Brillow_Head August 17, 2004 Share Brillow_Head Member August 17, 2004 There are some days where it takes almost 30 seconds to load the Home page, some days it wont even connect, but the rest of the pages pop up right away...
hyperactiveChipmunk August 17, 2004 Share hyperactiveChipmunk Member August 17, 2004 Maybe we should redirect it to our webserver. It worked for cuffo! -hC
Bubblegum Bandit August 17, 2004 Share Bubblegum Bandit Member August 17, 2004 Maybe we should redirect it to our webserver. It worked for cuffo! -hC I'm assuming that is a joke? Since, it is our webserver. Anyway, the only thing that I can assume is really slowing us down is the XML we are receiving for the server status stuff. Only way to speed that up is to not have it at all.
Fatty August 18, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 18, 2004 I was actually going to bring this up....but I'm not sure there's any answer beyond other status progs. I know we've had continual issues with serverspy...and you've talked about revamping...should we look at alternatives? m0m has always used some simple textbased stuff that I'm sure you could pretty up... http://www.dirtylittlemonkeys.org/dlm_index.shtml There's got to be alternatives. It's not your coding, it's the serverspy stuff within....
Bubblegum Bandit August 18, 2004 Share Bubblegum Bandit Member August 18, 2004 Sorry, my post may have had the wrong tone....I'm not offended or anything....the part about is this a joke was in reference to Chipper's comment. I can look into what Mom runs, I have no clue what it is though. Does it show details of what is going on in the server, or is it static with just the ips and names? If we want to keep the dynamic details of the server we need to realize that it is going to slow down loading of the page no matter what program we use....maybe not as slow as with serverspy. The whole action of the home page activation(you putting the url in your browser) which sends a message to the server, which in turn has to send a message back that includes the details, and then the site display this message is gonna take some time. The only way we can really speed it up is to cut out the middle man(serverspy). So, I guess we need to search for other ways that we can grab info straight from our servers instead of having to send it through server spy. Fatty August 18, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 18, 2004 Man, the uglygs prog we used to run was so nice, but they stopped upgrading it. It keep great records, etc, of everything we had, made graphs, etc. Here's how it was when it last ran before I killed it: http://mmmmcs.com/uglygs-rc9/servers.html <sigh> The site is even gone now. m0m's shows players...playercount is nice. I'd REALLY like to see player's names actually on the list. That would be (bulky yes maybe) awesome. People have GOT to be doing this. Let's have anyone who wants to take some looks around instead of wondering. Post back with some good examples.

Fatty August 18, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 18, 2004 What if we disguarded the XML and just used one of their prefabbed monitors? I never remember there being much delay on those.

This one looks like it has promise. Gives me the same information that serverspy gives me and I can query it straight from our servers instead of through serverspy's servers. It would effectively cut out the middle man. PHP is no problem, the problem with nuke was getting the PHP to sync with the Database properly. The server moniters we are running now are PHP. What if we disguarded the XML and just used one of their prefabbed monitors? I never remember there being much delay on those. The main reasons I do not like this idea is because you are limited to two or three skins and they are bulky. It would take up too much space on our front page. Especially if you want to see player names on the front page now too. I think the ones we have now are bulky and I want to reduce them somehow. Maybe I can code in a dropdown box that would show the players?
