80GB down the tubes..

Recommended Posts

Recently upgraded my HD.. Took the secondary out before any changes Just to make sure nothing happened. Re-did my primary drives, got everything back up and running, installed the secondary 80 and much to my dismay, it says 0 used 0 free.. File system= raw. I did change jumpers, but since have tried every single jumper config I could.. The system is running XP professional. Is ther a chance that the old 80 was FAT32 and now the system isn't recognizing it anymore since the primary is now NTFS? I really don't wanna lose what was on the drive.. Any suggestions?

Well, XP will see FAT32 as well as NTFS, so that shouldn't be the issue.

If it is on the same channel as the new primary, make sure the new primary is set to be the MASTER and the secondary is set to be SLAVE.

ie, you want to make sure the jumpers are correct on BOTH drives.

Also, where does it tell you "0 used 0 free.. File system= raw" ?

I assume the drive is being correctly recoginized by the BIOS.

Once you boot into XP, right click on MY COMPUTER and go down to MANAGE.

From there, double click on DISK MANAGEMENT. Do you see 2 physical disks? If so, does it give you any details such as size, format, etc. ?
