understand due to the choas. i've seen several reports of med-evac chopters not being able to land because of gun fire. The hospitals are full and the dead are floating down the streets. Disease is spreading bad and we aren't getting the people we need in there and we dont have enough even if they were getting in there. add to that the whole levvi situation... its a mess. complete mess. most of my friends are from either new orleans or batton rouge, they dont know what to think.
  24. to give you a rough idea. the gulf of mexico is 30% of our domestically produced oil, which translates roughly to 10% of our oil overall. the refining process is also huge in that area and many refineries were very damaged and have gone offline. many of the oilrigs that aren't damaged, and many are, dont know where the people who run them are and production is not slated to be back to normal for 10 weeks at the soonest. the mississippi is also a prime way that oil is transported from the major importation ports in New Orleans up north. Bascially, its a big deal.
