Penty November 24, 2004 Share Penty Member November 24, 2004 I got my vacation sell back money early this year, today in fact. So the question becomes; build my new system now or wait until the end of December. Argh! this is the first time I wish I didn't have extra cash. Do you guys think it's worth waiting for PCIe and nForce4 or not?
TeK November 24, 2004 Share TeK Member November 24, 2004 I think PCI-e and Nforce4 boards are going to own. The ASUS SLI board looks sick but your going to be paying a pretty penny just for the board alone. Its ur choice. I spent 1200 on my rig and its a pretty high tier computer which I can't even use yet. Really your choice but those SLI boards are going to own a lot. AGP seems to be slightly faster than PCI-E atm anyways.

In the coming years PCI will go the way of ISA is today and PCI-e will be the common place.
ishmael November 25, 2004 Share ishmael Member November 25, 2004 it all depends if you are going to be building a top of the line system and how much you are tossing into it. yes, its worth it..but those boards and cards are going to cost a sweet penny. if i remember there isn't much of a performance difference between pci-e and agp at this piont, we aren't really using the extra pipelines. General J November 25, 2004 Share General J Member November 25, 2004 So I am guessing, PCI-e yields higher bandwidth potentials then? Instead of going to, say, AGP 16X they are going with PCI-e?
Penty November 26, 2004 Author Share Penty Member November 26, 2004 PCIe adds more bandwidth, plus it is bi-directional. So in theory your video card could access the system memory directly.
DJ Premier November 26, 2004 Share DJ Premier Member November 26, 2004 It also provides more power. So you don't have to connect a power supply to your video card, like some AGP cards require these days. I don't think PCI-e will be mainstream until xmas next year. I'll probably upgrade in late 2005.
Penty December 6, 2004 Author Share Penty Member December 6, 2004 WhileI'm still debating which MB to buy; ZipZoomFly.com is talking preorders for both the Asus and MSI nforce4-SLI boards. Asus A8N-SLI MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI To tide me over I went ahead and purchased the OCZ Modstream 520W power supply over at excaliburPC.com. I really like the fact that it is both atx 2.03 and has detachable cables.

Penty December 9, 2004 Author Share Penty Member December 9, 2004 Well incountered my first problem. The CM Stacker is not designed with the latest PS w/120mm Fans in mind. Part of the PS cage has a bar across where the fan grill sits. No real problem a pair of tin snipes worked but thought I'd give you guys a heads up.
