  1. Well, today the company Quantegy closed it doors. They were the last manufacturer of tape for open reel to reels, a slowly dying medium for recording music. I was in the process of buying a reel to reel recorder for my basement studio and this seriously put a dent in it. 1/2 " tape (whcih is what i need) is now 20 dollars more per reel than it was last week! man, i should've listened to the rumors and horded a bunch of tape. A lot of big studios are digital now, I think this is going to affect the smaller studios and home studios who are still recording to tape which sucks a lot. I have a feeling this is not going to be good for music in a broad sense.
  2. This is a documentary of the guy who wrote Boondock Saints, looks pretty interesting actually. http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/overnight.html
  3. OK I know alot of people here DL Music for there mp3 players, ect ect. I havent Downloaded anything in a long time? Any recomended sites? I also dont have much time till I deploy I leave Jan 11th
  4. I can't get enough of this guy as an actor. I have always thought he was WAAAAY underappreciated as a character actor...and this movie just proved it to me more. I don't think the guy will ever be a HUGE celebrity that can sell his own films like Tom Cruise or Denzel Washington...but I will go see any movie with this guy in it. The character he portrays in this film is equally infuriating and likeable...the movie itself was very shallow and dimensionless...however his character definatly wasn't. Compare this character to say, Frank Buffay on Friends (Phoebe's stupid little brother), or to the character he portrayed in Gone in 60 Seconds...or to Boiler Room, or SubUrbia (old film with him in it)...he portrays them all so well that they seem to be HIM. Then think about other "famous" actors...take his costar in this film: Dennis Quaid. I can't think of a single film where he doesn't play the same general character...he is always that older gruff semi-rebellious guy...he is always Dennis Quaid playing a part in those films...he doesn't make me feel as if he IS the character. Another example would be Will Smith. Funny guy, I LOVE movies with Will Smith...but I never see the character so much as I see Will Smith acting. I LOVED "I, Robot"...I thought it was an amazingly well done sci-fi movie and could be one of the best sci-fi's of all time...but the thing that makes it worse in my mind is that it will always be Will Smith onscreen and not some actor that I can forget about and see only the character. An example of someone who is hugely famous but can act in a way to let you forget who he is would be Jim Carrey. Now admittedly...99.9999% of his movies...he is playing the same thing...he's being silly Jim Carrey. But there are a few movies ("The Majestic", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind") where his character portrayals are so different from him as a person that I think he's one of the best character actors ever (although he rarely uses those skills). No idea why I went off on that...hehe...sorry!
  5. Anyone see it yet? been busy this weekend but hopefully this week I can see it. Going to make me laugh through the whole thing hopefully.
  6. Went to see this last night. We loved the first one and were anxious to see how good the second one would be... It is definately worth seeing, but not quite as good as the original. My wife refuses to see it at all and walked out of the first one it annoyed her so much, but I reallly laughed hard on the first one and laughed quite a bit on this one. DeNiro does a gret job with his patented "gruff face". Hoffman and Streisand are really good but start to get on your nerves a bit by the end of the movie according to my friend, although I did not notice that much. Overall it is quite entertaining if you liked the original. Lots of good laughs and fun will be had by all. We gave it an 83/100.
  7. uumm...I'm still formulating my opinions on this film. As far as entertainment value goes...the movie wasn't "exciting" or "hilarious"...it was just...a story about some people...kinda hard to explain. I didn't DISLIKE it...it was just...not what I expected at all. Kinda could be compared to Punch Drunk Love (another "romance" film with Adam Sandler)... overall I'd give it a 70/100 oh...and... *cough*PazVegaIsAttractive*cough*
  8. Wow. This was a great movie, even though, there was a lot more pornographic language in this film then i was expecting. great acting. good story. 4/4 stars.
  9. Wife got this for me for Christmas. Watched it and wow, many very important scenes cut from the movie. This extended version is what the initial movie should have been.
  10. So I am a huge Clive Cussler fan. I have read all of his books and think they are great. He had a book made into a movie a looooonnnngggg time ago and it kinda sucked. They are ding it again with Sahara, coming out soon and it looks very good. Any others read Cussler?
  11. saw the movie last night. My impression is that it is VERY predictible, but was still entertaining. Probably won't ever see it again but I didn't hate it. I'd give it a 75/100. Here's the thing I DID like about the movie though: Giovanni Ribisi. see my rant/ramble here: http://www.gamrs.co/forums/in...showtopic=15254

    Batman Begins

I have my doubts about this one being any good. Hard to say I guess. http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/batman_begins/trailer/
  13. My girlfriend and I got into a conversation the other day. Out of curiousity, can you name a GOOD movie that has Ben Affleck in it? Now... Can you name a GOOD movie with Ben Affleck that does not have Matt Damon in it as well?
  14. Ah by Leonard Nathan Through an open window of late summer evening a woman cries, Ah-ah-AH! Neighbors pause, blush perhaps, then go on with their homely chores, smiling to themselves. What do you do with thisâ€â€another’s shameless, lonely ecstasy? Or your own? I put a tape of Mozart on to cover our confusion.
  15. The worst horror movie I have ever seen (and it's my favorite genre). Not gonna go into why, I just really hated it, especially the ending. 40/100 here.
  16. I went to this movie on saturday night. The very first thing that struck me was that the voices weren't dubbed. I TOTALLY did not expect this (the movie article said nothing about this and neither did the previews) and I think it detracted from the overall sense of the movie because instead of watching and taking in the facial expressions/body language associated with the dialogue I was spending my time reading the scrolling text at the bottom. Add to this that there are quite a few culture specific references in the text and it makes the dialogue sometimes hard to follow. Besides the lack of voice dubbing (and the lack of mention of said lack in the newspaper article) the movie seemed to creep along at some times. From what I can remember it was something like this: Fight scene, talking scene, talking scene, talking scene with lots of metaphysical talk (what is real? what is reality? that sort of theme), Fight scene. Possibly the reason I found this tedious was because of the constant reading I was forced to do, let me be honest I go to most movies without expecting to do alot of reading and when a movie that I didn't expect to be undubbed isn't dubbed that makes my mental score-chart for the movie go down a few notches. Besides the above mentioned problems I thought the movie was decent, It had a sort of realism in that some of the characters were easily relateable (I made that word up) and you could put yourself in their shoes. Despite the dialogue being in japanesse and the numerous culture specific references I was able to gain an idea of some of the main points of the movie because of the great job that the movie did through visualization. Some of the CG scenes are breath-taking in their complexity and sense of looking like something real and tangible. The movie raises some interesting questions and although I do not agree, in some areas, with how the directors seem to be leading you to certain conclusions only I do see where they are coming from and can emphize with them. Overall I would give this a 83/100 mostly because of the lack of dubbing.
  17. Woops guess i should have put this topic here instead of the chit-chat section; my bad Iono if any of you guys like Tim Burton movies but he and Johnny Depp are teaming up to do a remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory Just thought id pass it along. http://www.timburtoncollective.com/charlie.html
  18. Anyone been watching this? I haven't missed an episode. I think its a great show.
  19. just saw a couple things on hte history channel for it...looks cool and looks like colin farrel went all out for the movie cant wait to see it
  20. Stewart Wins Lawsuit bah i think it's a thing where you can only view the article one and if you close it and reopen they want you to subscribe. Anyways long story short. THe Wychoski brothers (however you spell it) stole the idea of the matrix from this lady who wrote a book about it and had it copyrighted in 1981. There was some kinda contest where the Wychoski brothers put out for people to submit sci fi stories and what now. Even the films were edited so that it would get around the copy right issues. Guess not. She gets a whole ton of money. She gets a cut of the profits from Matrix 1,2 and 3, also Terminator i think.

    Heval Metal massacre

More via the link: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,140955,00.html I never liked Pentara so this means nothing to me. I however can not dismiss the talent they had musically even if I did not like it.
  22. I saw this movie last monday and wow, the best pixar movie to date imo! The animation was top notch, the story was great! A little predictable for me, but I'm sure for a kid it wouldnt be. I'd give this movie a 90/100 ...not perfect, but very incredible.
  23. http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/11/30/t...s.ap/index.html It is a sad day for America I really didn't think it was possible. Now please go on "Who Wants to Be a Millionare" and pick up where you left off in Jeopardy.
  24. Well i got to see the premiere for National Treasure today and I must say it was good. I was a bit iffy on seeing it cause it only has a PG rating but it surpased my expectations. Its kinda like an Indy movie set in modern times. Id give it 3/4 Stars.
