  1. Just waiting for email response from HP to ascertain if they can help with resolving this matter, if not, it's going back to the shop - I will need this up-coming break - but the good thing about the experience, I found that Windows 8, although convoluted in it's initial setup seemed to be haphazrd, is in fact far superior than Window 7, but not as good as XP lol
  2. Going away for a few days on Thursday to rest and recupperate at a Buddhist retreat

Sounds wonderful, I love Buddhism. It's a religion, without all the judgement, dogma, and patriarchy. Build up some good energy while you're out there!

  3. No Disks were provided - however, did check system drivers and what do yu know, the 2 HDMI ports have not been recognised - tried installing them manually, just won't have it - telephone tech guy, he said to try and download drivers manually, which I did, but it was chaos, the Nvidia graphics card was over-written and deleted, would not let me re-install it, had to re-boot the system from scratch. Re-installing everything now - just checked on Drivers (Device Manager) and what do you know - the HDMI and DVI ports are listed as unkown - tried updating, but machine is not having any of that. Spoke to guy in shop again, having the machine replaced - that's going to have to wait for a week - going for a well deserved break this Thrusday - off to a Budhist retreat for the weekend.
  4. been doing that all day - 145 updates - the 1 Nvidia update was 145MB
  5. Having trouble setting up mulitple displays - both monitors work perfectly fine, but computer does not seem to recognise that 2 are connected and only shows 1 monitor attached in both Nvidia and Win8 settings - what am I doing wrong? I have tried all combinations of attaching leads in various ports. btw Zero, it was 'start menu x'
  6. very nice indeed playing L4D - graphics are perfectly fine, very little lag and it doesn't take me long to load in - no more losing my spot - woo-hoo
  7. Thanks guys - leaving the video card alone as it's a new machine and got a year guarantee, not going to mess around with components as this will invalidate that. Found a program already zero, but your recommendation is so much better - cheers.
  8. This topic is getting side-tracked - time to lock?
  9. It was awful that day, made worse especially when Dude raged lol - we need another admin this side of the pond - trying to get Tainted to continue with his admin app
  10. Received cheque from the insurance company (expletive deleted) today. Having charged me £135 ($200) for excess and to send back my hard drives, and dictated where I had to buy the new computer, I was limited as to the range the shop had to offer. Intel® Core i5-3350P CPU @ 3.10GHz 8GB RAM 64x64 Nvidia GeForce GT 630 Win 8 Going to take a few hours I guess to get used to the setup and a lot longer to re-install all software.
  11. I got my new computer today - details in tech forum

  12. Turned computer on hoping it would feel better, but there was a loud bang from the PSU, it's now in the hands of the insurance company. Will be a couple of weeks until it gets resolved.
  13. Just won't boot, nothing happens, except lights go on, fans work, but no more beep, monitor says there is no signal and yes I re-checked all cables etc.
  14. Built in 2007 at a cost of £690 ($1,000 approx) computer has finally given up the ghost. For that price, I would have thought it still had a few years left, but apparently not - It will turn on, lights and fans working as normal, but will not boot-up. Fortunately for me, I do regular back-ups of work, but have lost several hundred hours of music and video/film production - the university I work for (part-time) are not happy to say the least - I'm grateful for that, but having spent so much on the computer and literally a few thousand on software, i don't know where to begin to find the funds to replace it all. I just hope that when I do get another one, the software will be compatible with whatever OS I decide on - looking at Win7, still not convinced that Win8 is any good. I have a vista laptop (even worse than Millennium Edition), but it works, however, playing L4D2 on it is not so good, it's depressing playing it with poor control of movement (visuals, graphics etc are good though) but it is detrimental to the team I am on. I can cope being on infected, but if no one new me here, I probably would be banned for what would seem like griefing when playing as a survivor. If there is a spark of hope anyone can offer, I will be eternally grateful as I would like to try and save my 8th Symphony, 3rd Piano Concerto, 2 Operas and a few other ditties. I will pay you with a dedication, that's all I can offer at the moment, as the place I am living in is taking up virtually every single penny and with the new contract (zero hours) I signed with the university which begins from the 9th June (coincidentally, that's the start of the summer holiday, I will no longer be paid during holiday periods.
  15. All other games work fine. Just had a notification from Steam saying that my graphics card is not supported, whatever that means, Idk, if it's unsupported how have I been playing this game all this time? Is there anything I can turn off/disable in game settings to help? However, the game works fine in single campaign mode
  16. LOL. All drivers present and correct and updated
  17. Just when I thought everything was ok, it's not. L4D2 is having serious issues with graphics card. I run several music and video software programs without any trouble whatsoever, but it does not like this game for some reason. Are there any settings I could tweak to stabilise this until I get a new card installed?
  18. Success, after speaking to Crasx, I found a loose cable, reconnected it and I'm back up. Thanks all, esp Crasxxxxxxxxxxx
