NOFX October 11, 2008 Share NOFX Member October 11, 2008 Ok guys, Im just wanting you to throw some idea's at me. I'm looking to build a small computer. Smaller the better, less power usage the better. The basic requirements are 1) Be able to handle movie playback.. 2) Possibly run 24/7 as my router or just a file server behind my router. I've got a few ideas of my own I will throw out after I get some feedback.

NOFX October 11, 2008 Author Share NOFX Member October 11, 2008 nice find on the atom board. It has a little more power than what I was looking at.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813135095 They both seem to be about the same clock speed, Why don't they give any specs on the atom processor? ZeroDamage October 11, 2008 Share ZeroDamage Member October 11, 2008 The only thing about those Dells is that it is unknown how well the driver support would be in Linux. Anything you buy now has to pretty much have Vista on it which is useless for a server. For around a similar price you could consider a Mini Mac or go even cheaper and get a moderately powered EeePC. The atom is a dual core running at 1.6ghz but only consumes around 6 watts. I wouldn't make a gaming system out of it but at 6 watts it packs enough punch to do anything else i would imagine.
