  1. Well, Full Sail is up to $36k or $38k now, I think. Yeah, just that for one year, and it's only a 12 month course. They've got a new program running down there now for the Game Design majors. For their final project, they have to create a game, (supposed to be "sellable") and now they expanded the program to include the alumni from the audio and animation courses. The programming students can enlist the help of the alumni (who get intern credit for helping) to add sound and 3D animation to the games. Imagine bein in school and having a professional sound crew and an animation crew trained in Maya working on your game! I really want to go, but I've got a wife to provide for at the moment. I haven't taken a look at what kind of loans/grants I can get though...so I really don't know if it's possible.
  2. keep it commin homey, just recently decided to build myself a pc, gonna take awhile though. I have this problem with saving money, see. If it's there for no apparent reason, it gets spent on something unneeded. So I think my best bet is to buy parts when I can afford them, build it slowly over a few months. I'm pretty set on AMD, I want an Athalon 64, but maybe I'll just get an Athalon XP 2800+ - 3000+. What's this Athalon FX I've heard about? Of course, with that, I'll be getting an nForce2 (or 3) motherboard. I've just always been a little scared to build a computer. I can take them apart, switch components between comps, and put them back together, but I've heard of people screwing up when building their own computers. Things not working for some unknown reason, stuff like that. Guess I got enough resources to solve me problems though. Thanks for postin this stuff, Homer.
  3. cool idea Rev, kinda like that Nationstates game some of us played a while back, but in a fully rendered, playable world. don't know that game Kurtz. there's a mod for UT2003 called Deathball, probably the most high-energy game I've ever played. Worth buyin UT2003 just for that mod. It's got a lot of new stuff since I played it, but basically it's uber-football/soccer. You have a ball, field's set up like soccer, but you pass the ball up/down field like football. It's one hell of an adrenaline rush! ****************************************************** Here's another idea I've been working out for awhile: A MMORPG that ends. Based heavily on the Highlander movie series. It would actually be a not-so-massivly multiplayer. Create your character and journey into an enormous world filled with unique npcs. In addition to all those npcs living in many cities on various continents, you have a limited number of human players. Say, 200 per server. Those 200 journey around gaining experiance, finding loot, fighting some monsters, playing your normal rpg. UNTIL, they run into another human player. Then they have the option of fighting to the death, or perhaps making friends and travelling together. The object of the game is to be the last human player left. Naturally many players would ally themselves in pairs or even small groups for protection, but in the end, there can be only one. Killing another human player gives you some extra boost in some way, sweet new loot, or stat boost, maybe magical powers. Once killed, you cannot rejoin the game until it ends, and a new one starts. However, to keep interest, there would also be servers running a free for all server that can handle huge numbers of players, and doesn't ever end. Players could die, and respawn there like a normal MMORPG, to pass the time while they wait for the tournament servers to restart. A cool way to tell who's a human and who's a npc would be to make the human players, the competitors, these behemoths fully twice as large as the npcs. Like Titans come down to earth to play. The world would be unique in MMORPGs, not a fantasy world, but a world closely resembling our own, complete with cities. Maybe even have multiple eras. Some servers running a midevil world, some running a 18th century world, some in modern times. Players could even ally themselves with npc factions and participate in historic events, such as being a sergeant in the Roman Legion, or joining the Native American's to "welcome" Columbus, choosing a side in the Civil War. And, in the thick of battle, perhaps you'll spot another Titan across the field. Imagine the thrill of you and him crossing the battlefield in slow motion, cutting a path through the little soldiers without a second thought, until it's just you and him, face to face, surrounded by battling peons. Only one of you will leave this battlefield.
  4. richard Tracy. Pretty cool movie, I bet it would make a great game. I'm thinking Grand Theft Auto style world, realistic looking world, yet a touch of cartoonishness. You'd have your various villans running different gangs, and then the police, backing you up. You, being detective richard Tracy. You'd be able to go into the buildings, unlike in GTA, the era would be the 40s-50s, not sure exactly when it was. Swingin soundtrack, awsome cars, and LOTS of Tommy guns. The plot from the movie would make a good game by itself, we could add on to it though. If you haven't seen the movie, here's a quick synopsis. Big Boy is the newest gangster in town, he's made plans to unite all the waring gangs under him, and bring the fight to the cops. Tracy is thinking of settling down with his long time girlfriend. Being the city's best detective, he's gangster target #1, naturally. From there you build scenarios. Multiplayer (games aren't worth buying without multiplayer, in my opinion) would be great. A server hosts one of several maps (each map being a different city) and players can join different sides. There would be the police, and then two or three rival gangs. Players spawn in the team's hidout (a club, or warehouse, or police station) and choose a weapon, get some transportation, and then hit the town. Lots of NPCs to rob/kill, maybe even talk to some of them, and fierce battles for control of certain parts of the city. That might be a good option, teams could win a map by controlling a percentage of the city. But with the size of the maps, it might take hours. There would, of course, be the option of just a free-for-all roam around and kill everything that moves play, or perhaps a few staged missions, where each gang has a set mission to perform. Basically, I just like the era of the Tommy gun, and the gun itself. This seemed like a good story to incorporate that. ************* lol, the forums changed his name to richard
  5. I really wish I had $34k to pay for education in game design/programming. But, I don't right now. However, I think an awful lot (especially at work) about what games I would make if I could. Tonight I thought, why not share my ideas on the Mmmm forums, and hear what others ideas for cool games are. So here's the official "games I wish someone would make" thread. Lets hear some ideas.
  6. okay, so we like Savage. What about other games!?! A lot of the community is switching to Desert Combat. Do we have enough interest to have a separate server running that full time? Also what about America's Army, I'm tellin you guys, this game is tight. Much more team oriented then CS. Great for LAN parties, and free. The Army will send boxes of CDs to LANs.
  7. sweet, i'll take some of that corsair memory no...seriously....i want some....
  8. yeah, I'd play, assuming this copy I'm currently downloading works. I've already got the BF patch and the full DC .5 client. Just trying to get the actual BF 1942 game, lol. Was going to buy it, but had an unexpected bill come up.
  9. I'm havin trouble connecting to servers. The map loads, but then kicks me back to the main menu or the deployment screen. When I get it figured out, I'll be back on the TeamAMD server. Good group, check em out, link's in my sig.
  10. hmmm.....missed a lot....let me address a few things that stood out to me in the previous posts. Sexual immorallity, wrong. Think we agree on that. However, what is sexual immorallity? Dunno. I don't want to sound like a hippie here, but really, it isn't our place to judge things like whether oral sex is wrong. Smoking, drinking, drugs... as Ben Harper put it, "what's from the earth is of the greatest birth. " I don't totally agree with that, but so long as it's not controlling your life, and ruining your relationships with those close to you, I think there are other things God is more concerned about. About your aunt, Watch...sad story. I can't tell you if she's in heaven or not. There is a verse that may help though. I'm sorry, I don't remember exactly where it is, Hebrews, I think. It states that those men and women who did not know God (in the old testament) but knew what was right in their hearts and followed it, to them it was counted as righteousness.

    Drums

Pearl Export = Yeah, I'm a drummer. Drumming is cool, but keep in mind that if you join a band, there are some drawbacks. First off, you've got the heaviest rig, by far. And YOU have to carry it 90% of the time. Sometimes your bandmate's will be nice and help you bring equipment from the car to the stage, but picking it up, packing it, and setting it up when you get to a gig, as well as tear down, are your job, and drums are not the easiest thing to move. Second, and this one only applies to those who like the spotlight, the drummer is in the back. You seldom get noticed. Girls flock to the singer and guitar player, and even occasionally the bassist. Not the drummer. Maybe one girl will venture back to see the drummer. Usually, she's the best one anyway, though. She's a little above mauling the hottie up front, and seeks a little conversation, plus she's shy, so she goes to the guy who seems to also be shy, or at least doesn't have any friends around, the drummer. Learning to read notes is pointless. Listen to lots of music, your favorite kinds, and try to figure out what the drummer is doing. The most basic rock beat you can learn, and must learn, is this: on the hi-hat- 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and | 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and | .... on the snare- 2 4 | 2 4 | .... on the bass- 1 3 | 1 3 | ... that's it. keep repeating that, and every once in awhile add in a different measure. two tapps with the snare on "4 and" or a different bass drum pattern. You'll learn lots of different variations to make a totally unique groove, but they all build off that single pattern. Learn it, learn it well.
  12. lol, always amusing Dave. lets hear some more.
  13. hi mike, hi dave *pssst* they're my best buddies in real life
  14. hey, buyin BF1942 this weekend probably, do I need the expansions to play DC??
  15. ease up people, no need to get riled. this is a discussion of viewpoints, not a flaming war. my point about moving the mountains, was simply that I believe it CAN be done. contrary to you, watchtower, I don't believe any of the strongest Christians have tried. It's only the foolish ones who want superman powers that would try. And that's not having faith, it's hoping for something you don't need. As you said, there is no need to move mountains. But suppose one was in my way, and I couldn't get around it or over it, then yes, I believe if I had complete faith in God (and yes, auggy, it is possible to have that much faith) then I don't see why he wouldn't move that mountain for me. But you're right, there is no need for us to go around moving mountains. However, if God has given his people (Christians) the power to do something as amazing as moving mountains, or parting a sea, or walking on water, then we have no excuse to not do the smaller things, like healing sick or lame people. As for what auggy said about God not being proven... I have trouble with your viewpoints when you state you are a Christian, and then limit God to only what can be proven by our human minds. You say God has not proven himself, yet what were all those miracles that Jesus did? Who allowed the Israelites fresh out of Egypt with no knowledge of warfare, to conquer all the military might of Canaan? For that matter, who brought the Israelites out of Egypt? Is the Bible simply farie tales to you? If that's the case, why believe any of it? If your god can't do anything for you that you or other humans can't do, why bother with him?
  16. We going to have a whole site dedicated to FragFest? It's a good idea, as large as they're getting. Could put up a whole separate forum there, pics page, and of course the sponsors page.
  17. so when are we all gonna invade a server and play?
  18. Just played Savage online for a few hours, great fun! I'll take one of those keys, if ya got em,
  19. I believe man can move mountains with a single command. God probably won't give the power to do it if you're just showing off. But if you believe without a doubt that God will move that mountain (and yes, I mean literal mountain) and command it to be moved, than it'll move. Same with the beast, why is it so hard for us to believe in this stuff? "Cuz it can't happen." No, it CAN happen, we've just never seen anything like it happen. THAT is being closed minded! Presented with an idea that is beyond anything we've ever seen or imagined, we immediatly are against it. And thus so many people miss out on the excitment that belief in God and his abilities can give.
  20. We've talked every year about adding more game options to the FragFest. Anyone interested in doing it again this year? We're already going to be spending some time playing Savage, might as well throw in a few more options. America's Army: Operations is a fun game, more tactical then CS, more realistic, and better graphics. It's also FREE, so we could have copies there to distribute. If we had enough interest in the game, I could even pimp our FragFest over on some America's Army clan sites I've been visiting. Get some more people. Also, the Desert Combat mod of Battlefield 1942 is gaining a chunk of our communities support. I haven't played it, but as soon as I can get BF1942, I'm going to start. I'm sure we'd have a large group interested in playing that as well. Other than that, I believe there is a multiplayer demo of the game Call of Duty, that we could have availible to distribute, or if enough people actually own the game by then, we could just play the full version. Thoughts, comments, critisizm?
  21. Anyone played this? Pretty cool game, made by the good old US Army. And distributed for FREE. That's right, a good quality FPS, for free. Basically, it's ultra-realistic CS. If you've played Operation Flashpoint, it's a lot like that. The maps are outdoor, and at first they seem huge, but they're really not. Like CS you have objectives, bombing various points, assaulting a bridge, etc. There's a new addition comming out soon called America's Army: Special Forces, that looks really sweet. Check out the screenshots here: America's Army Website
  22. It was mentioned a couple posts up that if you take the book of Revelations literally, it "leads to all kinds of problems." I'd like to know what these problems are. I believe Revelations can be taken literally. Why believe in God if he's not all powerful? And if you believe he's all powerful, then there isn't much of a stretch to believe that he has created things not imagined on earth. And if one believes in angels, then naturally there are demons as well. And if there are angels and demons, it is natural to believe that they are even now waging real war around us. The Bible talks about some heavenly beings that are beyond outlandish. Like the creatures that spend eternity doing nothing but worshipping at the feet of God, creatures covered in eyes, all over their body, with wings to cover their head and their feet. Many things in the Bible are far beyond what today's fantasy writers would consider plausible. But who are we to say what God can/can't do? If we do that, God becomes nothing more than one of the Olympians, who's behaviour is changed everytime another poet writes about his deeds, a god who can be tricked, or even fought with and chased away by man. Or worse yet, we make God into a little wooden figurine, carved by our own hands. What power is there in that?
  23. actually, I do believe the earth is around 10k years old. I did a lot of research on this awhile ago, 5, 6 years, so I'm a little fuzzy on the specific scientific content, but basically, the Carbon dating system is flawed. It has to do with the fact that Carbon (which is measured to determine the age of an object) is released when an organism dies. Say you have a tree, and it dies. Carbon immediatly starts dispersing into the air. By the time someone comes around to take a measurement, maybe a quarter, half, most of the carbon is gone, making the measurement flawed. Here, I did some research. Take a look at this page, http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a391b8e886a42.htm. One of the things they mention in there is how scientists dated rocks in the Grand Canyon. This is what happened: "A popular and supposedly foolproof method was used on two lava flows in the Grand Canyon that should be ideal for radioactive age estimation. The results were similarly bad. Young basalt rock at the Canyon's top produced an age estimate 270 million years older than ancient basalt rock at the Canyon's bottom. The problem seems to arise from basic wrong assumptions in the method (rubidium-strontium isochron). If such a sophisticated method is so flawed, geologist Dr. Steven Austin rightly wonders, "Has anyone successfully dated a Grand Canyon rock?"" This site too, http://www.apologeticspress.org/defdocs/rr...93/r&r9310a.htm, has an easier to read description of what happens exactly, and the problems with it. Basically the most glaring problem is that the dating process assumes that the object being dated has maintained a constant rate of decay. It does not take into account any minerals entering/leaving the object other than the parent and daughter components being dated. From my Christian perspective, this validates the flood of Noah, since a massive dissaster like that would greatly immbalance the particles in sediment, making much of the earth seem older. That's strictly from me though, I don't have any professional evidence to back that up.
