Xterminator October 18, 2004 Share Xterminator Member October 18, 2004 Alright has anyone had their comp boot up for no apparent reason. I've noticed this on my dad's comp (this one i'm writing on) that it turns on whenever it wants. Like this morning i specifically remember turning off the comp cuz i had a doctor's appointment, i just get home and all of a sudden it's on. My mom is the only one home and she is computer illiterate. This has happened many times. I'm just trying to figure out why.
Birdman October 18, 2004 Share Birdman Member October 18, 2004 I've had this happen a couple of times. My puters were booting up becuase of the network card tellin' it to. You can disable this in the bios if you are using built in ethernet. And i think you can disable it on network cards in windows xp too.
Gond October 18, 2004 Share Gond Member October 18, 2004 There are also bootups on mouse movement & keyboard pressing that can be disabled in the BIOS.
dwEEziL October 18, 2004 Share dwEEziL Member October 18, 2004 There is also a "Power Restore State" in your BIOS. If it is set to "Power on when power is restored" then a little hiccup in your power (outage for a second or so) will cause it to boot the system back up. I ususally set the setting to "Off" or "Previous State".
