  1. Thanks to the staff that put it on, it was great fun and you guys did a great job. The sponsors (brownies/kellogs/etc) was fantastic, and man, I really wanted a Thrustmaster... incentive to go back I guess. The facility was great, staff was really cooperative, and the people I met were friendly and nice. Cheers to all the .iB. guys, at least we won 1 :-P About power: I've been to LANs in the past where users discouraged from bringing power strips. Each person had 3 nearby outlets assigned to them and that was all. That way, the power grid was set up before hand and no weird daisychaining occured. Might have to rent more power equipment that way... but it might be a good idea to consider. Regarding 18/drinking, maybe you should designate a section (or side) of the lan to be the adult/21+ side and one to be the family-friendly side. I understand Evil's point above, but I know a lot of people got trashed on Saturday and had a good time. There has to be a way to balance both wants. I was disappointed that the LAN room was closed at 4:30am Sat night. It would be nice if we could figure out a way to lan all night long, but I understand wanting to close it up. Just a comment for the future. Those are my humble comments. I really think the lan went well, and that the faciliity and you staff did a great job. Thanks a ton for having me. EDIT: Reply to fish "Do you think that more people would play poker if it was only a $5 buy in?" I love poker, I really do, but I'm probably not gonna play poker at a LAN regardless. Sry :-/

i voted for militia, even tho i havent played it yet. i bet it's awesome on scopeless (and not to bad regular, either)
  3. sry dude, dunno what happened :-/. i pretty much leave xfire on all the time, so its possible my g/f saw it and just closed it.
  4. I had a random lock-up today, first ever with my new compy. Xfire was running.... must investigate.
  5. I added the 3 of u in this post to my friends list. NICE
  6. I too have a 4th gen iPod, got it for xmas last year. My first one worked fine for 4 months but all of a sudden wouldnt start up. Returned to apple no hassles and got a brand new one in less than a week. The ease of return makes me love apple. The only problem is if you buy music in itunes getting it to any other non-iPod player is a major pain in the butt (and probably involves hacking apple's drm).
  7. I like the rules and the .gc stuff, but I agree the ethugs could be toned back. Maybe even make the rules stand out more, add that bright yellow in a border or something the two .gc's on nuke was a cool effect, tho
  8. That's a very subjective question and it really depends on what level of performance you want to get. There are a lot of websites out there that do reviews, like www.sharkyextreme.com, anandtech.com, hardocp.com, tomshardware.com, and I recommend you take a sec to browse some of their actual performance benchmarks. That being said, I am pretty sure that around the $300 region, AMD outperforms Intel in most gaming applications.
  9. I have 3 suggestions. 1, Make sure the wireless card is getting addresses from dhcp, meaning nothing entered in ctrl panel >network connections > wireless cards > tcpip properties. Try run > cmd > ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew to see if it even tries to check for an ip address. 2, Check the wireless router to see if it has mac address access filters on. If it does, you would need to add the laptop's wireless mac addy to the approved list. 3, Check the router to see if it's broadcasting ssid. If it's not, you usually have to enter the name manually somehow. If you need more detail on how to do this just ask, dunno how much you know about networking in XP. In order to check the router you have to know how to log on to it.
  10. it was decent today, around 25ºF in the afternoon. On freakin thursday I spent an hour breaking my back shoveling off our tiny sidewalk and driveway cuz the friggin snow was 8 inches deep and sopping wet and heavy, thankfully it hasn't snowed much since. The best part about this weather tho.... POND HOCKEY!!
  11. Good luck man. I just graduated from U Mich in May, and am missing college life and all the hedonism and good times that it entailed. My advice isn't go to class (even tho it's really, REALLY hard some days.. u have no idea just yet lol) but have an awesome time, make lots of friends, and get stupid wasted every possible chance.
  12. sI just bought a bunch of parts from newegg. I got the DFI Ultra-D mobo and it's pretty rock solid. Easy setup, good bios, looks tight in mah window too. They also have real good forums on dfi-street.com on how to set up mbm, overclock, and help troublehoot issues. Two thumbs up for DFI I also got a rosewill 500watt psu with blue leds and so far it's a champ. There are copious connectors, SATA compatibility, and the wires are all sheathed in black webbing. Unfortunately, I had to install it upside down (wth?) because of the fan grill on the top, but it's an intake fan anyway so it seems like it would help to have it circulate air around the mobo. After 2 weeks, I say it's a good product, no complaints. I spent almost exactly $1000 on my box and, in addition to the DFI mobo and Rosewill PSU: Athlon 64 3700+ 2x512 OCZ Performance Series ram (copper heatsinks look awesome :-P) evga 7800gt (came with free Call of Duty 2, which I havent even played yet lol) Maxtor Maxline SATA 300gig hdd Lian Li pc65 USB case I had a dvd drive and burner from an old compy, so I didn't need to buy an optical drive. I also had 2 200gig IDE hdds, so i have 600 gigs in mah box :-) Eventually, I plan on upgrading to a dual core proc and getting another card for SLI, but I probably don't need to do that for another year or two.
  13. Howdy all. I'm interested in a cooling soluton for my graphics card and my chipset fan. The gfx card extends out in front of the chipset fan and occludes the airflow somewhat, and MBM says the two temps get up to around 50-52ºC during an intense fragfest. I don't think it's that big of a deal, because I think the card is rated to around 70ºC but I'm not sure, so I am researching some sort of cooling device. It's an EVGA 7800GT PCIe, installed in a DFI LanParty nf4 Ultra-D I'm considering buying some sort of slot cooler like this fancy one or this less fancy one? i like the fancy one b/c it has two fans, one that blows directly on the gpu and one for venting. I thinkthat one would do a nice job, but it has a red LED that would clash with my otherwise blue lighting scheme :-P Does anyone here have something like this running in their rig, and is it worth it? I don't even know if I should be trying to get a cooler box because it might not even be worth it.
  14. Processor AMD Athlon 64 2210MHz Display Card NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT Memory 1024MB Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Free Disk Space 85.79GB Display Card Memory 256MB Display Driver Version 8.1.9.5 DirectX Version 9.0c Optical Drive CD/DVD Sound Card NVIDIA® nForce Audio Your system is among the top 5% of all systems scanned by the Game Advisor. Not too bad, but I just built this thing a few weeks ago. Guess I shoulda got that Athlon 4000+
  15. Yea, I've only been playing Source for 'bout 2 weeks now, and I dont even wanna play other pubs that aren't GC cuz of microphone spammers, stupid noob. You guys have a good thing going here. Altho, I must admit, my first reaction when i died after doing somethiing stupid (an unfortunately common experience, as i'm fairly noobish still) is to type my favorite four letter word. **Don't even abbreviate the cuss words in the forums. Speak w/o it. -Fatty
