Instead of working on finishing a project that is due in 4 hours I decided to look up Gears of War on IGN.com. Game came out earlier but I kept forgetting to look up gameplay vids. IGN has some HD gameplay vids. IGN Insider came with my comcast upgrade (atleast comcast upgrade was good for something). I felt like sharing these with you guys. Unreal Tournament 2007 PC preorder up on Walmart.com for release 01/05/2007 at $49.82. May just be speculation on Walmart's part but this is the 1st I have seen it from a major store. There have always been small online stores have been throughing up preorders with wildly differing release dates.

So Epic just concluded a large viral marketing campaign, with xbox live members being spammed cryptic Gears-related messages from in-game characters leading to a big announcement. The end result? Slightly to heavily angered mobs of GOW fans who spent time trying to decode the damn thing. An Xbox live demo for Gears released in a few weeks? That'd be a big announcement. Nah - just the release date of November - which - for the most part - everyone already knew. Oh - and that the game will retail for a substantial chunk of change ($60 to $70 I guess) So - happy campers there (Note to Epic: a viral marketing campaign that leads to the announcement of the release date that most people had already more or less known about is perhaps not the best use of a viral marketing campaign...) Why post this nonsense here? Well, consider: would Epic want to launch what they would hope to be a major new franchise at around the same time that they launch the heavily awaited next UT incarnation? Yeah - probably not. They aren't even releasing a demo for GOW at all - they are busting posterior on GOW right now to make the November launch - I imagine this is taking away from UT2K7 as well. For UT2K7 they may be banking on piggybacking on the consumer release of Vista as well (ride that Redmond marketing wave!) - What? - it's supposed to be out in January? Info *not* in the interview but worth noting The new Levi - each turret is a dif. weapon (not sure how that will work - sounds like variations of chain gun turret, shock, etc.) but each turret also has a 2ndary shield function like the Paladin - That will help quite a bit for defense against raptors and the like. 150-ish meg file - mp4 - but at least you have folks who know what questions to ask doing the asking one of the producers. Seems there is a helmet pickup in the game now as well (temporary power-up or takes a limited amount of damage) - why for? - prevents headshots! http://download.beyondunreal.com/fileworks...view_e32006.mp4 No - you can't right click and save as - gotta click through and do the filefront thing to get this. -Fk

E3 Stage Demos Click on Unreal Tournament 2007 E3 2006 Stage Show Demonstration. About 13 mins but has good detail about how Warfare mode will work. After 3:30 minute mark or so they start showing the game. Video highlights: 3:30 Footage starts showing terrain 4:05 Weapons locker & base 4:39 Terrain destruction?!? 5:20 Hover boards! Woot! Hopefully this means no more walking across those huge BACONing maps. 6:20 Hellbender. Seems pretty quick and responsive 6:35 Goliath drive-by 6:58 New Turret shooting at Necris vehics. 7:45 Talks about Vehicle CTF with Vehics and Hoverboards instead of translocators. No weapon while on hoverboard. 7:50 Walkers!!! Run for the hills!!! 11:15 Talks about match making & clan support within the game??? Will help noobs know which servers to join based on skill level. Hopefully that'll cut down on the "Wentz Hacks" comments.
