stutters August 1, 2005 Share stutters GC Alumni August 1, 2005 (edited) our bigger brother in the midwest has been suffering some unresolvable (and nearly unplayable) choke issues. when i'm playing on west, i get anywhere from 0-48 choke....but no one else has been complaining. the decision is being made where gc will host it's servers, and that's where you come in. we're currently loooking at servers from aim2game. they look like a good fit. but i need hard feedback from the gc west members. CURRENT #1 69.12.39.15:27015 ping: choke level and observations: load times, general feel, registering, etc: TEST #2 72.37.147.22:27015 ping: choke level and observations: load times, general feel, registering, etc: please test these two servers, complete your homework assignment (questions 1-3), and post it here. your feedback is needed; it will directly affect the decision for the west server location. if you have other recommendations (GSP wise) or suggestions, please PM them to me. otherwise, lets keep this just about server testing feedback. thanks. Its justbeen some horrible lag, everybody is skipping around on our screens, the map changes is just HORRIBLE. I think Los Angeles would be a GOOD idea. Last couple of months we have had some choke - mainly when it gets really busy with most players alive start to get people lagging for short amounts of time. I haven't noticed the Choke counter specifically... I think mine has only got up to 5 -10 range. Definetely very long in changing (some) maps, which tends to rapidly loose players. I wondered why this was - a server loading issue? I would have thought the provider should be able to track the host stats and provide some comment on why this is happening and whether they will do anything. They have some incentive to get involved otherwise they are going to loose the business.... Anyway, I am just up the road from San Jose, so performance wise, San Jose has great pings. Fatty August 3, 2005 Share Fatty GC Founder August 3, 2005 one observation: West #3 is redirecting to the test server in LA... but LA is full while our #3 sits at 18 or so. That means PUB TRAFFIC....which is always a GREAT sign. Shep was right on....I tossed 100 TIC in the names of the servers...I believe that helps. CURRENT #1 69.12.39.15:27015 ping: avg 35 choke level and observations: avg 15-25 (in fights) load times, general feel, registering, etc: slow load on map change TEST #2 72.37.147.22:27015 ping: avg 40 choke level and observations: high 40, avg 25ish load times, general feel, registering, etc: quick load, no rubber-band effect, nice. the numbers don't say it, but #2 felt smoother. no lag on map change. advantage, linux.
