bullet's lag woes

Recommended Posts

John:

Please leave the map vote out, you get in the mood for certian maps that some people don't know, then the map vote pops up and the newbs pick dust. We have an admin on most of the time now and i'm not sure about the others but i'll ask for sugestions and build a vote or say "ok we'll do this map then that next" but maps like contra, cpl_fire, thematrix, and 3rd street, are great maps and people love them but don't know their name.

Bullet:

people used to say that i lagged too much to hit and it really tinkled me off. I people to just be mad without reason when i kill them so i started tweeking on stuff people told me about and it fixed it. so try this in your console.

cl_updaterate "101"

cl_cmdrate "100.000000"

also check if your getting loss and choke with

cl_netgraph 3 or maybe it's net_graph 3 but either way you should be able to ask in game and get the answer.

i moved the cmdrate up to 60, any higher and choke shoots up to the 50's everytime i take a step for some reason.

i wonder why i wasnt lagging that one time on logistic assault. doesnt seem to be a bittorrent thing since the other comps havent been running bt lately. have i lagged this week?

my set up is ...

a shuttle 2.8 P4 w/ 9500 pro. (i got a 9800 pro sitting in teh other comp but that comp can barely run source for some odd reason ... tried switching the 9800 pro to the shuttle but i can't get enough power out of this shuttle PSU)

im behind a linksys wireless router, about 4 other comps connected wirelessly to the same router. got my sysmantec software firewall which is supposed to allow all CS:S/HL2 traffic through ...

sooooooo i dunno whats causing the lag :[ tried forwarding some ports from the router to this comp that i found on the steam forums but that didnt work. i'll try setting my rates higher again. i start at 30 for each and keep increasing the settings until i get choke/loss.

bullet i dont think your problem is related to the game i think u are having isp troubles. u should visit www.dslreports.com sign up and do the line monitor thing it montiors your net 24 hrs checking all routers and etcc, too see if maybe u have a bad router. they have lots of other tools that can help u track your problem down but i realy do doubt that the problem is with the game if it was it would 100% of the time and not just hear and there.

yeah i would sugest the same. buy a RJ-45 cable and conect it to your router. and make sure that the other computers that are on your wireless network are not on somthing like napster that will constantly drag down your bandwith. Another problem could be that thu did'nt encrypt your wirless network and you have some Bandwith leaches near by(wireless won't stop at your wall) Wireless is a cool idea (I have a wireless router that i'm not using) but when playing a game that decides life or death in miliseconds i'll run the cable. most motherboards and wireless routers have the RJ-45 jacks so give it a try.

if you've got a 6mb connection and a 54mb wireless g network, at full load you'd be around 17%...just what you posted. i'm guessing, but those lows are probably your dropped signals (packet loss). in game, that makes for a dancing bullet.

plug-in :D

no clue, i got cox cable. whatever speed that is.

and i got this full load graph by transfering a file from one comp to the other over the wireless network. so i guess its my full non-internet load. i'll try to get a graph like this from CS:S if i can.

I have not see the same issue as of late maybe it has gotten better for bullet. I know people have been saying that I lag around them at times, but I do not see it. Anything to suggest or have you guys see it?

in console type:

net_graph 3

does your choke or loss ever go above 0?

bullet, i swear man, one of these days i'm gonna find you, rip your wireless network card out, and beat you over the head with it. then i'm gonna run cat5 to your room, strangle you with it, then install an ETHERNET CARD. then i'm gonna steal your girlfriend, too.

wireless is NOT good for gaming.
