Sound Problems

hey hey i have been having some sound problems with

some programs for a while but i never did anything

about em cause i didnt really care but i think its time to take

some action: i dont have audio when i try to watch a video that

isnt in any .wma form...i cant watch flash videos or anything

and in ventrilo i click connect and then it says: Unable to initialize

outbound codec (GSM 6.10 - 44 KHz, 16 bit): Unable to find specified codec.

and when i click setup it says: No mixers are available.

 

 

 

 

now after trying to fix it it is saying all this stuff about

bad DirectSound Driverr ( after i did what is below ) or somthing so i guess i made it worse =(

 

 

 

 

 

Q: sounds like a driver prob, what sound card u using?

 

no idea ever since my last comp burned down i just got this one

from my closet and turned it on, let my cousin (who does all the pc

things that are to complicated for me ) tweak stuff around and then it

was fine...but its strange b/c it happened suddenly and when i tried to fix it

i may have uninstalled ( "change", not remove button is what i clicked)

this thing on the list called SoundMax and since then

it would allow me to hear anything, b4 i did that it was only ventrillo and flash audio

probs..

 

 

 

 

sorry if its a bit long or causes any problems or w/e i copy/paste some things

from a BF2 clan fourm that i asked for help...

Hrm, a new one to me. I know I'd start by

1) determining the make/model of the sound card,

2) downloading new software/drivers (direct from the manufacturer of the computer if it's a major name or from the sound card provider otherwise),

3) uninstalling the current software / drivers,

4) restarting and reinstalling when Windows prompts for drivers.

 

You might be able to determine the make / model by going into the Device Manager and looking under Sound, video and game controllers, but the way to be sure is to open the case, pull the card and read whatever is on it. Write down the model numbers, names, and other ancillary information silk-screened (or stickered) on the board and start hitting Google if it doesn't make sense.

 

You might also run DXDiag.exe from Start | Run, let it run its course and then work from any errors it reports, finally running the sound tests.

 

Undoubtedly someone more experienced in sound troubleshooting will be here shortly. Hang tight.

when it says:

No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

 

where would i find that if i need a soundMAX driver...

SoundMAX is on-board audio. So if you have the disk for the motherboard around you can get them off the CD.

Found out the motherboard model and manufacturer by physically looking at the board or running CPU-Z. Then get the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

we got it fixed in an hour,
