USB IDE Adapter?

does this do what I think it does?

What I think it does is that it would allow me to plug into a hard drive (any normal hard drive) and then directly plug that into a USB slot and boom...I have a hard drive.

Well, it says "Supports Self-Power modes" but since regular hard drives need to have a molex connector for power, I don't see how plugging in just the IDE cable part would every be able to give it power, so I say "No, I don't think it will work as advertised"...note the "as advertised" part.

Yeah if you do get that you would need a molex cable coming out of your computer or something that converts molex to usb. <--don't even know if that will power it enough.

Get an external enclosure from newegg:) or one of these <3

Dweez.. what enclosure did you have? Wasnt that firewire? That one was neat.

I wouldn't recommend it. Looks like a useless flashy toy that you can show off to your nerdy tech buddies. "Look here Steve, I have a IDe to USB cable. Do you have one?"
