akaM2 March 22, 2007 Share akaM2 Member March 22, 2007 Ok quick question. My co worker has a dell xps 400 (smaller one) with these specs below C2D E6300 Memory 1 GB DDR2 Video 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache he just wants a little boost for source. imo his cpu is fine, its his vcard which sucks. I know his computer could easily handle a 7900gs (lots of xps's come with them) but could it handle anything more? like a 7950 or 1900xt Im guessing these 7300LE are crap, he hasnt installed source yet. ZeroDamage March 22, 2007 Share ZeroDamage Member March 22, 2007 I am guessing he should be ok but I do not think I would go much higher than the 7900 gs due to the crappy Power Supplies that Dell supplies these things with. Hard to say for sure without knowing his exact specs but my best guess is that he should be ok.
boiler March 22, 2007 Share boiler Member March 22, 2007 (edited) The XPS 410 CAN be equipped with an 8800GTX, however I don't know if the power supply differs and if it is different for the XPS 400, so I wouldn't push it that much.. A 7900gs would be just fine for source and shouldn't be too much of a power hog. My 9400 laptop has a 7900gs (underclocked - thanks dell) and it handles source with almost everything high at 1920x1200. If he wants, it could probably handle a 7950 or x1900, but if he just wants to boost source, he shouldn't need to go that high. 2GB of RAM probably wouldn't hurt either.
