My Full Upgrade

Well I apoke with ZD and he's been a big help in helping me finally decide on the upgrades. My fan on this current video card is dying and even though I wanted to wait until December to do this, looks like I'm going to have to now.

Video Card - I said if I was going the 400 Dollar route I was torn between the x800Pro and 6800GT, The 500 Dollar route was x800XT hands down. ZD linked me to this, VERY very tempting to drop my CC in right now.

Mobo - He forgot the link to the mobo but reccomended Nforce3 over VIA, any mobo reccomendations would be helpful. 754-Pin or 939-Pin so I can compare. Have been a fan of Asus.

Chip - I was set on going A64, I was also pretty set on going 754-Pin 3200+, he reccomended me possibly dropping the extra few bucks and getting a 939-Pin 3500+. More upgrade possibility's

Memory - Reccomended me This crucial set. Going for 1 gig of ram. Would like for ram to be cheaper if possible, any reccomendations welcome. $164 is a little steap for 1 stick of 512.

Case+Power supply - Reccomended both of these, I don't think I want a case that big as my current one is a chieftec one and it doesn't really fit well in my desk, looking for something a BIT smaller with dual fans on the back, side window, and and fan. 1 CD-drive is going in plus 3 IDE Hard drives.(2 160 gig's and a 120 gig, all WD)

I mentioned I wasn't big on Overclocking my system but was open to anything on it and if I should. Your suggestions welcome on that end as well. This is going to be purchased within the next week or so as this video card is on its last leg. I'm open to any and all suggestions you give. This community is so helpful when it comes to this stuff and I can't thank you guys enough.

here's just some alternatives :

i ordered some of these kits today, have used them before and are great.

also ordered this today for PSU.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-148-009&depa=0

if you really wanna spend 80+ on a PSU get the one you linked, or an Antec Tru480

That cpu is nice you linked, 3500+. If you wanna save a few buck's get a 3200+, but definately go socket 939.

If you wanna overclock don't take my ram suggestion. Its great ram for running stock. This is the RAM i would go for building a new A64 rig right now. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-146-974&depa=1

and for cpu if your going to oc. 90nanometer > 0.13microns process. That's more important then the difference between a 3200+ and a 3500+ in oc world.

I may not even overclock. It was just an outer suggestion. In fact to save 100 bucks. I might not even bother with it...Your ram reccomendation is nice, 163 for 1 gig. I like a lot.

First, this is the mobo I had linked the first time before my BSOD. I reinstalled XP via a Ghost image so hopefully my BSOD's will go away. None since then.

Anyway, here is the mobo:

That PSU linked by AK should be good. I have a 500Watt one by Aspire and they are of a great price for performance. I just know that if you are going to be OC, you want the RAM I suggested and the PSU.

The RAM AK recommended is good but not very overclockable. The Crucial is Overclockable over 500 Mhz and it is standard 400 mhz memory. keep that in mind.

Also, if you go with the 3200 A64 939 pin, they only come OEM, that means no long term warranty and no Heat Sink and Fan. The 3500 makes sense because it comes with those and comes at a higher speed. There are also .13 3500's out there.

For a 939 motherboard I've been considering:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-130-468&depa=1

It got the best reviews for it on Anandtech and I've read a bunch of good reviews on it. It offers the most bang for the buck. I agree with ZD that the nforce boards are better than the via. At least from what I have read they outperform them in almost all categories.

As far as overclockable ram the OCZ ones that All Killer linked are awesome. It's actually been rated as pc-3500 ram but packaged as pc-3200 so you can't really go wrong with it. It's definitely costlier though.

I'd go with the 3500+ if you can and definitely go with the 90nanometer > 0.13microns process. At least with that few extra bucks you will spend it would give you much more options down the road. You could overclock it and not have to upgrade sooner down the road.

I've been waiting to upgrade everything as well but want to wait til after the first of the year for newer video cards to come out to drop the prices down a bit. Also the nforce4 boards will be coming out soon so I'm a bit interested to see how they perform. Problem with computers is everytime you want to upgrade new stuff keeps coming out. Damn vicious cycle...

That is the baord you want there. That wasn't on Newegg when I was doing the research for you. It is the same as mine except it is 939 pin. Works beautifully too.

The smaller the better. 90nm is better becaue it is smaller, produces less heat and allows for better OC's later.

Changed power supply after talking with killer. The aspire wouldn't have fit in the case. Going to go with the enermax that ZD suggested or a thermal take killer suggested. Thermaltake is in the total post.

that aspire should have fit in the case. If it is ATX, then it will fit fine.

Well everything is ordered. Went with the enermax PSU and the twinmos ram. Came out to about 1200 all together because I live in NJ and theres TAX for us ;(

I'll be sure to run 3dMark and tests to test its performance. I can't wait! Thanks for all your help ZD, Zap, and Kill3r, couldn't have done it without you.

Damn that sucks you had to pay tax. That's the one great thing about ordering out of Ohio since there are very few computer places here. I never have to pay tax on it. Still $1200 is a good price for how nice that computer will be.
