NOFX February 11, 2004 Share NOFX Member February 11, 2004 (edited) Below I have two benchmarks, One is my current P4 setup and the other is my previous AMD setup, both are using the same video card. The AMD with only 512 RAM still benchmarked higher. But my question is this. Look at the difference in the FPS when you add sound to these benchmarks. I thought Nvidia nforce sound was supposed to be really good. For real, does Nforce sound just suck that much compared to a decent sound card? For some reason it doesnt list my sound card, but Im using a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Also, how come there is about a 19 FPS difference when the sound test is ran with no sounds? If you add sound to these tests then obvisouly your FPS drops quite a bit. It looks like 3Dmark bases its benchmarks numbers on running with no sound, because even though the P4 setup owned the AMD setup in sound, the AMD still won in the end. Birdman February 12, 2004 Share Birdman Member February 12, 2004 Well since a 2.2Ghz AMD is labeled as a 3200+ that would be one reason why its competing really well with your Intel rig. As for the sound tests beats me.
[Mmmm]Homer February 12, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member February 12, 2004 Because the onboard nForce sound was using more CPU power?
NOFX February 12, 2004 Author Share NOFX Member February 12, 2004 thats what I was thinking homer, I knew onboard wasnt good, but I didnt think it affected it that much.
Birdman February 12, 2004 Share Birdman Member February 12, 2004 thats what i was gonna say, but then i remembered how the nforce platform was promoted for having good audio that didnt suck up processor cycles. Moral of the story. AMD is teh win always and 4 ever.
