I've heard of escrow sites before, and in a Time magazine article they said that some are reputable. I'd do some research, though, and see which ones are qualified.

i didnt read it all(its reallllllly long) but it is a guide about what to look for, for fake escrow services

I searched on Yahoo! and it only came up with one result: and it was a list by Truste (they do a lot of internet security stuff) saying that www.securemydeal.com was using the Truste web privacy seal without authorization.

That tells it all. Those 2 links were fantastic.

 

Remember that the odds are 9 to 1 against you finding a legitimate online escrow service.

 

Never ever use the escrow service recommended by the other party, buyer or seller. Never ever! If a seller ever tells you to use a particular escrow service, be afraid. Be very afraid! All sorts of red flags should go up in your brain.

is being run by Romanian scammers using a web host in China.

The server on which this fraud escrow site resides is full of nothing but scam sites.

if anyone EVER wants you to use an Escrow service (especially if they suggest a specific one) tell them you won't use any service except the one that Ebay supports (Escrow.com I believe).

It occurs to me that the lesson here is - If you're considering a big ticket purchase, check with GC first. We are just full of reputable people with good advice. Hurray for GC!! Makes me proud to belong to GC.
