You would have to consider mark up both ways. They mark up cars... but they also mark up parts for the car. You would also need tools to put the car together, and check pressure in brake lines and the like.

I do not think you could come close by doing it yourself, especially if you figure in the time it would take and the tools needed. A new engine for today's cars is going to run about 3-4k alone, rims and tires another 2k, frame about 5k, tranny about 1-2k. So we are close to 15k already and only have about 500 parts to go hehe.

 

I do not buy New myself, I probably will never buy new unless I win the lotto, the loss from driving it off the lot is unreal nowadays. I prefer a nice used car myself.
