ZesteR February 25, 2007 Share ZesteR Member February 25, 2007 I have a HP Compaq dx2000 Microtower PC that only has 256MB RAM. I can't run Netbeans and other demanding programs on it without bogging it down. I want to upgrade it to at least 512MB Any help? I am uncertain of what to do, but i want to upgrade the RAM. From HP's site: 256 MB PC2-5300 (DDR2 667MHz) DIMM or HP 512 MB PC3200 (DDR 400MHz)
mookie February 25, 2007 Share mookie GC Alumni February 25, 2007 I'm pretty sure DDR and DDR2 go into different slots. Are there really 2 different memory slots on the motherboard?
ZesteR February 25, 2007 Author Share ZesteR Member February 25, 2007 Yea, that's what I thought.. well I'm on the computer right now, and it'll be nice to a break from the sluggish netbeans... I'll check it now.
ZesteR February 25, 2007 Author Share ZesteR Member February 25, 2007 The mobo has a stick of DDR PC 3200 in it now. There is one slot next to it that is open... followed by a gap, and two more slots.. possibly DDR2?
Tracid February 26, 2007 Share Tracid Member February 26, 2007 The two slots you pair them I think. A B C D S S L L O O T T 1 2 You put one ram stick in A, Slot1 and you put the other one in C, Slot2. That's how DDR RAM thing works if I remember correctly. boiler February 26, 2007 Share boiler Member February 26, 2007 I'm very certain that all slots are DDR, not DDR2. I can't imagine HP putting two slot types in their consumer comps. DDR2 memory is longer and has more pins. If the other two slots are the same size as the first two, then they are also DDR. If you want to upgrade, you need to get the same thing as what you already have to run dual channel. DDR2 will NOT fit in DDR slots. have fun
