  1. Some generic help, but works 90% of the time: Download HijackThis, boot into safe mode, run Hijackthis and hit scan. Check off anything that looks stupid and hit fix. Ad-aware/Spybot & your favorite antivirus will clean any leftovers without issue.
  2. They were trying to use the levi to pancake me, but check out this smooth getaway...
  3. Google the "megahertz myth". If there's any reason that AMD processors have been cheaper it's because Intel has such a big name that without a very obvious advantage (Money talks!), nobody would even look at AMD.
  4. Athlon 2800+ Asus A7N8X-X (nForce 2) Mobo 120GB Maxtor drive (very quiet device, I must say) SBLive! 5.1 Sound Altec Lansing ATP3 2.1 Speakers that I don't get to use because nobody else in the house appreciates explosions or my taste in music. 512MB PC3200 godknowswhomadeit RAM ATi Radeon 7500 that I have to run at 640x480 to get decent framerates on (though I find low res makes the shock rifle easier to use ) The cheapest laser mouse Logitech makes A yellowing Hewlett-Packard keyboard on which I must use the arrow keys to move, as WASD have to be hammered on to work. RCA Headphones from Wal-Mart A floppy drive taken from a wasted 486-SX. Noname microphone that hasn't worked since last year. Case cooling with four fans ripped from broken power supplies and hack-wired with a lot of electrician's tape. A bag of cotton taped to the inside to keep noise down. Foam. . . Dust.. . . I'll stop now.
  5. Spyware? Download HijackThis, boot into safe mode, run Hijackthis and hit scan. Check off anything that looks stupid and hit fix. Ad-aware and Spybot will clean any leftovers without issue. Then.. A ) Don't use Internet Explorer or get a damn good web filter. B ) Stop installing all of the free pr0n downloaders.
  6. Yay! I made it into a screenshot! What??? The AVRiL has a secondary fire?!? /me runs to botmatch.
  7. Yeah it's great to play with no lag now (well, other than the usual ping delay). Was also a pleasant surprise to find Frostbite in the rotation earlier. And if there are to be any other game modes added, then double domination definately has my vote. I know that 4 player DD on my friend's xbox is hella fun, but with 18 players...
  8. Why, MS-DOS, of course! How else is one to play Commander Keen?
  9. One called ONS-2Fort is probably the most unusual map I've played. It's pretty small - actually it's more like a deathmatch level with a handful of powernodes. Only problem is that it gets really old because it's balanced to the point that without a quick countdown to overtime, a single match can last like an hour. ONS-Cell is a pretty funky one too. It's a large dark stadium with most of the powernodes in short tunnels off of the main area. A cool map. ONS-TopGun consists of three islands - one for each core, and one with a lone powernode on it. And a ton of Raptors. A neat map, but very unusual. Still fun though. ONS-TankWars is another single powernode map. Each team gets something like ten tanks, and there's pretty much no strategy involved. Fun as hell. ONS-Torlanights is a favorite of mine, right next to ArcticStronghold and Severance. It's Torlan, but very dark (except for in the bases). You can sneak up on people if you're quiet. Or see turn around to see a blinding light and you get to know how a deer feels during its final moments. The cricket ambience is nice too.
  10. Speaking of bots, how do you tell who's a bot short of observing the player or memorizing the bots' default names? The only ones that I know are bots are the ones that have names from UT99.
  11. The lag is quite frustrating sometimes, and it seems to be at its worst with a full server. Any improvements on the horizon? </nag>
  12. Howabout ONS-ChainsIsle? Small map with lots of mayhem, and needs a decent team strategy if you want to win. Even the bots play well on it. Was a fun map to play on the Damage Inc server back when I could actually find people on there. You can give it a shot here (Link), just extract the file to your maps folder and play as usual. (that link is on my ISP hosting; I don't know how much transfer I get with it so please be kind)
  13. So that's what causes that. Hm. Sucks a lot, as I like to use the Hardware 3D Audio to hear things coming up from behind, though I need to hear the team talking as well.
  14. You rang? I can't decide between flak cannon and shock rifle. The shock rifle because it throws people back and gets them disoriented, and the flak cannon because it still works well when there's lag. Of course, there's always the moment when you hop out of your flaming vehicle, forget that you've got the redeemer armed, and fire a small nuke at your opponent three metres away.
  15. It's a 200 MB package, but at least there are torrents and a few fast servers this time. Sadly, there are only three Onslaught maps. Pick a link at the Atari forums or be lazy and use this server.
  16. One fire mode one is a shield - helpful for long jumps from the sky. With the other fire mode, hold the button to charge up and then run into people. Funnage!
  17. This might not be as spiffy an intro as Duma's there, but I thought I'd drop by and shout a thanks for the server; it kicks much donkey.
