ZesteR September 26, 2009 Share ZesteR Member September 26, 2009 Hey guys, long time no talk! First off, how is everyone? Secondly, I recently researched and finally built a new PC. My old one is about 6 years old. Here are the Specs: CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 2.8ghz MOBO: MSI 770-C45 AM3 Socket PSU: OCZ 500W RAM: GSKILL 4GB DDR3 1600MHZ Video Card: VisionTek ATI 3870 (Was my brother's old one) HDD: 2x 750gb Player: Sony CD/DVD-RW Tower: Cooler Master Elite 300 mid tower CPU Cooler: Corsair C50 Water cooler OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (legit) I was on a price budget and found some good deals, and my bro helping me out kept the price around <500. I have yet to find stable OC'ing settings, but the mobo offers a lot of them! Which is confusing actually. So far, I've managed 2.8 --> 3.2, but I've read people have gotten it up to 3.9ghz. So I'm shooting for that. The water cooler's radiator mounts on the back via 120mm fan mounting holes, but the top of the radiator hit the bottom of the PSU, so I had to drill 4 new holes that were lower(pic). Here are some links to pics: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00550.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00551.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00552.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00553.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00554.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00555.jpg http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/80132/IMG00556.jpg I finally can play Crysis (which I bought about a year ago). I'm still playing TF2, done with CSS. I'm waiting for Natural Selection 2 to come out. (Part of the alpha/beta testing!) I miss going to the LAN parties, but life doesn't allot for it right now. Mainly because I'm full time school and work atm. To get my fix, I have started my own in between semesters. Good talking with you guys/gals! Preacher September 28, 2009 Share Preacher Member September 28, 2009 I wouldn't stray far from intel right now myself, but being a former AMD fanboy I understand. Plus it is a bit cheaper. I really lucked out and my mom paid me for some work I did for her (insisted I take it lol) and I went with a new I5 system w./ Intel board and 2.66ghz quad core and 4gb DDR3 and then Lousiest stepped up to the plate and hooked me up with a nice GTX260 video card. It was almost heart breaking to have my PC die on me and everyone around me jumped in and helped me out so I feel quite loved. I'll be upping my RAM to 8gb asap though because I'm just silly like that It is good to see ya, we should have a nostalgia night where we get all the old schoolers together and play some 1.6 cs_italy and de_dust2 for a few hours. ZesteR September 28, 2009 Author Share ZesteR Member September 28, 2009 Thanks guys! I thought about the i5, but i'm pleased with my old AMD, so I wanted to say my "thanks" to them! That's an awesome rig! and 8gb is cool. Got anything that is going to use that much? I barely hit 2.5gb. But I dont do photo editing or video encoding. Preacher September 28, 2009 Share Preacher Member September 28, 2009 If you have a lot of things running and you also want to play a graphic intensive game like Fallout 3 or STALKER then you will see 4gb isn't enough. I had 8gb DDR2 in my dead rig and it was a no-lag machine. I was about $8 short to be able to get 8gb with my new rig. I'm doing a wedding this weekend and will most likely clear at least $100 so I may get another couple of stick with that $$.
