dragonfly October 7, 2008 Share dragonfly Member October 7, 2008 (edited) 1. I need to split a vga signal. At my church we're running a signal from a laptop at the back to a projector at the front. I need to split this signal to two other monitors on the stage that the song leaders can look at for the lyrics. What do you recommend I use to accomplish this? 2. I need an external enclosure for a SATA2 HDD that preferably has 1394 as a connection type (it's faster than usb2.0, no?). What should I buy that's priced decently? I have a HDD already, I just need the box, unless you find a wicked sick combo deal for me of course. 3. I also need to take the signal from a video camera in real time and use it to broadcast that picture using skype to another location. I'm using XP Pro. Would any tv tuner do that for me, or do I need to get something special? It can't be a pci card either, since it's a laptop that's getting the signal. Oh, and the signal is being sent via a/v cables, not coaxial. Help? Edited October 7, 2008 by DarkArchon

It's for plugging into my G4 mac, which only has 2 usb ports, one of which is always taken by my mouse. So the firewire is definitely preferred... There is a newegg.ca though now, which is cool. Thanks for looking anyway! Doesn't your church utilize at least some of #1 and #3? What do you guys use for running video monitors for your musicians/singers?
Preacher October 8, 2008 Share Preacher Member October 8, 2008 we use a laptop with a video out for the projector, we just assume the people on stage will learn the songs at practice or before, if not then they can use a small podium with it on old fashioned paper lol
anonymo October 8, 2008 Share anonymo Member October 8, 2008 #1 VGA splitting is expensive, especially if the cabling has to travel over 50' http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16817707053 So this one is about $40, but the image is going to be fuzzy coming out of it. This is what you want, but it runs for about $150 and you have to find a dealer (not usually sold in stores). http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx...&subtype=32 #3 A TV tuner should be able to do that http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16815100035 Accepts S-Video/Composite/Coax, they mention a dongle but I'm sure it comes with it (but make sure). As for the audio, that's a different story. L/R RCA's into a 3.5mm adapter into your mic input will do the trick.
dragonfly October 8, 2008 Author Share dragonfly Member October 8, 2008 Those are perfect. Thanks anonymo! Preach: yeah we're also using paper, but we need to see what's on the screen sometimes too. If we can do that at a reasonable price (we already have the monitors) then why not?
Preacher October 8, 2008 Share Preacher Member October 8, 2008 If you had TVs it would be a little easier and cheaper. Just get a vga converter box and run everything with coax cable which is cheap and use splitters that cost $1. The converter box I had I gave to my buddy so he could use a PS2 on a CRT monitor or I would give it to ya. Don't have the time right now since I'm leaving for a week, but I think I got the converter box at Tigerdirect a few years back for like $35. dragonfly October 8, 2008 Author Share dragonfly Member October 8, 2008 That's a good idea. I'll look into that. You can grab those old tvs for uber-cheap right now anyway since everyone's going digital.
