Yortz May 26, 2015 Author Share Yortz Member May 26, 2015 (edited) SSD for later and thinking of changing traditional HDD to SSHD (1GB 5400rpm). A tech savvy colleague of mine said that it's the best of both worlds (sorta). Capacity of an HDD and not so far away speed of an SSD, a few bucks above an HDD but a lot below an SSD. Update: Never mind the SSHD choice lol. Update 2: Are cooling pads good to use? Edited May 26, 2015 by Yortz
Madvillain May 27, 2015 Share Madvillain Member May 27, 2015 They can help but that rig should have good cooling already, just keep it on a flat surface and you should be ok. Also hit those vents with some canned air/an air compressor every once in a while.
Yortz June 10, 2015 Author Share Yortz Member June 10, 2015 Haven't bought it yet, but I found this MSI GT72 Dominator G-1445, basically the same specs, except it's 5th gen i7 processor, Nvidia 970m 3GB Optimus Technology and G-Sync. Madvillain June 11, 2015 Share Madvillain Member June 11, 2015 That is pretty tempting, that 5th gen should run cooler and the 970 will be with the Gsync.
Yortz June 11, 2015 Author Share Yortz Member June 11, 2015 Might settle with that, even though it's only msata ssd and 1tb hdd, plus it's easier to open it up to clean the dirt and dust off fans. I think it's with nvidia gpu and intel hd graphics, which sucks.
Madvillain June 11, 2015 Share Madvillain Member June 11, 2015 It should run just fine, most intel based machines use the intel/nvidia combo
Yortz June 12, 2015 Author Share Yortz Member June 12, 2015 My old Sager 8278-S was also intel/nvidia combo, and sometimes my games' fps will go down from 60 to 18 randomly. And when I play old games like CnC Tiberium Wars, Red Alert 3, they play fine but their expansions don't, like 15-20 FPS unless I change the settings to low-medium. Madvillain June 12, 2015 Share Madvillain Member June 12, 2015 Yeah that would be frustrating.. I imagine the majority gaming laptops are designed that way for a little extra horsepower.
