AM2 Build Results

I recently built an AM2 system for my sister and brother in law.

Following Cujo's advice on many of the parts (THANKS Cujo), I was able to put together a pretty decent system for 1500.00 dollars.

This system included a box, and monitor.

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe Socket AM2

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

Antec LifeStyle SONATA II 2.0 ATX

ViewSonic VX922 Black/Silver 19" 2ms LCD Monitor

eVGA 256-P2-N564-AX Geforce 7900GT KO 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

NEC 16X DVD±R DVD Burner

Encore modems ENF656-EHW-INPR 56Kbps Internal Fax Modem

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2000MHz HT Socket AM2

Now, the first problem: OCZ Memory is NOT compatible with ASUS AM2 motherboards at this time. I had to return the memory, and bought the following in it's place which worked great.

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

I built the system stock. No overclocking due to the new owners being computer dumb. Plus, I'm on a time crunch, their old pc died 2 weeks ago, and they are banging down my door.

3DMark05 score was 8785 on gfx, and cpu was 6800 or something close to that... There is a lot of room to overclock this thing... I really want to, but friday it goes up north. 8)

Are you going to play CSS on it before you send it out? I'd like to know what kind of FPS it gets. Also did the 1500 just buy the hardware or did you pick up XP or anyother software too?
