waterox December 19, 2005 Share waterox Member December 19, 2005 That's a very subjective question and it really depends on what level of performance you want to get. There are a lot of websites out there that do reviews, like www.sharkyextreme.com, anandtech.com, hardocp.com, tomshardware.com, and I recommend you take a sec to browse some of their actual performance benchmarks. That being said, I am pretty sure that around the $300 region, AMD outperforms Intel in most gaming applications.

Cujo December 19, 2005 Share Cujo Member December 19, 2005 (edited) amd is currently superior to intel in every area. they are faster in all but a few applications, they use far less power, and they run a lot cooler. in the dual core area they aren't even in the same league. i've heard it'll be 2007 before intel is competitive again. and even then that assumes amd sits back. if you're getting a new rig right now you'd be very foolish to get an intel. btw, in my comparisons, i'm talking about similarily priced items. yes intel has cheaper dual cores but they are just that, cheap. certainly not cheap on hydro though they will heat a room well so in the winter it's a good trade-off.
